    I haven't seen anyone talk about this but Stormveil castle the dungeon is distinct from its overworld model. I.e., if you stand at the Church of Elleh and look up, Stormveil appears to be miles up in the cliffs. Likewise, if you stand at the foot of Stormveil and look down, Limgrave is miles below you.
    But the actual distance covered through the Castleward Tunnel from Limgrave is negligible. It's clear there's an invisible transition which loads an entirely seperate Stormveil map, rather than you actually traveling to Stormveil in the overworld. They hide this transition by making the area closer to Stormveil very misty, so you can't see the discrepancy between the overworld model and the actual map.
    It's really clever and it shows From are taking a unique approach to open-world level design by recycling tricks from their linear games.

      You know now that I think about it I noticed a few times throughout diff- videos/screenshots was that Stormveil looked either bigger or different from separate directions on the map so maybe that’s it. I would definitely like to see a video about this totally agree.

    people complaining about graphics clearly dont understand that theres more to making a game look good than having technically advanced visuals, a game doesnt look good if theres higher resolution textures and more advanced lighting or reflections, its about the actual design of the things in the game. graphically, the game is amazing, and it does it at a spectacular level without a stupid level of fidelity. i dont understand how you can see the absolute artistic perfection in this game and say it doesnt look good, you've gotta be doing some intense mental gymnastics to believe its an ugly game.

    The Shattering of the Elden Ring, the events covered in the Story Trailer, plus the presumed timeline of the game presented by the Network Test, reminds me of the narrative dynamic of Robert's Rebellion in SOIAF. So many characters who have intimate, complex, and sometimes antagonistic relationships with one another, have more or less retreated to their corners as a result of a singular dramatic betrayal. Godrick, Radahn, Melenia the Severed, and yet-revealed characters probably all have alot to say about their perspective on The Shattering. Very GRRM. I suspect you'll have bosses that stick around after you defeat them, to dump more lore via dialogue. We don't have to interact with bosses other than just emptying the world of gods, like Dark Souls.

Started with Demon Souls on PS3 and was frustrated the first time I played and then quit and a few months later came back with a level head and beat them. I just wish I could go back in time and feel the feelings I felt when I was just starting for the first time. Unfortunately that feel has gone away since playing all of them but I still love these games with a passion. Instead of Taunter's Tongue or even just system settings for solo invasions... I would prefer if it was a covenant. You only need to equip it and you can be only invaded by 1 invader. If you defeat an invader you obviously get a resource only they can get which hopefully you could turn in for good rewards. This would incentivize people to try out PvP more and it wouldnt be an item which you have to use every time you die.

    Good podcast although I strongly disagree with the demon souls remake bit. The studio did say they really didn't wanna upset fan and didn't wanna make changes so people complained. I don't think it's that they don't get the game. Ratoskr also failed to acknowledge that bluepoint added 26 ceramic coins to unlock one of the most requested armor sets the fans have wanted. Saying bluepoint doesn't get it because of magic was kinda stupid. They left it the same because that is what fans wanted

