Brilliant review, and refreshing to see someone take the time to test this bike. The other reviewers seem to discount this bike, and exclude it from their reviews since it doesn't make 200BHP. To me the difference in HP between this and the other big naked's is irrelevant to riding on the road, and unusable to anyone short of a pro racer even on track. Thanks for covering it.
I've had my Speed Triple for 3 years now -- older model than this one -- and I love it. Taken it all over Europe, just got back from giving it a 1000km spanking in Spain. Like you say, pegs are high and that means if you're in the saddle for several hours, your knees start to hurt. But that 's my only niggle and it's a tiny one. One other issue. It's a proper hooligan bike so pricey to insure if you live in London like me.

Just bought my beautiful 2020 Speed Triple RS. Going in for its 800km service tomorrow. It really is an everyday sort of bike. Well balanced, sounds awesome, useable power and comfy on my daily 170km commute to work and back. I love it. Didn't`t get the quickshifter as I'm a bit old school. Test rode Speed Triple and Street Triple but the Speedie felt more my style. This review is a very accurate, honest one. Mine has tingling vibes in left handlebar at 4000rpm. Should smooth out with more kms as will the gearbox. It really makes sweet music up to 6000rpm and I'm looking forward to being able to wind it out more as it wears in. Keep up the good reviews Teapotone.
hey, you still have the RS? how many miles so far, any troubles? I am thinking of getting a 2019 Speed rs 1050 myself and tasting the waters. how tall are you BTW? Thanks man
What an ace real world review Sir! Agree the blipper is sublime, faultless and really addictive. The quick shift up can be clunky lower down in the first 3 gears. I enjoy the quick take up on the clutch, with the perfect fuelling you can really crack her and leave the 4 wheel haulage far behind. So much adjustibility between the ohlins, brembos and throttle maps then there is the small attentions to detail like color matching the wheel weights, right angled tyre valves, braided lines and classy branding on the pegs. The Gentlemen's Hooligan!! Regards from Perth AU
This is an honest review which is reflected in a 2018 test when Michael Rutter posted better times on the same spec Speed Triple RS but a 2019 model at Donington than the KTM SuperDuke R, BMW S1000r, Honda FireBlade and MT10, even thought the Triumph was massively down on power. The 2017 Tuono Factory was miles ahead and beat the R1 showing that usability in the used environment is far more important than out right power.
I had 2016 ST - this version corrected everything - I’ve got this bike now ans I love it . To be honest - I can not handle all this bikes power on the roads but I love it ! I think it’s arguably the best road naked bike - still
If it’s anything like the 765 street triple I test rode several weeks ago I’d have one tomorrow, that exhaust note is amazing too with the twin arrows...Triumph are making some absolute beauty’s aren’t they !!
I took the Street out for a test ride back in 2011 and I loved. Then I got straight on the Speed Triple for comparison. I rode the Speed down to the roundabout then turned round and went straight back to the dealers and transferred my money there and then! I LOVE my Speedy...
Hallelujah a good RS review. Not too many on the bike available. Its definitely is a handful on bumpy Roads and even at 14st its not compliant. Fine for gentle rides and fantastic on smooth roads. The QS is unbelievable when you use all the revs.
Not many bikes stop you from talking too much Brucey. I own a 2013 speedy and I love it. Triple exhaust note on a decent low boy pipe sounds even better. Love you vids mate keep up the great reviews and enjoy it mate. I got a beer and im watching. 😉

I was thinking taking it over street triple which I used to have. I don’t like the styling though. Also triumphs approached to safety makes me concerned. I had a rr failure due to poor design decisions resulting in burned stator and bike cutting off mid ride. Super dangerous and if this would had happened mid corner It would end up in a accident. It's great to hear such positivity about this bike (that's sure to p off all the haters still moaning about Triumph moving production to Thailand). Thanks bud, just do as much riding as you can and spend time on the bike. When you fuel up, make sure you get some water in you and have something like a protein bar every few hours - not a chocolate bar, that’s just a sugar spike and you’ll ha e a low afterwards. Also remember to stretch when you fuel up too 👍
These are Brilliant bikes! Just so you know you can adjust the rear ohlins to a comfort setting which makes the bike less harsh on the uks bumpy roads. It takes 30 secs! Full instructions in the owners manual! 👍 ✔️
Nice review Bruce! The bike does look glorious but I couldn't really hear the exhaust note properly from your helmet mic. (Just want to hear it rev!) hehehe. I would have that bike, or the 900 Tiger Rallye Pro in a heart beat but atm I'm not in a position to get one unfortunately. I think this and the new Aprilia RS660 look tremendous!
