You have got to tell me where i can get my hands on those unscrewable bottom bottles you got there! Also, excellent vid, might try the Tuliyollal punch this summer.
greg's mixology knowledge is so cool to watch in action. he clocked the fucking mezcal without Square explicitly telling him MEZCAL IS A HUGE REGIONAL DRINK IN-GAME IN TULIYOLLAL and i dont just mean "its mesoamerican themed they use mezcal" but he spotted the JUG
I love that Greg never went out of his way to be a video game channel, he just casually mentioned gaming a few times and everyone loved it so much the whole game industry was like, "this motherfucker needs to make us a cocktail."
This isn't the first time Greg's done drinks for Final Fantasy. They sponsored another vid previously. Also, Greg used to stream games on Twitch, so it's quite a bit more than, "casually mentions games a few times".
To be fair, I remember back in the day when The Drunken Moogle and Nimhain (the League of Legends guy) were posting cocktails and every goddamn website from Kotaku to Cheezburger were signal boosting them. Gaming and drinking has always had an audience, it's just not often that the drinks are balanced or true to form in the way that a lot of Greg's are. Genuinely wish we saw more of this stuff taken seriously.
This might be the most targeted an advertisement has ever been precisely for me. I'm a fan of the show, have 2000 hours in XIV, literally have dawntrail open rn and sipping on a cocktail. Good job algorithm gods.
Yeah, I just closed the game for the night myself when I saw this was uploaded. And I might have a few more hours in. Like... Almost 7000... I should start reconsidering my priorities.
yeah same here, this makes me want to make some of these while i'm working my way through the new areas, with early access this has hit me right as im hitting these areas so it fits well
You fucking got Mezal from the icon of the tavern in that brief shot? I'm standing in front of the tavern in the game and I didn't even clock that. You brilliant bastard.
Greg encounter a FATE while leveling his Mixologist crafting class. "The Bar Fly's Bar Fly" don't worry Greg, you'll need those bicolor gemstones for crafting materials.
Came here from the FFXIV Dawntrail promotional website where they're advertising how to make your own cocktail in Tural and it links here! I think I like this kind of sponsered content because its not just saying 'go play the game' its also going the extra mile for game immersion for existing players who don't need to be convinced to play it, also seeking the expertise of a talented RUclipsr and promoting their channel too! Seems like a win-win
This is the kind of brand integration I've long thought would be perfect. I hope more game developers reach out to you to design custom cocktails! Way cooler, IMO, than the various fantasy drinks you've "made" in the past with fantasy, magical ingredients.
Never played FFXIV but i have the cookbook and its genuinely one of my daily drivers in the kitchen. It oozes so much personality and i love that all the recipes have in game counterparts, unlike alot of media cookbooks where it feels like they just slapped the license on it and called it a day.
I've been waiting for this! So fun fact, FFXIV has a robust RP community and "venue" scene including a lot of places with bars. As a serial bar goer in game, I love looking through their menus because these people come up with some truly... interesting drinks. Would love ot see Greg take on a few of these drinks and see if he can't fix them or improve them!
There's actually a Mezcal based beverage on the promotional site, which is similar to the first drink you made (Pineapple and all), but used Mezcal as the alcohol (they also recommended Coconut water for a non-alc replacement)
Really enjoy this kind of sponsored content Greg, it feels like a regular and high quality themed episode plus i know (hope) you're getting a nice check on the other end.
Let's fucking gooooo. Crafting a bunch of mezcal in game had me revisiting the bottle I bought on a whim, but I still can't find a drink that makes the band-aid taste palatable. Hoping your recipes are fire. Edit: the combat sound effects had me tabbing back to the game thinking I actually aggro'd something💀
From Critical Role to Cyberpunk to FFXIV this one random cocktail channel has somehow hit on most of my nerdy interests. Just need a Warhammer 40k drinks video next.
When I got to the questline where you have to get a 3-year-aged jug of mezcal for a guy, my immediate thought was, "Dang, wouldn't it be neat if Greg did some recipes off this?" LO AND BEHOLD someone at SE apparently had the same idea lol It's also interesting how the questline for Cooking/Alchemy involves helping mix drinks for a local juice shop in Tuyilollal, though that's more Booster Juice than bar mixing🤣
Anyone making the Pictomancer's Palette: Greg used Wray and Nephew overpoof rum, which is an unaged Jamaican. If you used a Demerara OP, (Hamilton, Lemon Hart) you're going to change the color and flavor a good bit. I'm not a Final Fantasy fan, but I'd happily try all of those.
