Wow, that baby is messed up!!!! I have a Arctic Cat 1998 ZRT600 Won't move forward or reverse and I had to chain case open and saw the pins were worn, etc. But I noticed something even more alarming. There are no bolts holding the gears in like you have. The one on the bottom you had to drill a hole in sidewall.......That lower gear has no bolt on mine nor the other one in the middle. Only the top has a bolt in the gear. Do you know if that is the way the 98'ts were made or the previous owner did not tell me about those bolts being missing.
Spike, I'm not sure the answer to your question. Can you tell if the spindle is threaded like a bolt should go in or is too hard to tell? I could easily tell on mine if the bolt were missing for sure. Is it possible the cover is designed to hold them in place? Sorry I don't have good answer for you.
Did you figure out the rubbing noise after you fixed it. I used the knowledge from your video to fix the same issue in my 2002 pantera 800. But have the same concerning noise after the fix.
Your clutch needs a good cleaning at least. When it engages hard like that after switching from forward to reverse it can cause those pins to skip across the holes causing premature failure.
Where did you buy your parts?
Thanks for a great video.
Do you know how to release the tension on the chain without removing the spring like you did?
Can you get the part number for the retainer?

After riding it for a bit the sound went away. The machine was sold shortly after that. Thanks for watching.