    I might comment multiple times, but if I do I'll mention what I'm specifically talking about in each post. This post specifically is about the "people are sick of DS" segment.
    I wouldn't say I'm necessarily sick of DS or that I don't want another DS-style game, and I'm definitely very hyped for Elden Ring, but I think the main point of this argument is being missed by Ratatoskr, Zio and Prynne. At least the way I feel about it, DS combat is good but other games have already begun taking the idea of DS combat and evolving it to the next level. Nioh and Nioh 2, for example, play very similarly to DS but they also have much more specialized stamina management, almost enough to be its own mini-game, multi-button combo attacks, different stances, Diablo-esque itemization, Nioh 2 has Yokai skills and Yokai form, etc. It feels very DS in many ways, but it many ways it feels very different from DS but still incredibly fun: I would personally call it something akin to an evolution of DS. Lots of other games are also taking cues from DS combat even if their actual combat doesn't share every aspect that DS combat does. For example, God of War PS4's combat often felt very Soulslike even though it didn't have stamina management or interchangeable weaponry. Many new Metroidvanias also take inspiration from DS combat but pair said combat with a focus on movement and especially airborne combat, such as Hollow Knight, Vigil: The Longest Night or GRIME.
    When you compare all that to Dark Souls 3, DS3 feels to me like it's getting left behind. To be honest that's understandable since DS3 came out before most of the games I'm talking about: clearly they drew inspiration from DS. However, having played all those other games that were like DS but in some ways more interesting and, I'd personally argue, better, it's hard to go back to DS combat and still be as enthralled as I was before I saw all those other options. As someone who loves to travel I would liken it to enjoying a certain type of ethnic food, going to the country of its origin and having the amazing authentic food there, then returning home and trying your favorite restaurant again. Unless you are very lucky and live somewhere with incredible authentic ethnic food, the food you have when you return will probably be a let-down even though the quality hasn't gone down at all because you've now experienced what you could be having, theoretically speaking anyway. It's not a perfect comparison but I feel like its gets the gist of what I'm saying about DS combat: it was incredible in the past, then I played some games that took the same ideas but improved upon them in some ways, and now the old combat feels a little stale, like it's missing something that I hadn't realized I wanted back when I was so enthralled.
    Now, with all that in context, let's talk about Sekiro. Sekiro is like the other games evolving DS combat in that its combat feels very similar to DS in many ways, but is also incredibly different in new and exciting ways. Specifically, Sekiro takes the idea of parrying and refines it into the best sword combat game I have ever either played or seen. Combat still nominally plays like DS but there is now a real sense of back and forth in combat and controlling the flow of battle itself is just as important as getting in little hits here and there. The addition of all of Sekiro's movement mechanics, and the enemy attacks they countered, meant that rather than simply waiting for an enemy to do an easily punishable attack you were instead rewarded best for reading your opponent and responding to their attacks with your counters to them. The ninja prosthetics also helped a lot as they often acted like Zelda dungeon items, being specifically useful against certain bosses at certain times, yet they never trivialized a fight and not having them never made a fight unfairly hard. They were another tool in the player's arsenal, ones that only had specific uses but were incredibly helpful in those circumstances.
    Bringing this all back around to Elden Ring, my impressions from seeing the CNT (sadly I didn't get a key and couldn't play it) were that ER is more of a Smash Bros Ultimate than a DS evolution. It's more of "everyone is here!" and less of a next step forward. Pretty much all the mechanics from the previous DS games and Sekiro have returned in some form or another, but despite this the game doesn't really seem like it has a major gameplay system that differentiates and elevates the combat from previous games. Obviously the open world has a huge impact on the whole game feel, and from what we can tell the RPG mechanics seem to be quite improved, but the actual combat doesn't seem particularly different or evolved from what came before. In other words, it seems like you can play ER's combat more or less the same way you played DS's combat and get by about as well.
    I think that's a shame. Considering how much of a jump forward I saw Sekiro as, it seems strange to me that ER is more or less standing in place rather than evolving further. Again, I understand that many other aspects of the DS formula are evolving in ER and I could even be convinced (probably) that it would be unreasonable to expect combat to evolve again alongside everything else. Nevertheless I can't help but be a bit disappointed considering that combat is pretty much the standard way we interact with the environment in FromSoft games. The combat definitely looks fun and I'm sure it will be an improvement over DS3, but compared to a Sekiro or a Nioh 2, or even to a good Souls-like Metroidvania like Hollow Knight, I'm not sure the combat in ER will hold up to the high standards that have been set by other genre innovators. Dark Souls is simply an old franchise now, and even though it's still great and I still play the games it is familiar and no longer exciting compared to the competition. Everything I've seen of ER suggests to me that it strays far closer to familiar territory than to the new and groundbreaking, and considering how amazing of a job From did with iterating combat in Sekiro I just think it's a shame that ER does not appear to be continuing the trend.
    I will admit here that I could be wrong because we've only seen a tiny fraction of the game. Maybe each Great Rune we capture grants us a new power much like beating the Divine Beasts did in Breath of the Wild, and/or maybe the game's combat becomes much more varied and dynamic than what we've seen so far. More than anything else about ER I would love to be wrong about the combat, I just don't think that I am. The game's combat looks like it will be very solid fun, it just seems a shame to me that a game that is breaking ground in so many other ways is mostly sticking to good old standard Dark Souls combat when all the games over the last few years have shown me how much further those general combat concepts can be pushed.
    EDIT: If Ziostorm is correct and there are a ton of spells that are situational and ask you to play in different ways to take full advantage of them, then THAT would fulfill my expectations of evolving combat in some way, and it would also make me happy since I'm a magic stan. I really hope the leaks are correct about that. Honestly I hope the leaks are correct about pretty much everything I've seen since I haven't seen that much, but what I have seen sounds really really cool. But yeah, if it turns out that situational spells are ER combat's X factor then I, and by extension a lot of people, will have egg on my face. And if that is the case then I will be the happiest person with egg on their face around.

