Great to see the 3-D view and get the "big picture"! This may go on for a long time so the lava flows are likely to grow and grow. Thanks for sharing :-)
3D map puts the lava flow into prospective and just shows how far its spread over the valley's. Just amazing to see. Been watching it from Day 1 when Bob first appeared. Just awesome.
If people are stupid enough to get trapped on the hill, then the Icelandic version of firewalking is in order, streamed live! Thank you Rob for your excellent coverage and footage.
I hope some people do get stuck there, and are forced to wait a long time before rescue choppers arrive. And then they should be sent a bill for the cost of the rescue.

I have zero doubt they are prepared for dealing with all that foresee heading their way .. as well as they can be anyway. However, I don't agree with Folks behaving as though it's a given! I also feel they absolutely should pay for their own rescue! Be second in line to anyone whom by no fault of their own are needing rescue! And they should ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY add a huge arse Stupid Tax into the cost of the rescue! Yes, televise it! Please! Just a by the by ... Here in Australia, should we have this situation... our dumbarse government would have made it 100% non accessible by now! ... they don't like our folk having the capability to think for ourselves! So they rid us of any need under the b.s. guise that they're doing it for our own good!🤦♀️🙄😊
I m sure that the government has contingency plans for any evacuation. Also the lava progressing towards the path has slowed and hence cooled. A litter construction activity of dumping rubble and increasing the height of the pathway will solve the problem of connection and access to the best view. Having a sadistic approach does no good to anybody.
Rob: Thanks for the explanation of the 3D map. Very well done. Your videos and this map helps me understand other RUclipsrs descriptions of how / where the lava is flowing! Thanks again! From across the pond in 🇨🇦!!! Stay safe, stay sane, be well
I'm glad to see lava is still flowing into Meradalir (in the Northwest); the less there is flowing into Natthagi means it'll take longer to reach the road
Thank you so much for sharing this and the link to it. Such an amazing tool for those of us half a globe away to be able to experience this beautiful natural wonder unfolding in real time.
The path to the nearest viewing point to the volcano, which people have been mostly using, was overrun with lave at 7 am this morning and this is now inaccessible!
The biggest concern is the fibre optic cable. It's a backbone for the internet, connecting North America with Europe (But not the only one luckily). They have begun laying a new cable 2 meters deep which is apparently enough depth to protect from the heat of the lava when it does come.
That's good to know. The government in Iceland seems very on top of things, which seems much less common here in the US. Still too many thinking, "If it ain't broke, why fix it?" 😕

That 3D view was quite fascinating! I wondered what the authorities were doing about people crossing the warning tape. Yes, they certainly have more pressing things to do than try to stop someone who is determined to win a Darwin Award. Well, the volcano may be "small", but it's certainly large enough for the people who live in its potential path!
Quick update: The path to the second viewpoint (the hill/mountain) is now completely blocked by lava. So happy I got a chance to see it from there before it was blocked.
I can't believe the sheer stupidity and selfishness of man when they ignore instructions to enable their own safety! Anyone stranded on the mountain should be left there for a good few days to learn a lesson and when rescued, make them pay for everyone involved due to their selfishness. The view from trail 'B' is the best and closest. I think that the second lava flow may go both ways and not just join the Natthagì Valley. Just like fire, lava has a mind of its own. I appreciate these 3D views and all information about this eruption. What does it matter if some think it's small, I think it's absolutely fascinating! Thank you so much Rob, Kris.🇦🇺✌
Leave them. They wanna risk it let them go. They were warned. I wouldn’t save stupidity and alow stupidity to walk around society again. Less stupidity the better for all of us common sense people. It’s called a sacrifice.😂🤣💀😭
Thank you so much for doing this video. It has been really hard to be able to put things into perspective & you did it the best way ever, by having a 3D map that showed the hills, the pathways to get from the carpark up to the volcano, & where the volcano is & where the lava is going. Very informative video. Hi from Queensland Australia.
Thanks for showing the new 3D view. New videos from long ridge (higher) look to be best path going forward but it is a longer route. Great 360 degree views but more exposure to weather.
This was excellent! Thank you, and thanks for the good commentary. I've seen video from path B (Gutn Tag's, I think). That videographer said he was going to climb the mountain on the _other_ side of the path A vantage point mount, giving him a higher view of the volcano and a clearer view of the channel from the volcano more clearly.
this is exactly what i have been looking for ..this video is much better than hundreds of videos coming from Iceland I guess most of these people are amateur and just posting a red lava in every single video I understand they are just having fun and sharing their experience but not so much info tho ..please keep us update and thanks a lot
Thank you! Love the 3d map and your commentary! Yes the cute baby volcanos (fissures) are gone and now we have this beautiful monster releasing tons of lava every 5 minutes. 🤯
Brilliant video. I watched the videos of the birth of this whole thing with the 24hr cameras, but then after a while stuff got busy and when I came back the landscape had totally changed and I wasn't sure which way was which. Only recently I started to get the gist again, but this really helped.
I was just going to post something on that. How high are the lowest passes to the north compared to the current lava height in the lava flows to the north? It looks like the 3D maps, viewed at a good angle, have just enough detail to show the critical possible spillover points.
I'm glad there's already a plan B path for when the lava cuts off the original one. Going in 4 weeks and was worried that all of the good views would be inaccessible.
Same for me. We want to come soon, but cannot decide if to go in 2 weeks including quarantine or go in 4 weeks, with completed vaccination. I just cannot decide... its driving me crazy haha. Thank you for the map. Do u think path b will still be accesible at the beginning of july?? I am also "afraid" the volcano will stop erupting 🤪
Excellent video. You did an outstanding job of explaining what the lava is doing and where it’s going. Thank you, and keep producing more videos. I’ve subscribed and look forward to each new installment.

That was a very good explanation of the 3d views and the context around it. One thing I noticed is that there's no new lava going down the valleys from the northernmost vents 'Flo' and friends into Meredalur North. Which means that it'll be possible to go around the northern cones and walk across cold lava and get onto that hill with the scientific instruments on it, which is as close as the Spectator hill, but not likely to get closed off unless the northern vents reawaken.
There are lava flow to the north side through some kind of 'tunnel'. Gutn Tog filmed it recently and very distinguished when late on the day (though not in the dark).

Nice job man it's really good to to see what potential it has. Maybe they can dam it up really good down in that lower valley before you get to the road you could make several small dams so that instead of really just damning up the whole valley or anything you just kind of slow up portions of it but low enough that it won't back up in the higher lake.
I am afraid the lava already has closed the path to the hill you mentioned. Hopefully, no one got stuck there because it has been foggy and nothing to see anyway. Thanks for your videos on the matter. For me who can not walk there because of my arthritis, I rely on my computer to see the eruption.

Very useful for me. I'm flying to Iceland today and plan to visit the volcano over the next 2 days. Hopefully, I get a good view. Safety first.

Thanks Rob for taking time to explain its all fascinating 😀 xx
This is so incredibly helpful. With so many cameras at moraine level, it's much easier to get the big picture from 10,000 feet.
