    Seeing all these comments from people (who I presume have straight hair) saying she should leave her natural hair. Like do you know the struggles of curly hair; that isn't perfect ringlets, that is just unruly and frizzy? Didn't think so... It's a hassle.

      I have curly hair. It is certainly easier to style curly hair than spending 40 minutes blowing out your hair straight, every 2-3 days and “dying of sweat after”. 9:35 😂 curly hair is more maintenance than naturally straight hair, but less maintenance than *this* .

      +Gud Rohi I actually blow dried my curly hair in under 15 minutes. i always frizz and my hair gets poufy and gross if i do it myself. but i recently picked up a leave in serum with a milk base that i use on my damp hair then i apply frizz ease, then i tried blow drying like Carly and OMG! it really does work

    natural curls are a major pain in the ass. I feel her pain, they look good when they're damp like her's were but when you walk outside they just poof. Don't get me wrong I like curly hair, but I have to use a curling iron to get the kind of curls I want. I don't blame her for styling her hair all the time

      lilinotlilly I have curly hair. It's super tight/small curls. I consider this curly. There is more than one type of curl. Even people with curls that look similar don't necessarily have the same type of hair or curl pattern. I get my friends sending me videos and pictures of all these girl with natural hair saying things like "this reminds me of you" "she has hair like yours" "you should try this" but what they don't realize is that even though it's similar it's not necessarily the same. There is such a wide verity of curly hair, and this is one of them.

    I am a curly hair girl. As curly hair women, we can go straight or curly. Your hair is beautiful straight or curly. You act as if curly/frizzy as you call hair is a negative. Whether a woman has straight, curly, wavy or more coarse hair, it's all beautiful. Just a thought. No one holds ideal beauty. We are all beautiful.

      Yeah I know. Curls can look pretty but they are a pain in the butt to control. I think that people with straight hair who want curly hair don't understand how hard it is to deal with. Don't get me wrong, it is nice to be able to walk out the door with wet hair knowing people will love it curly but to me it just feels very...big. I wouldn't mind my curls if they didn't poof outward so much. There just isn't as much you can do with you're hair either.

    I'm willing to stick my neck out on this one and reply to all the people who are saying her "natural curls are prettier" and "why go to all that work" - as someone with naturally curly hair that gets frizzy at the drop of a hat as well:
    1. long, straight hair with large waves/curls is very fashionable right now with celebrities. It's an on-trend look in pop culture. The same way women in the 60s & 70s would literally IRON their hair to look like Cher, women of today are trying to look like their fashion icons (a la Beyonce, Hillary Scott, Cheryl Crow, Megan Fox, etc.) and this is how those of us with curly/frizzy hair do that.
    2. Curly/frizz-prone hair gets increasingly difficult to manage the longer it gets. For those of us who don't want to rock the pixie afro or bouncy shoulder curls every day, blow-drying/straightening is a viable option. Air drying hair, especially in the dry winter months (midwest/northeast US especially know what I'm talking about), can lead to STATIC and frizz and tangles and very un-pretty curls. While indoors those curls may look fine for about an hour after drying. If you go outside, the clothing used to keep you warm (sweaters, wool coats, parkas with hoods, etc. etc.) create static and will frizz your hair or more fun: make you look like you touched one of those giant lightning balls they have at the kids' and science museums... Then the static-electrified hair needs something to adhere to, so it wraps around and plasters itself to your face, getting your lip gloss into your eyeliner and just making a complete mess out of your entire attempt at a "natural" look.
    We girls with naturally curly hair understand that sometimes the only way to live with those "beautiful" curls is to learn how to tame them. Also please realize that aside from celebrities or those who literally work in the public eye 24/7 (i.e. nobody), no one actually does this to their hair continually. When we're home on a Saturday morning watching cartoons with our kids or out at a water park with friends & family, on a boat fishing or jumping into the lake for a moonit skinny dip with our honey, we're not going to run off to spend 45min "perfecting" our hair. This is for when we NEED to look really good - and there are enough helpful tips in this video (and many others on youtube) about how to protect hair from the heat. This lovely young lady has what appears to be beautiful, healthy, strong hair that she obviously doesn't mistreat - those signs would be quite apparent. She's doing it right!
    Hope this (kinda long, sorry) explanation sheds some light for anyone wondering why we "Curly Sues" will go to this much trouble with our hair :) Keep up the good work, Carli! Would love to know what products you use in your daily hair care routine!!

