I was thinking that Sam had a pistol pointed at Joel, and Joel showed Ellie how to hold a pistol so someone can't snatch it out of your hand... and Sam is doing the "shhhh" with one hand. Someone is probably going to get their gun snatched away 😲lol
Another brilliant episode! Great reaction as usual Wave Crew! Definitely seeing some parallel between this show & Mando, with Joel teaching Ellie how to hold a gun (much like Dinn & Grogu's Steel Ball scene) - looking forward to your Episode 5 reaction (out early) 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Honestly Bella Ramsey is perfect. Yeah shes a bit different to Game Ellie but in a good way, she brings new things to the table. Also she really seems to have fun with the role!
If I just wanted a carbon copy I'd play the game again. Pedro and Bella in the show somehow feel so fresh and different while still completely embodying these characters

@@system0fadowner251 Shit your right I heard she was way younger my bad but my point still stands she looks like way too young to play Ellie in pt 2 imo
@@Jakeyisdead she does look pretty young but it's probably gonna be a little while before they start shooting part two, as it's only been announced a couple days ago. One thing that kinda astounds me is how many reactors assume Ellie has no idea how to handle a gun. I mean, this episode's opening was obvious enough and people still didn't get it (What kid who doesn't know how to use a gun unloads it and removes the bullet in the chamber before pulling the trigger to test it?), but I would imagine the fact that she went to a military school in an apocalypse would make it a logical conclusion xD
Man people still assume Joel was the one army one, not Tommy, even after Joel says Tommy went in. Idk if it's just them somehow not picking up those details??? But???

*Joel* stayed up all night, drove for hours, fought _"people,"_ & climbed 33 flights of stairs. Take it from another 56yr old, the man's gonna be a bit punchy come bed time.🥴 🤭
Perry, Kathleen's right hand man, is played by Jeffrey Pierce aka Tommy from the game! How cool is that?! Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (Joel and Ellie from the game) also have roles in the series so it'll be exciting to spot them too in future episodes!
My only comment is, when it comes to the rifle Joel stashed, it being an M4A1 (in the game it was a M16A4), it uses 5.56x45mm ammo, and rifles chambered in that are also able to use the civilian .223 Remington (which the 5.56 NATO) is based on. They are both two of the most common calibers in the United States. Joel has a better chance of finding that ammunition than almost any other rifle cartridge besides a 30.06 that his bolt action uses while scavenging. Also the mags they use (STANAG) are practically universal to that weapon system. There is a huge chance any other survivors he comes across that he has to fight or trade with will have that caliber. Also the fact that he stashes it right before going to see Bill who would likely have a huge stockpile of that caliber kind of twisted me up. There’s a lot I would dump in that situation to bare minimum, but my AR15 is not one. Any abandoned military checkpoint or desolate FEDRA zone would likely have at least some of that ammunition to be found.
Was surprised to see this episode take place in my neck of the woods, instead of Pittsburgh where it takes place in the game. Last time I recall it being the setting on screen for a major production was Looper. Despite technically being a major city, Kansas City is the red-headed stepchild of large cities in America, and almost always looked over.
People criticizing Joel dropping his AR in the locker or not picking more. It seems you have no understanding of the world and reality of it and are still in the game where every protagonist is a boderline super hero. I found it funny and ironic that show Joel has hearing problem but in game we use hearing to sense people behind the walls. Joel is a 56 year old man going on cross country trip on foot with pretty much beef jerky and maybe bread. He is conserving his energy by not carrying the big piece of metal. I like that the creators are thinking of Joel as a human and not a superman that game protagonists tend to be. We don't know how many bullets were there in the magazine anyway, maybe it wasn't even full in the first place (FEDRA has been known to be more of a facade), plus he used a lot of them on the clickers already, so could have couple of bullets left, I actually liked that he saved it rather than saying, "out of ammo" before tossing it. He had no idea if he will get the truck at that point, which he did fill with enough weapons that Kathleen's people say they were "loaded" and thought they are "mercenaries"
I got sucker punched in a bar fight and it completely shattered my ear and blew my ear drum and I lost my hearing in that ear but the hearing in my other ear got really sensitive to compensate so I can hear a lot of things that others don’t seem to. I can hear someone pulling into the drive way if I’m in my den and I’m up the stairs and to my door before the bell rings and the family is like what are you doing but if I’m in a room with someone and they are sitting on my bad ear side and their voices are in the low range, it’s difficult to hear the person as good as if they were on the other side of me, it’s weird. This episode was a slow burn, they are building this story and these characters and I’m loving it. I actually know this story from watching Aaron play the game on RUclips so I know what’s going to happen but it’s still fun watching it play out live. Mushrooms grow best in moist dark places, what would be more moist and dark than a hole in the ground, we’ve seen what’s in that hole on screen in clips already and it’s percolating in that hole 😳

