I mentioned in the video that I would put in the comments what Aeon said about Smoke Extraction. They say it more clearly that I could, but then they been at this for years. START OF QUOTE " What you were describing about air being blown back into the front of the machine is what we call Active Airflow. It is a series of fans that have been mounted to the front access panel of the machine to help introduce makeup air at a faster rate. The Iris acts as a valve at the rear of the machine. It switches between the top vents inside the cabinet and the ones underneath the bed, depending on whether you are engraving or cutting. If you are engraving, the smoke remains above the material and so the top vents are the better way to go. On the contrary, cutting sends the smoke beneath the material and so the bottom vents are more efficient. Typically, the exhaust fan would just pull from both locations at the same time, essentially at 50% capacity. By shutting the vent that is not in use, we create 100% efficiency, which improves the quality of the work and reduces the amount of residual smoke thus reducing cleaning frequency and post processing.