Cheers Al, there’s a bit in the vid where I had the auxiliary sound recorder on so there’s good audio of the exhaust there - perhaps you missed it? Or maybe it wasn’t good enough 😬😂 I’ve heard the Tiger 900 Rallye Pro is pretty special, can’t wait to try it 👍
Was thinking about one of these, but I’ve been hearing there’s a problem with 4 th gear failing, apparently Triumph knows about it ,bikes are getting repaired under warranty, but if it’s out of warranty your on your own.
Update: went to the dealer. Found nothing in the oil. Reinstalled the QS and moved the position of the shifter lever a bit downwards. I use it a bit more aggressive now. Still fingers crossed but no more false neutrals so far. Joy to ride! ###### a month ago: I am all ears about the 4th gear story. Purchased mine last August. 2019 model black and red, brand new, zero miles. I experienced two times a false neutral from 4 th to 5 th using the quickshifter. And once it banged in 5th after a false neutral for a split second. It scared the hell out of me and made me insecure regarding the quickshifter. My bloody feet lifted off the pegs when it happened. Not even mentioning the sound. Sometimes the gear changes using the QS are not very smooth. A bit random to be fair. Maybe a good chain tension helps a bit, i don't know. What bothers me is using the QS is not effortless. I did exactly 2577 KM and maybe I shouldn't moan about 3 false neutrals. Just shift and shut up. Another thing is the noise from the cam shaft train (hope its correct English). Its a bit noisy after the oil warmed up. I have no reference here so maybe its normal. Would I purchase the bike again? Hell yeah - the ear to ear smile bike. I came from a z1000sx. Greetings from The Hague Just have read the post below from Thomas Anderson. My 4th gear is fine. Except from the false neutrals with the quickshifter. I hope I don't get problems with my 4 th gear nor my whole gearbox.
@@teapotone I was at Douglas Park Glasgow getting my bike serviced ,one of the other customers was in for his first service for his S1000 r, he told me he also had a Speed Triple which was in at Triumph Glasgow awaiting a new gearbox,he told me he’s going to sell the Triumph once he gets it back and that’s why he bought the BMW. He also told me his is not the first they’ve had to fix because of the 4th gear failing, that’s as much as I know.

Thanks for the review Bruce. Great to see that a 6'3" fat bloke can ride this and enjoy it over many miles. As another 6'3" fat bloke, it is now an option for me also. Thanks. :-) Just curious, what was the longest time you've spent in the saddle on this? Wondering if any aches and pains (not age related ) after 2+ hours non stop riding. Thanks again.
I tend to ride a full day when I’m out and about. I only stop for fuel and for the odd piece to camera so I regularly do 8-10hrs in the saddle when out testing
@@teapotone Cheers. I'm the same on long days out, but with about +10 years on you, I find I'll have to stop somewhere between 2 and 3 hours of constant riding, just to put the feet down, stand up etc. The fuel stops help with that. ....but curtail the fun. Thanks again.
I've done a little sound comparison on my Speed Triple 1050 S with Stock exhaust, End Cans Off and new SP Engineering Silencers. Would love to know what you think! I'm pleased you like the Speed!!

another awesome video and review thanks Bruce, june 20th next year im doing my first saddle sore 1000 lands end to London then up to John O'Groats, any advice you can give me would be great, i'll be on my 17 year old kawasaki vn800 classic, thanks for the videos they just keep getting better
Cheers Craig 👍
Nice review Bruce! The bike does look glorious but I couldn't really hear the exhaust note properly from your helmet mic. (Just want to hear it rev!) hehehe. I would have that bike, or the 900 Tiger Rallye Pro in a heart beat but atm I'm not in a position to get one unfortunately. I think this and the new Aprilia RS660 look tremendous!