Yes! And he was drinking coffee the next day driving because he didn't sleep at all. Might have contributed to him not waking when Henry and Sam came in, in addition to sleeping on his good ear. Must have been extra tired and was in deeper sleep. Add: Also, it just occurred to me... the lack of sleep might also have contributed to him not hearing Bryan...
I saw someone else say he stood guard bc he promised she’d be fine, but he remembered the same promise to Sarah that he couldn’t keep. Didn’t want history to repeat :(
I was actually really annoyed by that, because there was less of a chance they'd be attacked out in the woods in the middle of nowhere, he should've at least tried to sleep. And driving for a day and a night with no sleep is very dangerous. One interesting detail about Joel waking up while laying on his wrong ear, is that it also means that he turned to face Ellie while they were sleeping. Could be a subtle way of showing how he's getting closer to Ellie but how this is also causing him to get a bit softer and to slip up like this.
exactly what I got out from it, all the time he would sleep on his right side so he could hear properly but in doing so he would also face away from Ellie which I guess was a plus for him but the moment he turns to her meaning he is beginning to warm up to her and be vulnerable with her… shit goes SIDEWAYS
I love Ellie's giggle when Joel shakes the gun in her hand :') I'd hoped Henry and Sam were gonna show up earlier in this episode, but now I'm looking forward to the next one. "Humanise the villains", funny that. Because you could say Joel himself is not that great of a guy. Tess said it herself "We're not great people" & "This is your chance. You get her there, you keep her alive and you set everything right. All the shit we did." And ya'll know the game.
Ellie is so eager to learn more things and she definitelly wants to connect with Joel more than he with her at this point. I tihnk she was really happy that she made him kind of proud. Or laugh later.
I am hoping, and praying, that the birthday episode plays out how it did in the game. Just 30 minutes straight of Ellie annoying the shit out of Joel in the most wholesome way possible.
@@iceman10129ml yes 🥹 honestly i’m hoping they show it all in chronological order instead of the same way the 2nd game progressed. i love this universe so much but the part 2 is so depressing that i hope we get time to see the events in between before… you know… abby and her party meet joel….
Lots of people don’t seem to understand that part. They all think he was putting on a show but he wasn’t he was scared he was just a kid that was probably told by Cathleen too go fight. Once he was helpless he do what anyone would and beg for his life. I think everyone wants the hunters to be emotionless but in real life like Joel and Ellie everyone’s fighting for there own life’s including innocent young kids. Crying for your mom is something soldiers did in the battlefield when they knew they were about too die.
@@ryans413 I think that’s the greatness of how that was done though. 5 minutes prior we saw them faking injury. I thought from the first part he was faking and then by the end there’s that realization. Brilliant flip in the matter of a minute

I like some of the nuanced performances. Like, Ramsey could have simply handed the cassette to Pascal saying, "look what I found?!" but she punches him in the arm doing so. So real.
I feel like alot of this was missing for me on the episode that flashed back to ellie and riley in the mall. It really felt like a lot of acting. Not like they were real people. Does that make sense?

This episode made me so happy as someone who played the game. The magazine scene, ellie saving Joel, him teaching her about the gun and Joel can't stop laughing from Ellie's jokes. Basically, this show just keeps getting better and better. I see Emmys in its future.
Did Rick not want to continue after Episode 1? I thought he was going to be the most interested in this show due to the fact he said the story would work better for TV than it did in the game.
It's interesting that Joel chose to kill that man with a knife because most movies and shows you would most likely see them shoot them right? But Joel's a survivor and doesn't waste the bullet. Realism. 🙃