    You don't even really need heat to make your hair look good! It looked amazing and all you did was blow-dry it! So blessed to have such easy manageable hair. You may or may not think so, but when you're born black with nappy, dry, and hard to grow hair, you will really come to realize how much of a blessing it is to have your hair.

    Why do you think your curly hair is gross? Curly hair is beautiful and unique. Unfortunately we have all be trained to think that straight hair is better and to care for curly hair like straight hair. when curly hair is cared form from beginning to end you get beautiful results that straight hair could never get.

    • @vermillion36
      @vermillion36 8 лет назад +32

      Some people, like myself, just don't have the time to care for our curly hair. Compared to straight hair, it's A LOT of work. She calls it gross because it's frizzy with an undefined curl pattern, I have the same thing, and in real life it just looks like a mess. Wearing it straight it just easier and you'll know for sure that it will look good. When trying to wear it curly you have to keep washing it, try out products, watch it dry, and then 9 out of 10 times you don't like it and end up wearing it straight anyways.

    • @DanteVelasquez
      @DanteVelasquez 8 лет назад +10

      I get that absolutely. I have curly hair myself and when i was younger i felt that way. But i've learned that treating curly hair as curly hair instead of straight hair as we are taught to makes curly hair look better and behave better and reduces frizz. With the right products and tools that can be achieved on a regular basis. that being said, i certainly love to wear my hair straight as well. What saddens me is when people view curly hair as a problem, or bad, not as good as straight hair or more difficult because it actually is none of those things. It's simply different from straight hair and has different needs. I find it much easier and quicker to style my curly hair in 5-10 than the 45 minutes it takes to straighten it, and i love that i have the option to wear it both ways, as natural curly hair patterns are all unique and cannot be duplicated on naturally straight hair, whereas we can straighten out hair whenever we want. But of course i respect anyone who wants to wear their curly hair straight all the time and always recommend keratin or thermal reconditioning treatments.

    Great tip on the baby hairs! Love how this is a tutorial where someone shows the entire process with someone who has thick, long hair. Usually people who blow dry or even straighten their hair do 4 sections and boom they're all done (same with curling), even if their hair is longer than yours simply because they have thin hair. It does not take no 10-15 minutes for us girls with that thick hair, and once we get it done we don't dare wash it for a couple days afterwards lol

      I have that kind of hair, and it gets tangled so easily. I can untangle it in the morning and it will be tangled in 5 minutes. It is honestly the most annoying thing ever. I straighten to prevent tangles, not because I necessarily like straight hair better than curly.

      my hair is quite thick and wavy, it's getting tangled 5 mins after i brush them. they end up in a pony of a bun 24/7 because i can't deal with them :(
      but still, when i really really spend time, like 45 mins at least, taking care of them and styling them i try my best to work with their natural texture, not straight or curly, just natural wave, because the natural texture is usually what suits you the best.
      I could straight them every day but it's just really bad and long and damaging, even with heat protectant.

    I have crazy frizzy, curly, wavy, thick, coarse hair. It is even thicker than yours. I just tried this method and it took me about an hour and I still have some frizz at the roots to the point where I will touch it up with a straightener just in those spots. But, my hair has never felt better! It has just the right amount of volume, it feels so soft it is ridiculous! Just the softness is enough to go through the hour long drying process. Love it! Thank you so much!!!

    Who's got the time for all that, plus eventually all that heat will effect your hair, plus you make it look so simple, mine never turns out like that. So after lots of disappointing Brazilian blow drys, many....I found the Japanese Yoko straightening and after 8 months its the best thing ever. I wake up, brush and go. Although some of the new hairs are a bit fuzzy, it has saved me so much grief and time. I would highly recommend it. I'm in my 40s and my hair is thick and grows long very quickly, I chop it shoulder length and in a year its down my waist. So to have come across the Yoko it has saved me so much grief.