      The problem is the DS combat is older then DS, it's effective the exact same thing that Nintendo used in 1998 with Ocarina of Time. It a rather old and well proven combat system, makes sense why soft would just copy it.

    • @quintonhoffert6526
      @quintonhoffert6526 2 года назад

      @@SpottedHares This is true, and a good point in general, but I feel like it furthers my main point. The core of this combat system has been around for decades now: because of this, any innovation even if it's small feels groundbreaking and incredible (assuming, of course, that said innovation actually works). Elden Ring will almost undoubtedly be a good game whether it innovates or not, but I think it will feel like it has missed and/or untapped potential if the combat more or less stays the same.

    Also, I'm definitely one of those people who doesn't invade or go out of my way to PVP much, but I like being organically invaded every now and then while I'm playing. To me it's just part of the experience of playing one of these games. I think the big reason they decided to disable it by default is the world bosses. In other Souls games, you couldn't be invaded while fighting a boss, but since there are going to be some (presumably pretty tough) world bosses, it would kinda suck to get invaded and destroyed while fighting a boss because it required your full attention. If they implemented something like maybe temporarily not allowing you to be invaded mid-fight if you're currently engaging a world boss, that could work.

I don't really want to get invaded. I just want to focus on the game. Learn the mechanics. Enjoy the story, explore & build my character. I understand people that dont want to be invaded there first play threw. I'm one of them. But I also understand the PVP community. Keeping the game going. Not having to fight 2 or 3 on one and so on. I think this would be a great solution. Ones u hit new game +. Its free game take off the fucking training weels TIME TO GET GOOD. U should have the experience to PVP. You've had the time to explore. You've had the time to learn the mechanics, You have an idea of how u want to play. Mele, magic and so on. I've played and beaten Demons Souls and all 3 Dark Souls. Its frustrating getting evaded your first play threw. But ones your on new game +. U don't worry about it no more. If u win u win if u loose u loose. Your not worried about loosing your souls. Its not that big of a loss. U have experience and an idea of how to play. Its just time to GET GOOD. Getting your ass kicked isn't a bad thing. As long as your learning. Then ones u GET GOOD and u kick some ass yourself. Its ok. Invasion ant a problem no more. Just an idea 💡 and a possible solution to the invasion issue. Trying to look at both sides of the fence. Every shot we've seen of Milaenia and Rhodan fighting is on a desolate, reddened battlefield, but nothing on the leaked map looks like this. We know that they were the 2 strongest beings at the time and there was no victor of this fight. Rhodan "conquered the stars," the battlefield appears to be burning hot, and there is a giant impact crater on the leaked map. Milaenia is found at the base of the Yrd Tree, the yrd tree is nowhere to be seen during their battle, and the impact crater is RIGHT next to the yrd tree. We see her blossom into a giant golden flower on rhodans back, we know this battle took place long ago, and the yrd trees sap contains "primordial life." I think rhodan crashed the sky temple into the earth creating the crater, for which rhodans and milaenias forces went to war, and that crater is where their battle took place a long time ago. I think milaenia trapped herself and rhodan to stop him, the last 2 standing, creating the yrd tree in the process, and the "primordial life" in the sap is her life force.

    No leaked/datamined content ahead: I think Elden Ring in it's summation is the law of causality. Runes are just parts of it that causality applies to - death, gravity, etc.. Elden Ring is the source of the Erdtree, which shines the rays of Greater Will upon the Lands Between. This Will is exactly what shackled fate, it allows to forge our fate and it makes sense that it happened with the Age of the Erdtree. I assume it wasn't the case before Greater Will and Elden Ring, because even if Will existed what purpose would it have if your choices had no consequences without causality itself?
    In addition to that I think Melina is the Greater Will/Spirit Avatar of the Erdtree. The whole burned and bodyless, lost purpose give to her by her mother in the Erdtree, Melina being spectral and Erdtree being kinda spectral too.. all of it just seems to point to that direction.