Cheers Al, there’s a bit in the vid where I had the auxiliary sound recorder on so there’s good audio of the exhaust there - perhaps you missed it? Or maybe it wasn’t good enough 😬😂
I’ve heard the Tiger 900 Rallye Pro is pretty special, can’t wait to try it 👍
Was thinking about one of these, but I’ve been hearing there’s a problem with 4 th gear failing, apparently Triumph knows about it ,bikes are getting repaired under warranty, but if it’s out of warranty your on your own.
Really? I’d not heard about this and know a few mates who have them🤷♂️
Update: went to the dealer. Found nothing in the oil. Reinstalled the QS and moved the position of the shifter lever a bit downwards. I use it a bit more aggressive now. Still fingers crossed but no more false neutrals so far. Joy to ride!
###### a month ago:
I am all ears about the 4th gear story. Greetings from The Hague
Just have read the post below from Thomas Anderson.
Bruce would it fly in Slovenian roads as well.....greetings from Brestanica
Hi Mo Mo!! How are you doing my friend?
Yes this bike would be fantastic fun on your amazing roads 👍👏
Apologies, I made stupid comment after a few sherbets and you were bang on right with your response, keep promoting those patreon clan members and good luck to you, I need to stay off the sherbets when watching RUclips!
No bother George, appreciate you responding bud 👍
Thanks for the review Bruce.
Great to see that a 6'3" fat bloke can ride this and enjoy it over many miles. As another 6'3" fat bloke, it is now an option for me also. Thanks. :-)
Just curious, what was the longest time you've spent in the saddle on this?
Wondering if any aches and pains (not age related ) after 2+ hours non stop riding.
Thanks again.
I tend to ride a full day when I’m out and about. I only stop for fuel and for the odd piece to camera so I regularly do 8-10hrs in the saddle when out testing
@@teapotone Cheers.
I'm the same on long days out, but with about +10 years on you, I find I'll have to stop somewhere between 2 and 3 hours of constant riding, just to put the feet down, stand up etc.
The fuel stops help with that. ....but curtail the fun.
Thanks again.
No of course, I stop for fuel too and that’s when I get off the bike for a stretch when paying for fuel etc 👍
What brand is your helmet!? Really good review. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Michael, glad you enjoyed it.
That was the Ruroc Atlas 2.0
Really love the sound of this bike.
Great video Bruce..especially liked the beginning when you were showing us around the bike. 👍🏻😁👏🏻
Cheers Keith, that’s standard across all my recent review vids now 👍
Great Bike, Really good review as ever Teapot...... but can't find any of the Street Triple RS 2020 on your channel yet, love to see you do one :)
Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it. I’ve not tried the Street yet, hope to get one for a bit soon though 👍
I wanted to ask about calamoto. When I tried it , I found the sound too quiet using AirPods. I just couldn’t hear directions . What’s your setup ?
I never bother with the voice instruction on any satnavs, I just read the map and directions
Gorgeous bike, real head turner. 😍
Great video fantastic bike looking forward to new triumph speed triple stay safe 🇬🇧👍🏻
Cheers Richard, and you 👍
I've done a little sound comparison on my Speed Triple 1050 S with Stock exhaust, End Cans Off and new SP Engineering Silencers. Would love to know what you think! I'm pleased you like the Speed!!
Looking real good Sir!😎
Hi Bruce. I see you edit on a Mac. What editing software do you use/recommend. As I am still at infant stage in terms of vids I am still using iMovie but it has its limitations
I use Final Cut Pro X bud - expensive but worth the investment if you are going to do vid editing seriously.
There are plenty of free/cheaper ones out there though if you want to shop around 🤷♂️
@@teapotone thanks Bruce
Great review mate but there is only one scalpel ktm 890r try one your love it
Cheers Paul, aye I’ve not tried that one yet 👍
Hi Bruce awesome view on the speed RS,so I ride the street RS got to change it next year so I mite sorry will take for a test ride so I will take the 1160 out cant wait anyway take care and ride safe TTFN
Brilliant review Bruce
Thanks Chris 👍
Not sure you can blame the suspension for being harsh if you're up in the 20 stone range, they tune it for like 13 stone!
