The choreography for SHINee's "Good Evening" is very deliberate. The reason the choreography is like that is because it depicts them going through the grieving process -- showing the 5 stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance -- and it tells the story of all the emotions they went through during the previous 6 months since Jonghyun's death, and how, now at the end, they have made the choice to continue on as a group and keep on running, etc. The choreography is really complex and beautiful and really fits the song well. Once you start to understand the story behind it all, you can see the story being told through the choreography.
Fun fact: the choreographer for SHINee's "Good Evening" was the choreographer by Sugwara Koharu, who was featured in Taemin's "Move" MV, as well as several of Taemin's other songs, such as Want," "Flame of Love," "Sayonara Hitori" and "Criminal," etc. She is a famous Japanese choreographer who has known SHINee for years, so it was really special she was able to work on this project because she was so intimately involved in SHINee's lives and she was also grieving Jonghyun's loss, so it was a healing moment for her as well.
As SM's experimental boy group, SHINee is constantly reinventing the Kpop industry. You will never see or hear the same thing, even on the same album. And with every new song release they are expected to come up with something new in both song and dance that has never been seen or heard before, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song and dance style will be. So when SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suite. It is said that within 3 months of SHINee coming out with a new song and choreography, you will see and hear that style being reflected in all the comebacks from every group, both boy groups and girl groups. So, after more than 12 years, SHINee has pretty much done it all, and yet, they still manage to set the bar even higher each time. I can't wait to see what they create with their next comeback in the beginning of next year. :D

Sugawara Koharu didn't know Shinee for years, she only really knew Taemin when she was asked to choreograph Good Evening. She said in an interview she even avoided looking up the group and waited/wanted to meet and get to know them first before creating anything. I think you're confusing Koharu with Rino Nakasone, who has known them since pre-debut since she choreographed Replay (as well as several other Shinee songs).

What I really love about this choreo is it really reflects the lyrics but doesn't necessarily do what you expect. I think it starts very slowly because I think it's supposed to kind of represent that depression they were in. To me the choreo kind of represents the stages of grief but the end it's kind of showing acceptance and that they are depending on each other to get through it all and at the end it's like, "Yes, we are still Shinee. We are still 5. We aren't going anywhere." It's beautiful in so many ways.

Yes! This dance practice is fabulous, I love how all the members have their own style but even though they’re induviduals it’s still such a collective effort and SHINee really understands how to get the best out of their team. You guys make my day talking about SHINee and I absolutely loved Ola’s analysis! Thankyou so much for reacting to this, you guys are fabulous as always! Stay safe and keep working hard! It doesn’t go unappreciated or unnoticed, love you guys!

Sugarawa Koharu only knew Taemin (since she had worked with him) when she was asked to choreograph Good Evening; she admitted she only vaguely knew he was from a group but didn't know much of Shinee otherwise. She avoided looking them up at first, wanted to wait to meet them and get to know them before creating anything.
Fun fact: Shinee's leader Onew (yellow hoodie) was her main inspiration for the choreography of Good Evening. You can read her thought process on how GE's dance came to be here: mobile.twitter.com/mredwardsanders/status/1007638252700889090

I love the song, I love the dance and I loved your beautiful reaction to it. I was so happy when Koharu said, that she would give Shinee a choreography in which they would be able to concentrate on semselves. She said she did it, because she saw that they were always working so hard on stage. In her opinion they deserved a more relaxed routine, where they can express semselves more freely

The choreo really also connects to the story in the MV. It is rumored to be about the 5 stages of grief, and the last stage is Acceptance hence them having explosive energy towards the end of the song

I wanted to share a bit here...I agree with @KS in respect to this choreo reflecting the stages of grief SHINee, as extremely close brothers in a sense, felt after losing Jonghyun...{{Jonghyun will go on through eternity though...he's still with us in our hearts and minds}}...Also, I want to add, if anyone hasn't laid this on the proverbial table as well, I feel there is a close resemblance to Taemin's 2 Kids choreo here...quite the same in the movements that seem to say, *I don't ever wanna dance again*...but the performance must go on...with the Shawol's and their families support and encouragement...SHINee will live on!!! Thank you soooo much for your reaction...love everything you do

Taemin introduced Koharu to SHINee. She based the choreo on Onew - he was so relaxed. And then she thought, SHINee are amazing dancers so what if we made everyone wait... She (or Rino??) really want Onew to try contemporary dance, to which I say Yes. SHINee comeback soon11

I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with 112 a 90s American r&b group but the chorus samples their song Cupid and I remember the first time I heard it I was like WHY does this sound sooo familiar? Was very happy when I figured out who they sampled lol
