    Oh Brenda, how i love your 1st's!! I was raised on a Dairy &Cattle Farm... we raised everything we ate... geound our own flour, only thing we shopped for was 50lb bags of sugar, and later flour... i had clothes made from feed, flour & sugar sacks, made cheese, bread,everything... had my 1st soda around age 12... never had bagged bread [store bought] until my 20's ... my kiddos didn't as well until they were 5,6,7,12...
    We left the farm sorta, for my husbands moves and career... yet i always managed to have a garden and some chickens, and made most things from scratch...
    As always, life happens, we ran a group home, and all our children learned the old ways from me- including how to fix the tractor or cars, or whatever...
    Now 61 & 69 we are still on the farm, and as our parents [his- both Dementia and other horriffic diseases have now died] are gone... we've now decided to become Market Farmers... getting a CatTunnel and learning all those 1st's and creating our Farmstand [which , is how I found your channel]... its such the adventure...
    Those who say we're to old to do this, seem to not realize our families did this to the day they died... no where in Gods word does it talk about retitement... plus, while our bodies age, it helps keep our hearts, mind and body in working order.😉
    Thank you for sharing!
    Blessings ❤

      It sounds like you've had an amazing life. I wish I had known how to do many of these things earlier, but I just wasn't raised knowing those things. My mom couldn't wait to get off of the farm and didn't want anything to do with farming. Unfortunately, our family ate a lot of prepared/processed foods while I was growing up. I'm glad that I can be teaching my grandkids about growing food and eating things made from scratch. You are very right about using our bodies and minds as we get older. We are going to keep doing this as long as we are able. It's a great way to live. Best of luck with your farmstand!!!

    You have definitely made a success of your YT channel. So close to 10K! Come on people, subscribe! Your farm looks so lovely, and you have made such a beautiful showplace. The care you take to raise your food and gardens mindfully shows. The natural wildflowers for your bees especially. The fact that your family has joined you on the farm and kids and grandkids learning too means you are building a legacy too. Congratulations and hug Ruby for me.

    LOL, that was awesome Brenda. You both are the key to your success. I can tell by your buildings, your grounds, gardens and orchards as well as the root cellar, that your organizational skills allow you to put your newly acquired knowledge into useful practice. Your videos have always been informative and inspiring and you are really paying back for all that you had learned on RUclips by giving your valuable information to others. Keep 'em coming!

    We also bought a farm as we transitioned out of a career in our 60s (chiropractic office). This is just our first full year, and we are learning TONS! We have a very busy farm stand store, bakery, fields and we also sell produce from others. We were hitting our stride when I fell and broke my wrist - surgery yesterday. So...learning even more! Thanks for an encouraging video.

    We’re also new to homesteading and farming. Never in a million years did I think I was going to butcher 300 chickens. Nor did I think our children would be elbows deep in all aspects of farming as well. We don’t have cattle yet just pigs, hens and meat chickens. Cannot wait for beef and dairy! Love your channel.

      Wow, you jumped right into it....300 chickens??? We're thinking about meat birds, but first we'd need to build a chicken tractor for them. It is great to have your own beef....yum!! Thanks for the encouragement.

      @@waardenburgfamilyfarm4764what do you use for electrifying your cattle fence? We are using solar panels but I’ve heard cattle need high high voltage, more than a solar panel can provide.

    • @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764
      @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764  2 месяца назад +1

      @@megb683 we use traditional electrified fencing wire. Our entire farm is ruin on electricity produced by our solar panels. We actually produce more electricity than we use so we feed back to the grid and get a check from the electric company. We have videos about the solar systems if you're interested.

    I started gardening at 60, but I remember my parent's gardens in Nebraska. I needed to learn about Tennessee clay and timing that is two grow zones from my childhood. Now at 71 I want more garden space, some cattle, hogs and to make hay! I have 9 chickens which is over our limit for where we live. I'm ready to move to more land, bigger kitchen and a root cellar. God bless y'all and keep growing.

    Brenda you are amazing! I was wondering if you will ever get to tell us what you did with your lavender that you dried? You had it hanging on your greenhouse shelves and took it down before starting seeds. My lavender is in bloom right now.

      I never had time to do anything with last year's harvest. It's dried and in a glass container waiting for me to turn it into something. I hope to do that before fall. I'm already harvesting this year's lavender.

    What was the deciding factors in moving to a farm????

    • @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764
      @waardenburgfamilyfarm4764  2 месяца назад +1

      Since I wanted chickens and needed more space to garden we were looking for a property with a little more space. (like 4-5 acres) The 40 acre farm came about because our daughter saw it and suggested that the whole family could wind up living there. It was in a great location, price was right and we were crazy enough to make the jump. 😁 So far our daughter has built a house on the farm and our sons might also do the same. It was definitely the right decision for our family.