Excellent episode! Been playing early access with my wife and friends and having a blast. There's a quest in one zone where you're trying to barter your way up to a bottle of aged Mezcal, and part of the chain involves picking maté.
Gotta hook up with Garrett from the Grinding Gear channel here on RUclips for these FF14 collabs. He's also big into cocktails and can give so many details to the game that a press kit won't cover. Great episode!
Loving the gaming themed episodes! Here goes my weekly plea…if you’re searching for new episode content, have you considered an episode on infusions/tinctures? You have done your own sour green apple, bathtub gin, and spiced rum before…how about expanding on these concepts to further customize a person’s home bar? Peach cobbler infused bourbon, home made falernum, home made amaretto etc
YEAH! I've actually come up with a few variations on classic cocktails myself that are inspired by Dawntrail! A slight twist on the spicy Margarita and a more significant change to a Mr Bali Hai. The Dawnservant 2 oz Tequila 1 oz Ancho Reyes 1 oz Lime juice 1/2 oz orange liquer 1/4 oz agave nectar 1/4 oz Vecchio Amaro del Capo Red Hot Edition as many pieces of Jalapeno as you think you can stand! Mr Tobli-Hai 1 1/2 oz Mezcal 1 oz Patraxan (a spanish liquer made with anisette, sloe berries and coffee beans) 3/4 oz Kaluha 1 1/2 oz Pineapple juice 1 oz Lemon juice 1/3 oz Grenadine I know some people have reacted poorly to Dawntrail, but I think most of them are people who blitzed through it all too fast, or people unwilling to give characters and plotlines time to develop before casting judgement. I for one have really enjoyed the journey, and watching the new characters mature!
I am so TICKLED that you've done this! I've been playing this game for years, and I love seeing people make stuff for it! 1) Your pronunciations are great! Especially Urianger's name XD 2) The fact that you picked out mezcal and mate tea! There's a mate tea farm you can visit on a map that is VERY based on the Andes, AND a mezcal distillery on the same map! 3) The in-game sounds while you're fighting the fly is PERFECT!
Haha no way! I actually just picked up a job working as a part-time bartender, and one of the first drinks I brought to my boss was a Pisco Sour riff using sencha infused Pisco and acid-adjusted Muscat grape juice! Cool to see you also running with the same tea-infused Pisco idea; great video as always! :-D (P.S. -- A couple other botanicals I messed around with when using the Puro Quebrado from Barsol were rosemary and meadowsweet, but I'm pretty sure lotus seed would also be killer!)
Ayy! What an awesome crossover! The Tuliyollal Punch sounds pretty tasty even with the oddity of Cachaça. But hard to beat wanting to try it with that reaction. That Nopalitender Bender seems like one where it'll sneak up on ya pretty good. For the Viper's Tea that's pretty cool to work in the maté. They actually work in maté leaves in one of main quest. With the Pictomancer's Palette and the previous drink make me want to experiment with different tea/flower infusions now. Nice job with all of the drinks and the vibe of the video! Really went beyond with the effects and sounds on this one with how much fun was being had during the filming! I'm 100% for getting these creations into the game for a fun nod.
I think this is the most targetted video focused on my interests you've made since your D&D videos. Its amazingly well made too! So glad square reached out to make this, I want to drink all of these
Pictomancer's Palette looked really good!! And I want to try the pineapple one too!! This entire episode was great, I'm glad Square Enix decided to collaborate with this channel!
I have only been here a couple of times, as I rarely drink fancier stuff than tap water or coffee, BUT! Holy cow did you do amazingly with this sponsor! This video made me want to try the drinks AND the new classes too! To think it might be a bartender (tavern-keep?) that gets me in the mood to buy the new exspansion! 😅 Thanks for the good time, and give your editor an applause (or a raise) for the pinging agro and fitting level-up audio clips. 10/10, will watch again for the entertainment! If you edit your own stuff, you deserve to drink all the drinks and should be thoroughly proud of how well you do sponsors!