Great video & review 👍🏻👏🏻🏍💨
2 years ago when I heard about This bike . it was definitely gonna be my upgrade from my 2016 street triple 675 but then I made the fateful error of jumping on a Gs 🤪🙄😂🏍💨 did I make the right choice ?? 🧐 (yep)✅👍🏻🏍💨
Course you did!!!
😉👍
The introduction video of the opening motorcycle is cool! I want to imitate someday
Currently riding a Suzuki GSX 1400 with Yoshi cams etc but would love a newer bike and these look awesome......!!!!!!!
What helmet is that in your video? Thanks
Great review on a great bike, It is perfect for the road...I luv my Speed RS :-)
Thanks Al, it’s a fantastic road bike isn’t it. That and the new Superduke R are my two firm favourites so far 👍
I seriously think you need to try a Rocket 3... the torque and acceleration in 3rd and 4th is just crazy.
I really want to try one, and will be getting one from Triumph UK at some point.
Can’t wait 👍
@@teapotone when you do, take it easy at first it’s brutal and it’ll understeer the bike. You have to wait until you are really quite straight coming out of a corner before you crack the throttle.
Thanks bud, will keep that in mind 👍
Nyce... I ride the same lump in a slightly different format, about same torque which is the real joy of that 1050cc but the overhaul in the Speed Triple leaves me with a bit less horsepower, 128 you're at a stated 148 !? If u want "agricultural" btw, as you described the quick shifter, you should try the GT's gearbox. When I first got it, it sounded like somebody was dropping a lump hammer inside the engine case everytime I changed down ;D Am a bit smoother now ! Great review thank you. I love, love, love that torquey 1050cc lump so, might have an idea what my next bike is ;-D
Hi good vid.its about time triumph made a new tiger 1050 with that engine in it. ooh it would be a 1060 😁
Top draw review video, it must be good if it runs the Beast 3.0 close
We don't have a Triumph dealer here..
I wand a Speed Triple so bad...
I recognise most of the roads as I live in the mid-sussex area, however, where was the village that you started from? Great review by the way. That beard of yours seems to have grown substantially during the vlog 😉........
That was Eynsford
@@teapotone between Sevenoaks and Farningham that`s at the bottom of , as we call it, Death Hill
Some great roads around there
@@teapotone I bought one from JS Gedge in St Leonards on Sea in July, lusted after one since 94. during your video, all I could hear was an echo, from me Ha ha
That was the Ford in Eynsford. As he turned right onto the main road - if he'd turned left, Brands Hatch is just up the road!
Great review. Very professional 👍
Thanks bud 👍
It only takes a single word to describe this bike - gaudy
Great home entertainment while awaiting spring to come back👍🏻
Another good watch 😎☝️👌and a good review, one of my favs bikes for sure , unfortunately it is a bit of a old dog now in relation to the competition considering the price , but will always hold a place in my heart 💓
hi there fellow bikers from one biker to another i really want one of these n put of abit from test riding one as am 5'3 so am on the short side n riding a lowered vfr800 n looking for advise on wud i struggle owning one of these any advise is welcome
Weiner Schnitzel better than prime British beef? Not sure about that..
Happy travels
Is these bike having a cruise Control or not
My Mrs is cross with u!!! You made me buy one!!
Nice vid mate! This covid thing has hit us all hard, but have you dropped a few stones?
Nope I’m still pretty much the same weight bud, usual sit around the 20 stone mark, but my ideal fighting weight it around 16.5-17 stone, that’s my eventual target (whenever I kick my ass into gear and start doing something about it 🤦♂️👍)
@@teapotone mate you’re just fine at 20 stone!! You don’t want to be a light weight like me at 16.5!!
Cheese on toast !!eyes n ears 😂😂 great review on the Trumpet Bruce quality bike with beans when ye want it ! Arrow cans on it sound amazing !
Cheers John 😉👍
What’s that helmet broski?
It’s the Ruroc Atlas 2.0
I did a vid on it ages ago - ruclips.net/video/kqwpK0NhZVM/видео.html
@@teapotone cheers fella.. think I tried one on before but didn’t recognise it with the go pro on the grill.. looks good..great production on the helmet vid too
