Bike/ped separation could be better, and I agree it would be nice if bikes had priority at the lights. Still an improvement on the strip of paint at the side of the road though. More please!
Not only do they stick you in the middle of the Road, between the two fastest lanes, but they offer you no protection of any kind from these automobiles. All that Yellow and Green made Me think I was in Australia.
Well, the real test is: Can you ask your kid (8 years old) to hop on his bicycle and buy a litre of milk real quick. When kids can cycle here without supervison then it's a new milestone.
Sad to see you keep insisting to go it alone. Rather than looking to Denmark or the Netherlands, seems you NEED to install inferior bike infrastructure. At a higher price, creating accident hot spots! WELL DONE UK!!!
My country and the United States think that they need to innovate and come up with weird quirky new projects, even though all these things have been worked out already for decades by other countries.
@@TrueMathSquare Completely ridiculous cycling path. Not safe and and you need sunglasses for the ugly colours. I would not allow my children to bicycle between cars and trucks. Come to the Netherlands to see good and safe infrastructure. It is not that difficult, but it will cost you money, just like us. But that is the choice to make.
@@henkoosterink8744 I don't like the Netherlands infra. I believe cyclists are drivers and we fear best when treated as drivers of vehicles. Are you judging safety by the feelz or the actual data? I think you are doing it be the feelz. nacto.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Cycle_Tracks_Copenhagen.pdf
Claustrophobic where you have posts on both sides; dreadful where you have traffic on both sides with no protection; curves make it difficult to see what's coming towards you; stripes are off-putting - I'd call this some of the worst so-called cycle [shared with pedestrians] infrastructure I've ever seen.
Lovely, however, can someone grab an angle grinder and some flapwheel discs and take the points off those blasted wooden pillars!?! Why are they there? They will rot, hurt people, obstruct the view of traffic across the roundabout in order to better gauge tragic conditions on different routes, and blocks the cyclist view of the road!
No. It's fine in the wet, the surface is quite course and grippy. It does catch the wind though somehow. Must be the shape of the surrounding buildings or because you are in the middle of the road? But in strong winds this road always feels more concented like you are going to be blown off.
I'd rather stick to the road, I'm constantly faced with people not knowing which side of a cycle lane to use and coming towards me on my side (the left, their right)
Overall. It's nice and impressive. Not as safe as using the roadway as a car would but wow. They really thought it thou to remove mid block intersections and conflicts of them.
I use this path often; and quite like it because that roundabout is one of the most dangerous places I know. Unfortunately all the little trees you can see are now larger and their roots have caused the floor to become quite bumpy. The council fixed it once but soon happened again. The blind corners on the top of the roundabout are no fun. If another cyclist happens to be coming the other way it is always sketchy. The wait times at the lights are too long and not synced well, so you get stopped three times. But in terms of safety from the lorries I am very happy with it.
There are plenty of examples around Europe of tree roots lifting tarmac surfaces of bike paths; they could have learned that one. They never go and learn from the more experienced!
This would have been far better if it had been nearer the kerbs. Not necessarily as wide as long as it was wide enough for upto two bycicle's to pass safely that's all that was needed. But, as others have already mentioned for it being put directly in the middle of the roadway seems very unlogical & still can be dangerous inspite of the traffic signals. (as not all traffic obeys them as we all know this) 😡🙅 The idea is pretty good just the positioning of it is wrong.
So you have about a million pounds to spend on cycling infrastructure and spend it all on a fancy colored lane in the middle of just one road... Could have made proper cycling lanes along 10 streets. Those spiky wooden things... Are they meant to keep cyclist in or agressieve motorists out of this lane?
why couldnt they just remove the median and put segregated paths on each side of the road. i would be riding on the pavement if i happened to go through there. so claustrophobic. this is a right joke what that council did
And they call it a bikepath *hits a wall headon*. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Why is it so colourful? They could have just gone with one solid colour to mark it as a cycle lane

FD2 very good comment. This is THE question you must ask when you start thinking of before investing in Solutions

Cars on both sides, that is not a good idea. This is not safe.
Proof?

its shared use, a very common sight in the uk

how about using the road?
Something along these lines will make massive roundabouts a lot easier to cross in heavy traffic.
Terrible design
Nice use of space
That was short and colorful