The Nopalitender Bender came out fantastic. I made a few modifications based on availability. I had no orange liqueor but I did have chili liquor. So I swapped around the bitters and the liquor. Using the Ancho Reyes and then using orange cream bitters. I did a little more (4 dashes) and backed off on the mezcal slightly (1.75) cause the mezcal I have is insanely smokey. I also dropped the prickly pear to .75 and added .25 of agave along with a few sprinkles of rock salt. I didn't have any lime wheels but I did have some butterfly peaflower iceballs from another project so I used that as a garnish and used the cocktail smoker with a blend of hickory and pear wood to give it a little visual smoke to match the flavor. The ending result was very much what you described, that upfront blend of prickly pear and lime giving way to a meaty, spicy and salty smoked finish with lingering fruit notes. Awesome. The acidity did eventually turn the iceball purple but it took a good 15 mins. looked cool as heck though.
omg, you even dragged mate in here, we're really getting the s. american drink allstars in here. loved the video! and i'm so excited to be able to play dawntrail- though i won't be able to for a few more days :')
This is great because the Final Fantasy 14 cookbook produced my current favorite drink, and now you're giving me more amazing Final Fantasy mixed drinks to try!
I did a riff on the Nopalitender Bender with some cayenne cherry syrup I had and a dash of chocolate bitters and peychaudes bitters and it was so damn good.
I've been making a tropical drink everyday in honor of Dawntrail coming out. This video just gave me more ideas! Thanks Greg! Really appreciate the crossover!
Incredibly fun video! Everyone already mentioned but the creativity and pinpoint with what profiles go where was so spot on. You can really feel the game and its culture in every drink! Especially the bender and the picto pallette!
Man what an absolutely fantastic episode. Really hoping to see more like this. Really fun drink ideas, I'm an avid FFXIV player and a long-time watcher of the show and just had a blast with this one. Great job as always man.
I’ve been playing a ton of Dawntrail, and now I want to make all these drinks! Also loved the edits of the attack noises when going at the fly. Perfect touch. Kudos to the editor.
The funniest thing about Urianger's pineapple drink is that it's canonically shown that that man can barely tolerate a weak-to-moderate ale. If he had Greg's drink, they'd have to scrape him off the floor with a shovel before he got halfway through.
Funny enough I think the Phoenix Down drink you made for your old FF: Dissidia Opera Omnia (which is now defunct) sponsorship would also fit in with this. Hell, I drank one of those when I was playing through Endwalker, the previous expansion. Also fun fact: my mom loved the drink too.
The slo mo fumbling had me laughing so hard. Props to the fly for comedic relief and post for game-accurate sound effects. I have the game, now I just need to make the drinks to enjoy while play! Great stuff as always, Greg!
As many others have said, Greg knocked it out of the park with this. Been playing Dawntrail since the pre-release access opened and am super tempted to make one or two of these to sip on this Thursday while I'm off work.
Now this is one I'm excited for. I love the drinks for the new classes! Also, watching this while playing the game, I got worried something aggro'd onto me 😅
My goodness, not only do these all look fantastic to drink and look appropriate, but you’ve introduced me to so many things I’d never thought of as ingredients, like herbal matte and butterfly pea blossom. I need to do *much* more research. Thanks again for another fantastic episode!
These all look awsome! Love that you're getting a cheque for these. Definitely going to make that first one (but in a glass) right now since I gave all the ingredients for it.
This is fun! I've been using FFXIV for the inspiration of some of my cocktails, my current favorite is one I made for a big fight for the last expansion, Rubicante
Hard to believe I'm subscribed to this channel and play FFXIV and yet somehow missed this until now. Probably because I was neck deep in the MSQ. Absolutely love the Pictomancer's Pallete. A work of art in a glass and I wasn't expecting the colors to change so much when you mixed it further.
As a 14 fan who finished Dawntrail over early access, gotta say this is great stuff, Greg. A lot of sponsored content like this doesn't feel super respectful to the source material, but the fact that you grabbed all the stuff just from the vibes of the pre-release material you got sent shows you really put some effort in on this one. Mezcal and Mate both show up in the game and so seeing them used here is really cool! FF14 has a cookbook with some cocktails from the in game cooking job in it, it'd be cool to see another episode on those.
Also, seriously, kudos! The expansion is heavy based on Central and South America, so you calling for cachaça, guessing correctly on the mezcal, and using yerba mate were all spot on! I don't know if you were given some specifics for recipes or not, but this was really cool, regardless!
This was a really fun episode, especially since all the drinks are different from the ones shown on the turalism website they made to promote dawntrail
Been a fan of your channel for awhile and XIV for even longer, thanks for doing this! It's a long road to Tuliyollal but a hell of a story and a great game to play through with your partner and/or friends!
I don't know about the game but damn the drinks have me salivating already. Good stuff. Also that damn fly (and your editing) delivered more quality entertainment than it had any business doing. The channel has a new nemesis.

I was so excited to see Mezcal in Dawntrail during the early game and excited to see some drinks inspired from a channel I enjoy.