I'm so excited/worried about it. This hunter's stuff worries me. Especially with them seemingly completely changing the sam and henry story line. Hopefully the main parts still end up being there.
@@FullMetalB It makes sense to do it. In the game Henry and Sam just show up and their beef with the hunters is never explained, it just sort of happens. The show expands on that well while also providing more humanity to the hunters so nothing is just black and white.
I dont get the 'bloodlust' angle from Ellie, I feel like the scene with her and the infected she felt more resentful & angry at the infection because of what happened with Riley. Here she had to shoot a person so she was much more hesitant.
So we have Tommy's voice actor Jeffrey Pierce playing future Calvin and Joel is obviously Eric with his deafness in one ear so now all we need is a stand in for Aaron.
The opening scene of the episode was VERY reminiscent of the "You talking to me?" scene from Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. In The Last of Us: Left Behind, if you wear the triple phoenix mask (I believe it's this one) in the Halloween store and press square (might have to do it more than once), Ellie will actually say this exact line lol. The other action she performs if you press square is that she dances a bit. Canonically, Ellie from the games has seen Taxi Driver lol
Most people forget that Joel hadn't slept the night before. Our body takes what it needs. Even if Joel would have slept on the correct side - he must have been exhausted. 33 to 45 floors of stair climbing...
As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas. But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like an expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural. And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show as Perry the right hand man of Kathleen.👏🏽👏🏽
Aaron saying "Is she going to pull out the gun" at 5:33 when Ellie says "This is your fault then to Joel" was hilarious, that was straight out of left field
Forgot to mention it last week but since you liked frank's actor Murray Bartlett, I vote for you to watch the white lotus whenever you have a spot open.
Kathleen has a child? Either I didn't catch that, or you interpreted something wrong. The way I understood it, she HAD a brother, and Henry is the one who gave him away to FEDRA for whatever. I don't think that she was the mom of that guy who begged.
We have no idea how much manpower and resources it will take to deal with that hole. Finish the first problem you know then return to the unknown problem.
Everything that Joel got from Bill's stash was a luxury. He took that stuff for Ellie more than for himself. He was trying to make the journey as comfortable and smooth as possible. He knew he didn't need all that, he can make it through with much less, but he already was -even if a bit reluctant- in father mode.
I know Rick isn’t the hugest fan of the original video game (which is fine since we all have different preferences/opinions), but it just had to be on one of the better live-action video game adaptation so far that Rick isn’t tuning to on this channel. He might still be watching it on his own, which is fine too.
Doing a lil research for the upcoming ep, Sam will be deaf as the actor playing him, Keivonn Woodard, is deaf. Will be interesting how this changes their dynamic from the game too. I'm not ready for their appearance in the show D':
Loved getting to see post-Apocalyptic "Kansas City!" Also, very excited for Henry and Sam, and to see Keivonn Montreal Woodard as Sam with the Deaf representation!
i hope to see in future episodes the dangers of traversing threw the wilderness, because if this is realistic the amount of feral animals there would be, imagine every cat and dog breeding, the bears, wolfs and herbivores without humans would be flourishing in this situation

I love Ellie's giggle when Joel shakes the gun in her hand :')
I'd hoped Henry and Sam were gonna show up earlier in this episode, but now I'm looking forward to the next one.
Remember next episode this Friday not Sunday

I need a Joel and Ellie spinoff where they tell jokes for an entire season! Pedro and Bella are so super synergic
It runs in you jeans 😂😂😂😂
I’m still laughing every time I think of it 😂
nah they have no energy off screen, its just acting kid.
so super synergic does not roll off the tongue lol
The beefcake magazine was hilarious!
When Ellie asked why the pages were stuck together, Joel felt like he had an out of body experience. Lol!!
It was so hilarious but you also never see girls reaction to porn in shows so it was interesting just for being different .
Because he knew who was beating off, or because someone had beat off in it 🤣
@@xl081 O RLY?!
My jaw had dropped at that part, and then I laughed so hard when she said she was fucking with him lol
That actor that was begging for his life was amazing, like I legit teared up at him begging and asking for his mom.
Reminiscent of the Bayonet scene in Saving Private Ryan.
Yeah, I agree, that part had me tense for almost the rest of the episode
@@shavedwookie699 Reminiscent of Joel's own story of Tommy being swept up into the Iraq War too. You don't know what you're getting into.

“Future Calvin” is Tommy’s voice actor from the game. Super cool that they brought him in.
Everytime he talked in the show it confused my brain lol
@@FullMetalB hahahaha yes man I can't help but hear Tommy

The calling for his mom got to me.
Did Rick not want to continue after Episode 1?
I thought he was going to be the most interested in this show due to the fact he said the story would work better for TV than it did in the game.
I was wondering the same thing. He would’ve brought an interesting angle to the post-episode discussions.
He’s been more selective with reactions so I guessed it didn’t catch his eye🤷♀️
Weird because he says he has a 4 episode rule.

