I'm glad there are videos like this for the younger generation. I want to include something and I don't mean it to be taken the wrong way. When I was growing up in the 1990s most of the biracial girls I knew had white mothers and I noticed a big difference between how they were raised and how they felt about themselves. They had a lot of insecurities because of the hair situation. They wanted hair textures like their mothers and didn't know how to do their own hair. Their mothers didn't know how to do their hair and didn't even ask for help from black or biracial women with similar textures. The girls went to school trying to do their hair like their mothers and it wasn't a good look plus it brought out more of their insecurities. I had friends who told me how hard it was for them because they knew their mothers loved them but that their mothers were also oblivious to a lot of things. We have had these discussions since we all got older. The new generation is embracing everything which is great. They are understanding that there are differences and it's OK to acknowledge them and ask for help.
Yes! I know that can be a reality for biracial children and I want to make sure I facilitate a healthy relationship with her natural hair and make sure she knows that's she's beautiful and how to take care of her hair so that it doesn't feel like a burden.
You make a great point! 👍 Learning to help these beautiful girls care properly for the unique needs of their hair is important. This video was very informative. I think preschool teachers, nannies and baby sitters should learn more about caring for hair too. I could have used the information long ago. We need to understand other hair types, not just our own.
I agree, but the same thing was happening with full black children. I was a kid in the 90’s, and practically every one and their mama had a relaxer or perm. Being natural all your life was rare until the natural hair movement gave all of us courage to go against our mothers wishes, embrace what got gave us, and pass that down to our own children. The interesting part is a lot of mom’s were against being natural because it went against the mind set they had about hair (can’t blame them), but now our mothers are embracing their natural hair as well. I’m so grateful that more and more people are seeing that perms and relaxers aren’t the only choice, and our natural hair is beautiful too.
I'm biracial and I hated my hair so much growing up. I tied it in a tight, small bun on the top of my head every day and was a super insecure kid. I also lived in a white community and didn't have my black father figure in my life, just a single, white mother. It wasn't until college that I took the bun out and my friends complimented my hair and I started watching videos and experimenting with my hair. Slowly but surely I became much more confident in myself and my hair grew long and healthy. Hair is so important when it comes to people's confidence and I am happy to see parents taking the time to understand hair differences.
When my kids were little they attended Gymboree. One of the moms was white and she and her husband adopted a black daughter. As I got to know her I suggested a hair salon and told her about a Mocha moms group near her. She embraced the group and loved the help. We lost touch after my family moved out of state.
Omg so jealous their daughters hair is curly with texture ! My baby’s (7 years old) hair is all dads silky 😓 boringggggg I wanted to do puff balls and use my design essentials. 😔 killed my plans and dreams.
@@lia1094 You can still do puff balls. Put the hair in the two ponytails, then use rollers to curl the ends. Once the style is set, take the rollers out and fluff the curls. There are kid-friendly products out there (you'll have to do some research) and maybe even a youtuber that can give you some ideas/tips. Don't be discouraged - where there is a will, there's a way. 😊

This was a great tutorial. Good job Cody! I love Autumn's natural hair color and hope she never changes it; she's so lovely. One suggestion though, while washing and rinsing her hair try using a cut pool noodle to help support her neck.

This is so sweet. I love seeing when the other parent gets involved in taking care of their kids. So many people get intimidated but it's like, that's your child. Get your hands on there and learn lol
Very informative. I work at Walmart. I am white. Another white person (male) came in and asked me what he needed to buy for African American hair. I had no clue. Now I do! Thanks.
Oh my god~ is she a sweet girl I smiled through the whole video. Always glad to see when fathers invest themselves rather than just bringing home money and leave everything else for the mother ♡
What a great dad he is!! This is so inspiring to see how Cody was willing to learn so he could style his daughter's hair. I love seeing dads involved in the everyday stuff of their kids. My dad wasn't involved in the "everyday" stuff, that was my "Mum's job". So glad to see the new generation of dads breaking the "old school dad molds".

This brings back memories of doing my daughter's hair when she was little. The front of her hair was almost just a wavy curl. The crown was thecurliest and the nape was fairly curly too. Autumn is beautiful.
I don't know what it is about seeing a father do his daughter's hair that always brings tears to my eyes, but it just does. Such a loving gesture. I was a daddy's girl, but I don't think my dad would have ever spent that much time and effort on my hair. You did a great job dad and mom too, explaining so patiently. The results are gorgeous! ♥
I know it's a lot of work, but can I say that I so appreciate the attention to detail in not only ensuring her hair is properly combed out, but that she experiences as little pain as possible?