    The hyperbole is off the charts in this video. We're all fans here guys. Bluepoint did an incredible job with their MGS collection, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus remaster, SotC Remake, and Demon's Souls Remake. Saying that they just don't get Demon's Souls is wrong. Making games is one of the most difficult things you can do. They couldn't haphazardly recreate something on this level without having done an immense amount of time researching the game and likely communicating with FS to some extent. While unproven with new IPs, I think they are by far the best in the business with regard to remakes. Different artists worked on the assets this time around and they used a new engine with mostly recycled code. Some liberties were definitely taken, but focusing on some the aspects you don't agree with and nitpicking at the changes they made and didn't make completely undermines the hard work that went into recreating a classic for more people to experience and appreciate. Imagine if any other team handled the remake. Perhaps the uproar would be warranted then. The original is always there for people to play if that's your preferred version.

      Re-creating the graphics and creating a world isn't the same thing
      People are happy with Bluepoint graphical rework but that's what they're good at!
      But they just don't understand the souls world. They didn't created it so if bluepoint really is making bloodborne 2 we can't extect them to make the magnificent world that people loved like in the first bloodborne.
      It will just be pretty. Just that.

    • @Malik-ig3ml
      @Malik-ig3ml 2 года назад +4

      The fact that they had to recycle code 1:1 to recreate the game probably proves they don't understand it. They knew anything they did themselves risked compromising what Demon's Souls is, so in 99.9% of cases they simply didn't bother.
      In terms of art direction they certainly don't understand Demon's Souls, and if you've looked into the pipeline of the development at all you'd know most of the assets, including sometimes initial designs, were outsourced. It's no wonder the style of the game ended up so inconsistent.

    As far as PvP goes, I do wonder if ultra weapons will really provide the dump truck hyper armor to push through a group all bunched up, but you cant just telegraph it. Hard swaps in PvP are going to be even more important, not just for the fact that you can have the same weapon with different Ashes to mix up opponents expecting what you already used, but for getting hyper armor out of your pocket when a party converges on you.
    Plus, a long ultra with the lunging stab Ash sounds really nice.

    I think the whole "bluepoint interview" thing might more so be a "stuck in the corner view" since everyone sees the remake more so as a entire remake with balance and graphics, when they set out for just the graphics and bit more optimization. So, when people like the community and youtubers with a big number of followers start talking about them like they royally fucked up kinda makes them seem in the wrong. So, they say stupid crap in interviews when it comes to anything regarding gameplay/balance. The goal was graphics and optimization for the ps4. They did that, they get an A.

    Have to put this out there. Fromsoftware while obviously have crafted beautiful games in the past, including elden ring, but have reached their peak when it come to graphical fidelity. They need new people to push their games into next gen. bluepoint helping with bloodborne 2 wouldn't be them designing levels, balancing, crafting enemies or anything when it comes to gameplay. They didn't change much when coming to demonsouls because they are smart enough to understand their limits. With bloodborne being a Sony exclusive, there is no doubt that there is alot of pressure for bloodborne 2 to push consoles. It has become a flagship. I would rather someone like bluepoint take charge when it comes to this, than rather have miyazaki's team, spend too much time trying to figure something like èthis out. I feel like asking them to take the graphical fidelity of bloodborne 2 to the next level right after elden ring, with probably a 2-3 year development cycle is too much. I personally would prefer bluepoint to handle the sony games graphically, while the original team continue their work on the xbox and pc titles. Alot of people love demon souls remake (including myself), and I don't see why we can't have both.

    People who like dses complain about degradation and casualty of mechanics since each souls-like iteration. I am talking about world's global mechanics, not about combat. Covenants have became useless and lost it's importance, all unique world's changing mechanics are gone, cross-world interaction removed, punishment for dieing cost nothing to host. Also, specifically in Elden Ring, I saw that pvp combat mechanics are also degradated in contrast to ds3.
    No good punishment mechanics for mistakes (removed bs and combo attacks (reworked hyperarmor and poise)), which leads to destroying skill importance and give gankers much easier life. Seems like netcode hasn't been changed as well as no glitches were fixed. But that's my opinion on pvp, we ll see what they ll change in release.

If you use whole red eye orb -> gets you those double covenant item rewards.
