Tiffany, I think it is smart that you go into the busy holiday season with a practical plan and allow for real life, mood reading, and all the fun things! Happy Thanksgiving!
I usually only read Christmas books in December 🎄🎄🎄 The past few years I have finished shopping early so that from Dec 1-25 I can devote to Christmas 🎄 books and movies and that way I can truly enjoy the month of December 🎄🎄🎄
I usually don’t read many Christmas books, so I’m looking forward to reading a few seasonal books this month! I love the plan in December to soak up the season because you’ve already finished shopping ❤️
Small Things Like These is so amazing! I read it twice in the same year when it first came out. It’s perfect for this time of year and you can read it in one or two sittings. Enjoy your holiday reading!
Tinsel and Tales is the reading challenge I chose for December because it was very simple and easy to use multiple prompts, plus read the nativity is one of them. My TBR also includes Small Things Like These and it sounds so good!
I am reading only my own Christmas collection of bks. this Dec. I have soooo many. Already started the other day. I have Claire Keegan "Small Things.." It is set in Ireland and seeing as ALL my grandparents came from there, of course I have to read it!😁 Every yr. I read Dickens' A Christmas Carole. Love my anthologies and collections of Christmas stories by the older writers. HAVE to squeeze in Winter Solstice by R. Pilcher, my favorite book by her. I already have a huge tote filled w/ winter books for Jan! Happy Thanksgiving!
I didn't realize Small Things Like These was set in Ireland! That sounds even more lovely! I haven't delved into Rosamund Pilcher yet. I've heard so many wonderful things, but I'm not sure where to start. I'll happily take some suggestions!
Good for you, keeping things simple during the holidays!! I can't remember if I told you this already, but I decided to re-read old favorites all December! I've read more this year than I ever have before, and I'm feeling a little burned out. So I'm going for old comfort reads like Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, 100 Cupboards by ND Wilson and The Hobbit 😍. I already started Norse Mythology and can't wait to read comforting books for the rest of the year.
A lighter TBR is always a good idea in December. I have a lot of books on my pile of possibilities, but they're almost all light and easy reads. Lots of mood reading and Christmas reading will be happening!
Small Things Like These is a real treat. This is the perfect time to read it. My only definites for December are a reread of David Copperfield and a collection of Victorian ghost stories. Other than that, it just depends on what comes in on audio and what I decide to pick off my shelf.
We’re twinsies with our David Copperfield reread! I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed Small Things Like These. We agree pretty often, which makes me think I’ll enjoy it too!
I read David Copperfield for the first time this year and loved it! It's my favorite Dickens I've read so far. Hopefully you enjoy your reread! I've really enjoyed hearing from you and Deea about Kristin Lavransdatter! I put it on my TBR for next year and am looking forward to it.
I’ll have a much more substantial Kristin Lavransdatter update once I’ve finished it, but it’s really beautifully written so far. I hope you enjoy as much as I am!
Small Things Like These and Foster are wonderful. If you can access the audiobooks I’d definitely recommend that as an option too. They’re under two hours and the narration is perfect. Happy low key December reading!
I've got a mixture of things - some devotional reading, some fun books, picture books, and a cd of Charles dickens short stories. Bits and pieces of things. I've had Immanuel, Reflections on the Life of Christ by Michael Card on my shelf for ages, so I thought the time was ripe for that one - at least for the Incarnation section. It looks like each reflection has one of his songs written out, so it might be fun to listen as I go. My friend also gifted me a book his church is doing for Advent based on the book of Ruth. I'm really interested to see Christmas through that lens.
Ooo that Michael Card book sounds amazing! I grew up listening to him, so that sounds so special. Interesting to have advent readings based on Ruth! You'll have to let me know how it is!
@@beautifulminutiae The Michael Card one looks like it would be good to take you from Christmas to Easter following the church calendar which, follows the Scripture. It wouldn't be one reading a day. (There are 13 reflections under the Incarnation, for example.) The three sections are the Incarnation. the Ministry, and the Passion. And I am so curious about the Ruth one. I will let you know.
Such a good TBR! My December tbr is Laurus, The Mysteries of Udolpho, and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Also reading Even After Everything which is beautifully written.
@ I’m encouraged to hear that! It’s been slow going but I’m still early on in the book. Her father just passed and she’s moved in with her atrocious aunt.
Love this list of books. We read A Christmas Carol last December for school with the kids. I also read David Copperfield last year. Cannot wait till you finish KL, so I can see your reaction. My end of year books are to finish Divine Comedy, read the girl on the train, finish the nutcracker with the kids, read all the colors of the dark, and at least try to finish The Idiot.
@ it is super intimidating. There is this thing with I think Baylor University called 100 days of dante. It’s on RUclips. But if you sign up they send you one video a day for free, and they go over 1 canto each day. It’s cool, and super helpful. This book definitely is the most challenging of the books I have read. I think it’s, because it’s poetry. Poetry I like, but it is very hard for me to understand long form poetry.
❤🎄📚❤️ I own The Wreath by Sigrid Undset, but I would like to get the other two before I start. I hope you enjoy all your Christmas reads. Edit: Small Things Like These is very good!
I’d love to hear what you think of Kristin Lavransdatter whenever you start it! I’m really enjoying it! I’m super excited to read Small Things Like These, so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it!
@beautifulminutiae hahaha I am reading it bc you are reading it!! I have been wanting to read more of him since Bleak House and I couldn't resist the opportunity to read with my favorite Dickens superfan 😘
I just read Small Things Like These and I thought it was beautiful. I loved it! (If you need to borrow it, I can bring it to co-op). I’m planning on reading Foster in December. Cannot wait to read Wind and Truth and finish out this year of Sanderson! 😂 I need a break! I’m planning on reading A Christmas Carol with Savannah Grace!
I would love to borrow Small Things Like These! I have a hold on Libby, but I don’t know if it’ll come in on time. Glad I’m not the only one ready for a Sanderson break this year 😂 I’m tackling Hobb next year! I love that you’ll be reading A Christmas Carol with us!
David Copperfield!!! Love that book!
Me too! I’m really looking forward to rereading it!
Tiffany, I think it is smart that you go into the busy holiday season with a practical plan and allow for real life, mood reading, and all the fun things! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks Essie! I need a break in December, for sure 😂