It's interesting that Joel chose to kill that man with a knife because most movies and shows you would most likely see them shoot them right? But Joel's a survivor and doesn't waste the bullet. Realism. 🙃
16:12 That’s because it’s Tommy’s actor from the game, Jeffrey Pierce. That’s why he’s so cool.
Edit: oh ok you do mention it at 43:30

Everyone talked about Ep 3 last week, the next ep, ep 5, is the episode critics and early viewers really talked about, so I can't wait to see it.
I'm so excited/worried about it. This hunter's stuff worries me. Especially with them seemingly completely changing the sam and henry story line. Hopefully the main parts still end up being there.
@@FullMetalB I've personally enjoyed the changes they've made. It makes it so that the show isn't just a carbon copy of the game.
@@mrknowhere6457 I have too! This episode is the first one where the expanded story parts just didn't do it for me.
Yeah, im guessing that hole is the kne ehere the bloater in the trailer was climbing out of too. So we will probably see the bloater in ep5.
@@FullMetalB It makes sense to do it. In the game Henry and Sam just show up and their beef with the hunters is never explained, it just sort of happens. The show expands on that well while also providing more humanity to the hunters so nothing is just black and white.
i like how sam has been drawing superman, and when we see him he has a superhero-esque eye-mask painted on.
I dont get the 'bloodlust' angle from Ellie, I feel like the scene with her and the infected she felt more resentful & angry at the infection because of what happened with Riley. Here she had to shoot a person so she was much more hesitant.
"What about past you?"
Past Calvin is still running feral through the woods until you guys find him.
So we have Tommy's voice actor Jeffrey Pierce playing future Calvin and Joel is obviously Eric with his deafness in one ear so now all we need is a stand in for Aaron.
Bella Ramsey.
@@UberTheWolf She does have the dad jokes down
There's gotta be a Bloater underneath that concrete that's caving in.
I wonder if that might be some subtle foreshadowing for Part 2 as well
Fantastic episode loved that we got Ellie joke book
Nick Offerman's wife is Megan Mullally from Will & Grace.
Aaron saying "Is she going to pull out the gun" at 5:33 when Ellie says "This is your fault then to Joel" was hilarious, that was straight out of left field
"This is your fault then" *BANG*
The Normies references Calvin’s breakdown during ep 3 in their ep4 reaction! Love the love
Forgot to mention it last week but since you liked frank's actor Murray Bartlett, I vote for you to watch the white lotus whenever you have a spot open.
omg yessss
Isn't the leader of the city the actress who played Rose from Two and a half men?
Such a good episode!
So... Rose made it.
Now she's stalking another person instead of Charlie Harper?
Charlie Harper always knew Rose was insane. This just confirms it lol
I wonder if that's a Bloater under that concrete. We saw in a trailer that he is coming out of a hole
Kathleen's right hand man's actor is actually an actor for Tommy in the game.
I know Rick isn’t the hugest fan of the original video game (which is fine since we all have different preferences/opinions), but it just had to be on one of the better live-action video game adaptation so far that Rick isn’t tuning to on this channel. He might still be watching it on his own, which is fine too.
kathleen reminds me of Abby. Perry looks badass.
Doing a lil research for the upcoming ep, Sam will be deaf as the actor playing him, Keivonn Woodard, is deaf. Will be interesting how this changes their dynamic from the game too. I'm not ready for their appearance in the show D':
Joel his self has alluded to many times he has done much worse than has been done to him hence he survived
I'm glad i don't play this game so i can enjoy every minute of this. 💓
Tommy's VA looking like a apocalypse ready war veteran is the reason I want to see more VAs get gigs doing live action stuff as well. So cool.
Props to Calvin for not talking the whole time
Loved getting to see post-Apocalyptic "Kansas City!" Also, very excited for Henry and Sam, and to see Keivonn Montreal Woodard as Sam with the Deaf representation!
This episode featured one of the most unintimidating women I have ever see.
“It’s exhausting being the only gay icon in this house, Nick” - Megan Mullaley
i hope to see in future episodes the dangers of traversing threw the wilderness, because if this is realistic the amount of feral animals there would be, imagine every cat and dog breeding, the bears, wolfs and herbivores without humans would be flourishing in this situation
Absolutely loved this episode. Joel and Ellie are getting close finally.
