    These videos remind me of Cruising the Cut, a channel about canal boating in the UK. As well as his normal videos he as some that are an hour or so of silent footage of the boat slowly making it's way along a canal with just mostly the sounds of nature.

    In just a few years time this route will look very different as there will be far less motored traffic. The Green Corridor project will ultimately provide a largely free 14 km (8,7 mi) cycle track between Oirschot town centre and Eindhoven city centre. I'm looking forward to it!

      There already is a basically car free route from Oirschot to eindhoven. You need to fallow the canal to best then go through a small industry area to the other canal and follow the canal thats part of what they call the slow lane to the same road he ended up on. All the canal paths are car free and surrounded by trees and better bike paths. I've biked both routes and my butt definitely didn't like the route he choose.

    Wish you had taken the more scenic route aka the 'canal'-route to Eindhoven. You take the bicycle path to Best along the Wilhelmina Kanaal, then take a right turn when you come across the Beatrix kanaal. And then continue in a straight line on smooth red asphalt to Eindhoven
    All dedicated bike lanes, no roads for cars alongside this route. The majority of bikers, both commuters and recreational, prefer this cycle path over the Green Corridor bc no traffic noise and the superior quality of the track surface.
    The 'Groene Corridor' is in need of upgrading tbh.

      The purpose of this video was to show that this road is being changed from a road into a cycling route. The difference between the beginning of the route and the second half (that was already made car free) is stunning. I show nice recreational routes in other videos.

    I was working near there for a month driving to Son everyday, and I can tell driving bikes over there is the Best. -(I'm not sorry)-
    But for real tho. With those biking roads separated from traffic and pedestrians driving around is simply pleasant.
    And then you have those biking highways as seen from 28:20 onward perfection.
    When I was Driving to Eindhoven one day I finally felt that this infrastructure was made for a biker like me, and not for cars wit a side of bike.

    Are there any specific reasons as to why some parts of the bicycle path are made with asphalt and others with pavers?

    • @johanwittens7712
      @johanwittens7712 3 года назад +1

      Usually it depends on the age of the path and the design of the rest of the road. Older paths were oftem built with pavers, newer ones with asphalt. Take into account bike paths barely age and see little wear and tear especially compared to roads, so some of these paths are often 20-30, sometimes even 40 years old. Although the really old ones are rare. Usually in the Netherlands the oldest are between 10-20 years old.
      And then there's design aesthetic. In the beginning near the old marketplace and town streets, they chose traditional cobble stones to pave the street, probably to maintain the traditional old feel of the streets. And then they often use smoother pavers for the bike lanes to make them match a bit better with the rest of the street. Yes here in Europe we also consider the aesthetic quality of a road, street, or square, and dont just put Ugly asphalt or concrete everywhere, especially in historical centers. 😉

    • @jam6636
      @jam6636 3 года назад

      @@johanwittens7712 thats nice, I guess age and aesthetics had something to do with it, wonder if they also thought of certain pavement solutions to slow down cyclists, I´m sure they have
      Thanks for your answer

    • @johanwittens7712
      @johanwittens7712 3 года назад +1

      @@jam6636 not really. Usually the pavement choices are made to slow down cars, not cyclists. Rough surfaces like the cobblestones slow down cars most, not cyclists. This is to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians. That's why there's the smoother paved strip on the sides of the cobblestone street to allow a smoother ride for cyclists, but still fitting with the aesthetic of the street.
      And yes, cycling is now so universal and popular is the Netherlands, that in complex crossings or at schools they sometimes add slowing measures to slow cyclists now, but usually they're small speed bumps and not pavers, as even in slowing the cyclists down, they want to keep the ride for cyclists as smooth and comfortable as possible as not to discourage cycling.

    • @jam6636
      @jam6636 3 года назад

      @@johanwittens7712 Never been to the Netherlands I just watch this type of videos but it feels to me that pedestrians also lost a lot of infrastructure in order to give space to bicycles (and cars of course). Several videos show pedestrian trying to avoid bicycles from hitting them while crossing a bicycle lane or sidewalks that only allow one person at a time walking on it in a residential area.
      Netherlands infrastructure is extraordinary but aren´t pedestrians losing space to cars and bicycles?

    • @johanwittens7712
      @johanwittens7712 3 года назад +1

      @@jam6636not really. Pedestrians have whole pedestrianised areas to themselves. And yes in some narrow streets pedestrians don't get much room, but they have even less room if cars are allowed.
      And If you'd have to choose, would you rather get hit by a person going 20km/h on a metal machine weighing 10-20kg, or a person going 30-50km/h in a two tonne machine?
      Thing is bikes go much slower, and you have direct eye contact with pedestrians. Usually people see and know what the other is going to do and react accordingly all way ahead of time. You should watch some busy bike intersections in the Netherlands and barely anyone hits one another, or hits pedestrians, because you're so in contact with what's happening around you and even a minor gesture or nod can indicate what your intentions are. You just go with the flow. That's near impossible if you're locked away in your car with reflective windows.
      In rush hour, I use a bike path and have to make a left turn when dozens of bikes are going each way as soon as the light turns green. And never have I hit anyone.
      It's usually tourists, completely oblivious or not used to bikes everywhere that don't know what to do in these situations, that then panic, react unpredictability, and mess up for everyone... But even then consequences are minimal and far less dire than when a car would be involved. Direct visual contact and more equal speeds solves so much...
      ruclips.net/video/zzoEHN3bVqM/видео.html
      And even if bikes take away space from pedestrians, cars take away far, FAR more space. One car usually in average only holding 1 to 2 people takes up the same space as 10-15 bikes! If anything giving more space to bikes gets people out of their cars, onto bikes, and thus frees up space for more bikes and other things like walking, public space, greenery, etc.
      This concept has been proven many times over in many European cities. Even in my city. It used to be gridlocked in the 90s on rush hour. Now because of biking and public transit, there's loads of space and most roads in the center have less traffic than they have ever had since the 1960s. Many Roads and streets were narrowed over the years, more streets were cut, and the already large pedestrian area was expanded. And now there's less traffic than there has been in ages, biking is even more pleasant, and walking is less stressful. And in some new narrower streets, sidewalks were widened giving more space to pedestrians.
      The opposite is actually true. More biking and less car usage leads to more space for other uses.