My roommate is a huge FF player and said "I bet he uses a lot of Mezcal" spot on
even got the yerba mate in there
He's like a goddamn mixology wizard
I love that Greg never went out of his way to be a video game channel, he just casually mentioned gaming a few times and everyone loved it so much the whole game industry was like, "this motherfucker needs to make us a cocktail."
Betcha someone on the DT media tour suggested it to them. Whoever it was that thought of it, we're all grateful! Now I need a pineapple.

I’ve been playing a ton of Dawntrail, and now I want to make all these drinks!
Also loved the edits of the attack noises when going at the fly. Perfect touch. Kudos to the editor.
Longtime FFXIV player, and longtime fan of the channel, excited to watch this Greg!
I love how this is a collaboration of two of some of my favorite things. I didn’t know I needed this in my life
all these drinks are super unique and fun to watch being made and enjoyed! great video!
Hell yeah dude this was awesome to watch. Love the picto cocktail, it’s as colorful as I was hoping it’d be!
The funniest thing about Urianger's pineapple drink is that it's canonically shown that that man can barely tolerate a weak-to-moderate ale. If he had Greg's drink, they'd have to scrape him off the floor with a shovel before he got halfway through.
Also! Urianger is one of the party's healers, so being a riff on a Painkiller is really apt
11:48 have the game open in another monitor and the sound jumpscared the hell out of me, good work lmao
Literally sitting here playing FF14 and every time that fly shows up and the sound effects play I get a mini-heart attack
I just discovered this channel a few weeks ago when learning about home bartending, and now I see you repping XIV. That's amazing. Earned a subscribe!
Last thing I was expecting your next vid to be! Sponsors be wild I guess.
This is actually incredible. I'm happy you were lucky enough to do this.
The Grinding Gear boys are gonna love this.
Need to see more of these game/film collaborations I love it
Loved this Greg! These long-form, videos with workshopped recipes (workshopped on or off camera!) are my favorite! Thanks again!!
As someone currently playing Dawntrail, I never expected to see SE Sponsor you! Love the drink ideas
I've been playing FFXIV for many years, and watching this channel for many years. Talk about an unexpected and exciting crossover! Love the video! 😁
This is so great... I've been in early access for a week now, and these are so much fun to see. Viper is SUPER FUN by the way.
This was a really fun episode! All the drinks looked fantastic, I'm partial to the last one as someone who just likes pretty colours and gradients lol
Really killed it with these drinks!! Hope other fun sponsors come knocking; I've never been interested in ffxiv but this video turned me around on it
You were right about the mezcal. One of the town's is well know for their mezcal
The editing detail with the aggro noise for the fly is probably the funniest fucking thing. The drinks look great ❤
This is the best crossover. It's so damn awesome to see this. Congrats Greg
Longtime fan of the channel and been playing this game since 2014, thanks for taking them up on it banger video
Greg AND Dawntrail. Holy crap a dream come true.
goddamn
i didn't know i needed this in my life. as a big XIV fan and a quasi-hardcore HTD fan this mashup was unexpected but very much appreciated
Wow, the color the butterfly pea blossom brings is beautiful
As a 14 fan who finished Dawntrail over early access, gotta say this is great stuff, Greg. A lot of sponsored content like this doesn't feel super respectful to the source material, but the fact that you grabbed all the stuff just from the vibes of the pre-release material you got sent shows you really put some effort in on this one. Mezcal and Mate both show up in the game and so seeing them used here is really cool! FF14 has a cookbook with some cocktails from the in game cooking job in it, it'd be cool to see another episode on those.
This is the greatest collab of all time for me
Yooo, this is awesome. I've been playing the early access for the expansion all weekend. Cool to see you getting sponsored for this episode!
Also, seriously, kudos! The expansion is heavy based on Central and South America, so you calling for cachaça, guessing correctly on the mezcal, and using yerba mate were all spot on! I don't know if you were given some specifics for recipes or not, but this was really cool, regardless!
one of my favorite youtubers collabing with the developers of one one of my favorite games. Congrats, Greg. You deserve this, dude.
Loved the video!
Can’t wait to make and try some of these drinks myself while playing Dawntrail!
I don't know about the game but damn the drinks have me salivating already. Good stuff. Also that damn fly (and your editing) delivered more quality entertainment than it had any business doing. The channel has a new nemesis.
Blindsided and enjoying every ounce of this GOOD JOB....
Always good to see drinks that are actually enjoyable.
genuinely so happy to see this! i just got done watching the Ginger beer video, i was surprised to see a new video just uploaded!
I like how he’s just become the guy video game company’s go to for drinks.
