Praying for all who struggle with pornography. At one time in my life, I would fall over and over again with pornography. At one confession, I revealed to a priest that I kept falling with the sin over my pornography. Then the priest suggested that I ask Jesus to show you the way your soul looks. After confession, I did just that. I asked Jesus "how does my soul look?"
Later on, I believe I was given a vision. A man I believed to be Jesus told me this is how a soul looks without pornography. I was then shown a heart with lots of bright light shining forth from it. Then the man I believe to be Jesus told me this is the way your soul looks with pornography before confession. Then I was shown a heart with a lot of black with specks of light shining forth from it. Then the man I thought of as Jesus told me "Take heart, your soul will not look like this forever. The only reason your soul looks like this is because you consume so much pornography between each confession."
Afterwards, when I thanked my confessor about this, he asked me to share this with as many Catholics who struggle with pornography.

I would say it is still leading to a perverted mindset. Whether it is drawn or video/photos, it is still a pornographic object. The intention is the same. And if consumed in the same circumstances as a person would consume regular porn, it is just as bad.

If porn is misogynistic then its misandristic too, as it is degrading to both men and women. And it's not as though the men are the addicts to porn and the women are the ones exploited (in every case). I agree 300% with everything Matt said. But I think the argument is not persuasive. When you watch a tv show about cooking, you usually dont put much thought into the intrinsic value of the cook, if at all. The cook/host is providing a service for you - showing how to cook. People who consume pornography think of porn actors/actresses the same way. It is not intrinsically wrong to provide a service. Now, if there is something wrong with the service itself, you must show why, and its impossible to avoid consequentialism in doing that. The stronger argument would be - and Matt hinted at this - to show that
porn entices lust rather than healthy desire, and that it is intrinsically harmful to yourself and others, as it normalizes dysfunctional lust and objectification of others through habit. It is both a consequentialist argument, and one that shows the intrinsic evil in porn itself (porn cannot, by definition, not be about lust)...

when you watch a cooking show, you want to "use" not the host, but the food that he is preparing. Your atention is totally on the aliment. When you watch a porn, you don't want to use what the person is preparing for you (as it could be in a restaurant, a market etc) but THE PERSON ITSELF. The difference is simple and evident: in the porn, what you wanna use is THE PERSON, in the food show, what you wanna use is the FOOD. You don't care too much, generally, about the chef, sure, but it isn't him that you wanna use, as it is with porn! And that's the problem

But the point was to show how many - maybe the majority - of porn consumers view porn actors and actresses, as mere providers of a service. There´s a huge ideological campaign right now in the mainstream feminist movement with catchphrases like "sex work is real work". They want to dissociate the actual activity from the end goal of that activity, the means from the ends - "porn actresses are just people making money and there´s nothing wrong with making money". So that´s where I took that argument from, and that´s an essential misconception about porn that we need to address... (to be fair its not a misconception, campaigners know exactly what they are doing and they deliberately manipulate the wording they use to fit their political agenda, but we need to bring this awareness to people)

But well, I think that some of those people who claim that it's "just a service" just don't care about participating in something dehumanizing. They know that admiting it fully will imply having to fight bravely their sexual habits, and they think that it's impossible to avoid it. There are some people also that don't perceive it as evil because their heart has already turned into stone, since, in our culture, it became normal to see the other person as a way to achieve your goals, so when you are imersed in a world like that, it appears as something absolutely normal. In that case, the only thing we can do is to show them those arguments (and others) presented in this video and pray for them, lest they become aware of it.

Danny Nyman - my guess is that viewing porn has been a huge motivater for the lechery of "the priests" you speak of, rather than your possibility that it would be prohibitive. The priests, or anyone for that matter are led by the porn into committing the crimes.. Anyone can view porn anytime and anywhere, priests included. Why would you think they couldn't? My guess is that the easy access to all kinds of pornography keeps some people sexually hungry much of the time and creates a vivid imagination world of illicit sex acts that they finally decide to act out in reality. Rather than inhibit, it inflames. An obsessive preoccupation is the result, rather than satiety.
You list all the forms that human sexuality can take. The conclusion that I draw from what you say is that various sex acts are essentially the acts of any animal and are essentially amoral. Since, according to your viewpoint, human beings are basically just another kind of animal acting on instincts, that any kind of sexual activity is "normal" and should be seen without a "judgement" being made about the specific form it takes. That it's all OK. Do you really think so?

Todd, what kinds of things have you already tried to break away from porn? Here are a few things you could try in case you haven't already:
- Use an internet filter to block porn from your devices (Covenant Eyes is a great one)
- Block all other ways you have of accessing porn (get rid of sex toys and magazines, get a cell phone without internet access if you need to, etc.)
- Find someone you can trust to be your accountability partner: someone you tell every time you watch porn. Someone who will encourage you to keep trying and who will challenge you.
- join a porn accountability group or some other men's group that meets regularly in person who you can share your struggles with.
- seek a professional counselor (it will likely be pricey, but if it helps you quit porn, it's worth it)