Took about an hour but got great, salon quality results!! Will invest in the ceramic brushes you used. Thank you for making this video and for showing me how to hold the brush so that the ends flip back and give the wind blown effect I have been looking for and not just flipping the ends under like a lot of other people which I feel looks a bit outdated. This is exactly what I was looking for!

  • @nailsbylaurey

    You guys, this is so much easier than you think.
    I'm from South Africa and literally everyone I know dries their hair this way, no matter what texture they have. All you have to do is part it evenly :) It takes a lot less time to dry than taking chunks of hair, and taking smaller pieces will also reduce frizz, actually, it totally eliminates frizz because you aren't trying to drag a brush through a thick chunk of hair while blasting hot air on it. Give it a try and thank me later :)
    Oh and like if you're watching this in 2016 lol! :D

      So i have never done this, i always just straighten my hair but i really want to give this a try...i just worry about the frizziness:/ because i have poofy wavy hair.
      Can you just use a regular brush? the last time I used one of those curling brushes it got stuck it my hair and I really don't want to go through with that again.

    • @nailsbylaurey
      @nailsbylaurey 8 лет назад

      +HelenKom Skaikru A round brush is actually best. You can try with a regular brush too, but you won't really get the same result as you would with a round brush. When you're blow drying your hair with the round, curling brush, you don't actually have to rotate the brush as you're running it through your hair. Just keep the brush under the piece of hair with the hair dryer on top and just pull it down straight and maybe just give the brush a slight inward tilt when you get to the end so that you've got a nice curl at the ends.

    OMG i watched this vid two years ago. now i blow dry my hair all the time and ive totally got the hang of it. i can get my blow-out to look sort of like hers. BUT IT TAKES FOREVER (1 hour+). I have extremely curly and soft hair, but mine is not frizzy unless i try to brush the curls out. for those of u who are wondering how carli got the brush to easily go through her hair.....the glossing Fekkai creme probably made it less static-y and easy to comb through. u gotta put product in your hair to make it easy to work with. trust me, ive been there. I use the organix argan oil and some normal coconut oil (for those of you who do not want to spend ur money of unnatural and expensive products).

    I'm a guy with big curly hair. I really try the best I know how to at least tame it. It seems hopeless to get it manageable. And to get it like yours just seems even more like a dream. My current struggle is trying to keep it at least from dreading. My hair gets into knots so much. It's insane. It really frustrates me. I really need tips on even getting started with this. • @martaawad4350

    While Carli shows great techniques for straightening hair, lets be mindful that curly hair can be just as beautiful. For all the commenters here posting things like "Loling @ the white girls with naturally smooth and straight hair telling her to leave it natural. Do they even know what happens to curly hair when it's humid or how much work it is to make it look decent???!!?!?!?!?!?!?!???!" and "Preach it! Mine is up all the time because it's so difficult to style and maintain 24/7", stop saying curly hair is hard to manage. I have very curly hair, it takes me less then ten mins to style and it lasts the whole day. Some styles take 20 minutes for a night out. Just because YOU don't know how to manage it doesn't mean its unmanageable. Just like straight haired girls, it takes a good hair cut, products and style. I promise any curly hair can be "tamed".

    • @coryo2485
      @coryo2485 9 лет назад

      I agree with you about it basically takes practice and finding the right way to tame the curls, but disagree as well. All curly hair is different for two people just like straight hair. Some people no matter what they do, nothing works to tame it or manage it (straight or curly) like my mom ( hers is frizzy, curly, poofy and course dried out no matter what she does...though she leaves it because well she works a job were her hair is mostly up and she don't care lol). Some girls just may not like curly on them as some girls will not like having straight hair on them. Its all in a individuals desire as to what they like and dislike. So yeah it can be tamed and managed but myself I like straight better on me than my natural. All about what someone prefers.
