She didn't see where the ball landed but made the call anyway.
The referee confirming the out call is just egregious.
Saying that only 1 person on the bench was looking @ the ball and they say it was out - extremly hard to believe.
MLP having no plan for challenges indoors - again shows how inept or just cheap they're running things.
Even the announcer saw it in & was moving on. No one in that area had the stream going?
Just basically saying if we did cheat just get over yourself? I get it. Circle the wagons to protect the tribe.
Hopefully lessons learned all around and things are better in the future.

The thing that honestly rubs me the wrong way is how Jimmy tries to trivialize how it affected the match. It's game 4 on a 17-17 game, of course it's going to have an impact. If you can't trust your opponent's integrity, that will play a part in the mental aspect of a game. It can affect where and how much you put into an attack if you can't trust your opponents to have integrity to make the right line calls. Plus just knowing you got hooked is already frustrating enough to affect someone's mental.
Trying to minimize the impact by saying how there was so many more points after and the game remained close is such an L take and just feels like you are trying to gaslight the audience so you can feel better about the situation.

@Chorspool you must not have listened to Jimmy's little story I'm referring to. He literally berates a little league football coach on his pod for doing the exact thing he himself just did. It's extremely easy to acknowledge the ball was out after his team had gone on and won the match and the entire world saw that it was in bounds by a foot. Obviously Jimmy is not gonna go around saying the ball was in and he stands by the call. It's also very easy to say "I didn't see it." Listen, I'm a big fan of the podcast and really enjoy Jimmy and his commentary but in a moment of weakness and competition, Jimmy and his team effed up. He's owned it. Now we can move on.

@@travisrettenmaier1539 the right thing to do is subjective though. Yes, it was a bad call, but people in the sidelines are not supposed to make line calls. It’s not their job, there’s a line judge, Rafa hewett, and Michelle esquivel there to make the call. Not the teammates on the sidelines.
I’d also like to note that you’re failing to take into account human biology, where a lot of high speed balls, it’s actually impossible for the human eye to track it, so our brain fills in the blank with what it thinks happens. So if those players aren’t specifically paying attention to where the ball is going to land, and are just watching the ball, it’s quite possible that they didn’t see it clearly as well.

The 2024 MLP rules state that except as shown in the MLP rules document, USA Pickleball rules apply. USA Pickleball rules allow a player / team to make a line call to their own disadvantage. I don't see anywhere that either set of rules says "if a referee makes the call, then a player may not make a line call to their own disadvantage." When someone makes a mistake, the best thing a good sportsman or sportswoman can do is say, "I made a mistake. I apologize for it." No ifs, ands or buts! Momentum during a game is a real thing. Instead of Jimmy taking responsibility, he mocks Yates for being short. Totally unprofessional.

All these line call issues would not be an ISSUE if the organization would invest in the right equipment. As it stands, you see all the problems this causes from the players to the officiating to player pettiness and immaturity. In the end, it’s a bad look that the sport doesn’t need.

  • @surfah33

Michelle 10000% has a history with line close/bad line calls. Does that mean every single one of her calls is incorrect?
So to confirm: Player A should overturn their call because Player B thought Player A's call was incorrect?

@@morekingofthecourt Actually what you stated is exactly what should have happened. Once her partner (Player B in this case) wanted to call it in then yes it overrides her (Player A) out call. Disagreement between partners means the ball is IN. That's the way it's written in the rulebook, unless of course MLP has some rules that are different. • @travisrettenmaier1539

Again, you’re 100% correct if player both clearly sees the ball in and out it should be ruled in.
