  • This video demonstrates the dreaded Sony Bravia 3 blinking red light problem on a KDL-52XBR4 52" LCD TV. This TV works perfectly fine when it does work but it has become progressively less stable and now refuses to turn on for more than a couple of seconds. The standby light blinks red after it finally fails with 3 red blinks (usually), which only narrows the problem down to a faulty power supply board or a faulty logic board. Sometimes the light blinks 6 or 8 times, which could also point to the inverter board being bad.
    In this video I walk you through the symptoms, the diagnostic rationale, tips and tricks to identify where the problem is likely to be, which parts you may need to replace and then I perform the repair and show the results, all step by step and with detailed explanation. This kind of diagnostic and repair can be done on many Sony Bravia LCD models and may apply more broadly to other LCD TVs in general that operate on a similar premise.

    Mine is similar to yours in that, I both get the flashing red light 3 times, but when the screen is on it looks fine (before it turns off after 15 seconds), so it shouldn't be the mainboard. I will try the power board first (JK board) and hope that that fixes it on my 55XE9005. My AC Adaptor is external brick (which I replaced first but it still gives same error), but the JK board is in the repair manual as a possible fix. Hopefully that fixes it for me too.

    This is my exact issue. I can even hear the click of the relay. I called 8 repair places, most are out of business and the 2 that I talked to said I should buy a new one.

      Yeah because they don't know how to fix these issues anymore. Not like the TV uses ancient technology or anything... it's like maybe 15-20 yrs old. I'm disappointed with these so called experts who seem to only be capable of running self-diagnostics and replacing highly integrated sub-systems in a sort of "nuke the whole area" approach. My "expert" told me it was the main board and when it wasn't he threw his arms in the air and left me with my multi-meter to figure out it was the power supply instead. Before you buy a new TV run through what I did and see if the voltage is stable while it's booting up. If it drops while clicking, you should take the risk in buying a new power supply. That might just be the issue and you can save your TV. Mine is still going strong today just like new.

      @@ChrisCamaroYour reply is great and I totally get it. Unfortunately, I just don't have time to run diagnostics. I'm not even an engineer so it ACTUALLY is cheaper to spend that time working and earning more dough then ordering a TV to be delivered to my door.

      @@JeremyYost That's perfectly fine if you want to do that. I just did this video to share what I learned in case you find it worthy to save the old TV. Finding available replacement parts are actually harder than the diagnostic or repair portions. Don't need to be an engineer, merely need to have access to a cheapo multimeter that can measure voltage and it would be enough to see the board voltage drop when you turn the TV on, as demonstrated in the video. For about 100 bucks the TV can be good as new. But I understand if you don't choose to do it. There if you need it.

    Hi..on this model tv ...if lcd screen is cracked will tv still power on or no?

    • @ChrisCamaro
      @ChrisCamaro  Год назад

      It should. Powering on just requires that the power supply can turn on and then it gets proper voltages back from the other boards.

      Ok..reason i ask is that on this model tv it shows no power on and 6 blinking lights is lcd panel issue...i dont know the blinks because i tore tv apart.for parts and trying to guess which parts may be good...

      @@shelby50411 If you've removed parts, then that makes diagnosis more difficult, as it could be any of those parts.

      Correct...but prior to parting out the screen was cracked and tv wouldnt power on...and after i did some research it does show that this sont tv per error code charge does have a code that relates to lcd panel...typically lcd tv with a cracked lcd panel will power on but this tv im not sure....thanks

      @@shelby50411 There are 2 high voltage boards, one on each side of the screen, that power the screen itself. If either of them are shot, or they aren't returning the correct voltage to the PSU, the TV won't fire up. Essentially all this can be checked with a multimeter. If you have the time to trace the path of the wires back and forth from these boards, you can check the voltages (carefully, these are high voltage) and determine which one is misreporting.
