Yeah, I have this problem with the Switch too. The interface is overall cleaner, easier to understand, and faster which makes it more convenient.
But they had to sacrifice their Nintendo Charm to make it happen.
The 3ds interface isn’t even that hard to understand and still has charm
The absence of Iwata and Reggie is really showing… they were what made Nintendo great. Also I subscribed, I really love videos like these that are informative but funny at the same time. Keep up the good work!
I don’t like to mention Iwata in that manner just out of respect, but I can definitely agree to an extent.
I’m glad you enjoyed, though! Thank you for the kind words.
I hate it because you're right. I spent a lot of time with the Wii U and the 3DS in the run-up to the eShop closure, and moving from that to the soulless sterility of the Switch is such a tonal backlash that it's actually painful. ZERO effort. It's like all of Nintendo charm of personality died with Iwata.
i never really thought about how bare bones the switch is. most of nintendos previous consoles, esp the 3DS, had so many things to do without a game. i honestly love the switch noises and it would've been really cool to have minimalistic music with those sounds
For one, I completely agree with your comment, but this is also a really cool coincidence! I watched your Wii Sports video a few months ago and was super impressed! Glad to see you’ve got more videos up now and that you managed to run into my channel as well!
@@Chipss @Chipss yes hahaha I subbed when u commented and ive watched some of your other vids in the meantime. a lot of interesting topics, most of which I agree with. glad u remembered my vid and thank u!!
Scientific research has proven that the sense of smelling and sense of hearing trigger more memory side of the brain when compared to the visual images
I definitely believe that. Some video game music seriously brings back memories for me, and I’m sure a lot of other people too.
High school me checked the weather on the Wii…..
That's actually some underrated stuff m8
Thank you! :)
11:18 Ah, one of the few.. "tunes" the Switch menu does have.. and I hate it. A high annoying whistle or flute thing. They should make something with the Wii Mii Maker soundfont instead. 😌
I guess Nintendo thought their "charm" had to be one of the reasons for the Wii U's failure so they scrapped that as well. At least the Switch is way faster when it comes to booting games. But I do miss the Wii U's menu style and music. The 3DS even had nice little apps to record sounds or make photos as well as Streetpass Mii Park/Plaza, and the DSi used to have Flipnote Studio. I miss those days.
Nintendo still has charm with the switch
You may want to consider elaborating instead of just stating your claim with no further information.
@@Chipss the games prove that the charm is still intact so I don't need to back up my climb your just gaming's complaining about nothing
That’s not true because wii,3ds and ds were all charming consoles and they were huge successes, Nintendo is just being greedy now
@@onlywiigame. I personally imagine that it was a combination of cost effeciency, design moving towards flat and simplified design, and wanting to move on from the Wii U's reputation specifically. The Wii U (which I dearly love personally) was seen by many as out of date, clunky and childish, and I think the Switch was the direct answer to all of these. They wanted a console that feels as adult (= boring), modern (= flat) and fast/effecient (okay this is not something I can make a salty diss of any sort about, this last bit is an objective improvement) as possible, so they essentially went opposite day on the Wii U which meant sacrificing much of their soul. Part of me hopes that now that they're in the clear again they'll return to the glory of their past UIs, but the cynic in me imagines that now that they know they can get away with essentially Google Docs documents for menus they'll never risk the effort again
Also you earned a sub. This is genuinely content that I would expect from someone with at least 100k+ subscribers, the fact you have less than 1k is criminal. Keep up the good content.
Wow, thank you so much!
Not sure if this falls under the flat design stuff but both the interface of Mii Maker and the Mii models themselves(!) look different (in terms of shading) when you compare Wii U and Switch.
I had never noticed that, good eye
The eshop has never felt so flatttt, browsing on my 3DS looking at games i couldn’t buy while also jamming out has never felt so missed
this video has way less views then i thought when i clicked, damn this is quality
Gotta simplify my profile picture now.
Another great video
11:13 I want to clip that so badly ;-; But I can´t, thanks YT
Switch just feels like the most depressing console ever
Felt like I was the only one who noticed, great vid. 👍
You should make more videos about level design and smbx. I learned a lot from you. So you should continue those videos.
In terms of the content I like to make, I’ve honestly moved past videos like that. I also really don’t feel that I have anything else to offer in terms of level design advice, at least at the moment. You can watch some of my “Creating the Best Sequel” videos or the multiple other game design analysis videos I have up so far. They have a lot to offer in terms of game design advice and insight as well. In fact, the next video is going to be another “Creating the Best Sequel.” Videos like this one (the one you’re commenting on) aren’t the only type of ones I make nowadays. If you’re still looking for more, I do SMBX level design over on my Twitch almost every Thursday as well. Feel free to drop by there if you’re interested in any more insight. I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, but I believe I’m better than most lol. Thanks for watching regardless!
@@Chipss Alrighty!
@@Chipss By the way, it really helped me. Your smbx episodes also used 4-step level design.
@@nostreamgia Glad it helped! 4-Step design is very easy to use but super powerful.
@@Chipss why didn't you play the DSi memories my favorite Nintendo console song cuz my DSI XL Blues battery broke like 7 years ago when I was seven now I'm 14 still haven't gotten over it
I have three switches and agree, I have 5 kids and we get alot more enjoyment from the Wii U. The switch is OK, but at the cost of a better console and a dedicated handheld? It’s tragic.
Another banger.
👍🔥
Anybody else angry that growing up you never had the money to buy a wii u or 3ds until they finally ripped the services away from us? And now you just want to beat your fist into the floor until it bleeds?
Actually I think the oversimplification in software started when Microsoft released Windows 8 in 2012 with a flatter and squareish style compared to the other recent versions of Windows at that time.
Did not realize Windows 8 released before iOS7! Nice catch.
I really enjoyed this one.
You better not forget me when you reach a million bro
This is what I have been saying for years! Thank you!
I swear if Nintendo got rid of the theme shop I swear💢
The switch does have soul and still.has a lot of charm it
Trust me it got worse
The Nintendo Switch has no soul. It's full of half hearted ports. The interface is so boring. I miss interesting designs like the GBA and GBA SP.
Get some views man I wanna see you do better
Based
thank you for this astounding compliment
