  • Dr. Robert Richmond joined Wake Up 2Day to answer a few questions about the radioactive wastewater dump. Dr. Richmond is a marine biologist and a UH-Manoa research professor with over four decades of experience on such matters. He was one of five on an independent panel of consultants to the Pacific islands due to their global expertise on nuclear issues pertaining to marine life. This panel of experts unanimously decided that that this plan to release the wastewater should be tabled for now, until it can be reasonably assumed to not be detrimental to marine life across the Pacific.

You obviously don't even know what is tritium. Tritium combined with phosphor is use to create luminescence. The light source does not require electricity or electrical wiring, such as for exit signs, emergency lighting in commercial buildings and airplanes and for airport runway lights. Tritium is also naturally produced in the earth's upper atmosphere and comes down to the surface by way of rain. You got some tritium on you whenever you got caught out in the rain.

The nuclear sewage will reach the coast of North America 1,200 days later and cover almost the entire North Pacific Ocean. Among them, the most polluted is the United States. Fukushima is located at the confluence of the warm current of Japan and the cold current of Thousand Islands, and most of the pollutants will spread eastward (that is, the direction of the United States) along with the warm current of the North Pacific Ocean.

I think everyone agrees that this unprecedented change in global average temperatures is primarily due to human activity. I hate how people use the argument that the climate is always changing, because it’s true and we already know that. We are directly causing these drastic changes, and we cannot quickly adapt to them. The planet will be fine, and nature and the ecosystem will continue to develop and adapt, but it’s not the same for humans.
