Even in a non-combat sport like tennis, it is very difficult to apply what you know under pressure. I know a lot about tennis, I can see many things when I watch other people play, but when I play the things are different. I guess that is my small comment.
That's true. I like to play chess and too often get caught with tactics I know. And that is not even physical... But I think in fighting it's a bit worse since you are getting damaged and might get KO'd if you don't turn things around
@@matheuscerqueira7952 yeah, I play chess as well. In a blitz game where you have 30 seconds left, most of what you studied is gone. Forget about opposition and triangulation and trebuche
Who is your favourite fighter to demonstrate high level fight IQ? I'm very impressed by Canelo right now. He fights, gives away rounds, collects data and then lands the KO.
Why im actually impressed by paul selling that body feint, with the eyes, to land a solid knock out, in his 5th fight. I dont know about knock out clauses, there's alot of weak points in his game, and im no fan, still want to see him get worked over by a real boxer, but that impressed me, and made me think he could actually go far. Really, a solid loss, and actually sticking with it, would be great for that kid
I feel the same way. I hope he is humbled even if that is not something that is shown to the public. That way, he can keep his head on straight. At first I took him as a joke, but like you said, he looks really good in the ring. Aaaaand he is bringing excitement to the sport of boxing. Good for him.
Like him or loathe him...he’s phenomenally successful already, and really DOES bring more eyeballs to boxing 🥊 I’m just still waiting for him to actually box a boxer, that’s all. It DOES make a massive difference. As powerful and tough as Woodley is? He’s no boxer...and years of muscle memory in other disciplines? Hmmm. That’s very hard to ‘unlearn’. Let’s see this Tommy Fury bout. If he beats Fury I will be extremely impressed...I personally don’t see it 🤷♂️
@@paulpelle3046 the only umbrage I'll take is with successful "already". Kid's a specimen with Disney level access to kgb steroids, hes shown some training has stuck, and that rights a baseball bat. I like the attention its bringing, but its time to take training wheels off, and see if the design can keep rolling. Hopefully we see him and fury go inside of the spring

This is one my favorite videos you've produced 💯...I love your point on DEVELOPING a style, intentionally....this is some I see lacking in US gyms, as most fighters either follow the style taught or gravitate to the single thing they do well..... I believe this process enables you to more effectively analyze your opponents and not just rely on your corner/trainer
I love these videos about being a smarter fighter and developing your own style. Techniques are great, but these kinds of videos are the absolute gold!
I imagine when you restrict yourself like you mentioned with the body hook example. It helps the newer fighter too. Fantastic way to help the new guys build .
Phenomenal advice! Not just for boxing MMA and kickboxing but I am looking for good info on fight IQ for my children who wrestle in high school and to me this is valuable information that also works with the wrestling combat sport! I really liked that you don't just mimic your favorite fighter or your coach. Know your weaknesses and your strengths to develop your God-given talent. We are not all created equal!
1. Fight intelligence, not only when you´re in the fight but in your preparation to get in a fight, and the most important is when you are in the cage and make adjustments. You can watch your opponent footage but it´s not enough. 2. The highest fight IQ is when you are hit and start making adjustments, and you can go to completely losing a fight to winning a fight all with your brain. 3. the legends have something in common. They aren´t ko`ing everyone especially early in the fights, the take their time to gather opponent information and then from there they start mounting their domination of the fight. 4. one way we can develop fight iq is experience. Don´t fight with anyone that has a lot of fights than you, probably they have a fight iq better than yours. 5. Develop your style. Know your strengths and weaknesses. When training in the sparring, give yourself restrictions and goals. 6. Train shadow boxing. You doing this you constantly engage your brain making yourself a smarter fighter.
Chess, nothing improves your ability to plan ahead than chess, because chess isn't individual moves, it's strategy. Like Bruce Lee said, "You think a fight is one blow, one kick?! Until you can put combinations together without even thinking, and you learn to keep moving, and to endure, hire a bodyguard or lead a less aggressive lifestyle".
Really superb video Gabriel. Such great tips...and that one about even imagining being hit and how you’ll respond? Brilliant sir 👌 Bottom line: NOTHING will adequately prepare you for fighting in the ring...until you’ve fought in the ring! But consciously focusing on great habits from the beginning? That’s pure gold 🙏
Fighting without thought is the highest level of mastery. Mu shin, or ‘no mind’ is where reaction times are parallel with attacks from opponents. Also combining mush-in with kenkudaki and kedikudaki will make a literally perfect defense.
Can you talk about how to keep the composure when you’re fighting and when you’re getting hit ? Please. I guess it has to be with breathing but I’m not sure.
In my first amateur fight i went against a guy with 16 amateur fights and 2 pro. He had 7 kg over me. I lost on points and only got rocked once. My second fight is in a few days
Is it more difficult to imagine an opponent/fight especially thinking when shadow boxing than it is during the fight or sparring? I feel like I can fight better and think better when not shadow boxing.
Hi Gabriel, do you have a course recommendation when it comes to figh IQ? I have been training kickboxing in Netherlands now for over a year (training 3x per week) and would like to improve my fight IQ / technique
A lot of fight IQ comes from the brain. The brain, like the rest of the body, needs oxygen to function. Brain and muscles share a limited oxygen supply. The less oxygen your muscles use, so, the more relaxed you are, the more is available to your brain.
spar with lots of people and see what works and what doesn’t. Against someone your size, do you feel like you can often pressure forward and force them to retreat? Or do you feel like you are good at picking people apart with timing when they charge in head first? What makes you scared? What makes you happy? What makes you uncomfortable? What makes you comfortable?
The best way to improve on your battle is play fight your friends. I have a crazy fight in because I was training with someone who was better fighter then me
You mentioned that it is better to learn fight IQ in the ring but that there are ways to train for it in the gym so that when you get to the ring that you will fight more intelligently. I have been training really hard for the last few years and I have not stepped into the ring. Fighting intelligently is important to me and something I feel driven to make part of my style. What are some ways I can improve my fight IQ specifically, that will make my first experiences in the ring as best as possible?
@A l p h e u s lol. I guess Tyron taking the fight was high i.q - he's never made so much money getting knocked out in his life. It's worth it to him. Can't blame him
Not necessarily brain injury doesn't actually have an impact on intelligence but it can slow your ability to retain information if you have been knocked out enough times
@ninjapirate123 I have quite extensively actually and you are still wrong fighting can lower Iq in under adolescents however for adults no study has proven such a claim one study however did prove if you get concussed enough it changes how your brain operates but the average fighter is very unlikely to get concussions in the first place where as if you refer to the nfl or even minor leagues most of them have some form of CTE you'll hardly see the same results in the minor leagues of boxing
@ninjapirate123 and who decided that your word goes? Coffee, all I know is that you ate just another fool on the Internet. I'd rather do my own research. Which I have, and you are wrong.😂