Twice in one year is quite high praise! I'm really looking forward to it!

The Tinsel and Tales readathon looks so fun! So many people are reading Small Things Like These this month. Sounds like the perfect month for it!

Mood reading and Christmas reading is PERFECT for December! I hope you have lots of cozy, happy reads ❤️

Small tbrs in December is a GREAT idea
My thoughts exactly 😂 December is always busy and unpredictable for me!
🎉🎉🎉
🤗❤️

That’s great to hear! My friend listened to Foster on audio and enjoyed it, but I hadnt heard anything about the other one on audio.
@ I was lucky my library has both so I was able to do both ♥️
Can’t wait to start David Copperfield with you 🎉❤
Curious to see how you enjoy/feel about Stu’s book.
I'll definitely let you know what I think!
I would start with Winter Solstice, for A Pilcher first read. EXCELLENT!! First read A year ago, will read again this yr. (Dec/ Jan.).
Thank you! It sounds wonderfully seasonal!

My December tbr is Laurus, The Mysteries of Udolpho, and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Also reading Even After Everything which is beautifully written.
I love Mysteries of Udolpho! It takes a while for the plot to pick up, but the travel writing at the beginning is stunningly gorgeous!
@ I’m encouraged to hear that! It’s been slow going but I’m still early on in the book. Her father just passed and she’s moved in with her atrocious aunt.
@Sarahac8 it’ll start picking up soon, if I remember correctly!

The Divine Comedy is one I want to read, but intimidates me BIG TIME! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that!

I totally had that Clare Keegan book on my December TBR, but I was # 90+ on the hold list sooooo yeah, next year I guess!
90???? Holy cow!
Your hair is so cuuute! ❤❤❤ I just started David Copperfield last night 😄
Aw thank you! How did I not realize you were reading David Copperfield too??
@beautifulminutiae hahaha I am reading it bc you are reading it!! I have been wanting to read more of him since Bleak House and I couldn't resist the opportunity to read with my favorite Dickens superfan 😘
I am reading some Agatha Christie in the beginning of December.
That sounds perfect!
I just read Small Things Like These and I thought it was beautiful. I loved it! (If you need to borrow it, I can bring it to co-op). I’m planning on reading Foster in December.
Cannot wait to read Wind and Truth and finish out this year of Sanderson! 😂 I need a break!

I love that you’ll be reading A Christmas Carol with us!
I liked Small Things, but I Loved Foster!
I am very curious what you will think about Stuart Torton book 📖😉
I also liked 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle very much
Yes, I liked 7.5 Deaths too! But knowing this one is totally different is helpful for my expectations going in!
My Mum read 'Small Things Like These' and she went to see the film but she said that Cillian Murphy wasn't right for it or played it too submissively.
Oh, that’s interesting! I hadn’t heard anyone talk about the movie yet.
I think I’m going to be heartbroken & wrung out like a dishrag by the time we reach the end of KL! 🫨😖😭
😢🫂
You’re probably right about that … I hope it’ll end redemptively, but I kind of doubt it.
I just wanna say I cried like a baby at the end, but it was a beautiful ending. ❤
