Latifah one of the few rappers who aged gracefully and respectfully. Transitioned and stayed relevant plus my son sees her at his job in Home Depot often 🤣
This is an amazing show... I bought all of these artists music when I was young. So interesting to learn from the people who made it happen... Salutes from Canada.
I've watched all of these episodes and this is some of the best content you'll find anywhere about hip-hop. You're a great interviewer and Dante Ross is a legend. Great work! 👍🏽✌🏽
45 King disappeared off the scene going into the 90s. His drug addiction was probably part of the reason. If he stayed on the scene then he would have stayed more relevant. He made a great comeback with Jay Z tho getting a huge hit when Hip Hop was going platinum.
this podcast is fire. since common dropped the album with Pete rock, it made me look into Pete rocks catalog with cl smooth and I became the biggest fan and was trying to figure out what happened with them so I was happy y'all talked about that. and I look forward to watching the rest of the episodes to learn some hip hop history
DJ Cheese, from Plainfield, NJ, won the DMC Battle for Supremacy contest in 1986 and is also credited for introducing scratching and turntablism to the competition.
- Grand Wizard Theodore (accidentally) invented scratching in 1975. - Grand Master Flash was the first person to scratch on a record in 1981. - Grandmaster DST was the first person to scratch on television, performing "Rockit" with Herbie Hancock at the 26th Grammy Awards in 1984. - DJ Cheese was the first person to scratch in a DJ battle at the 1986 DMC DJ Battle.
People may think they know all they'll ever need about Hip-Hop, maybe into the conventional narratives. But there are magic stories like these that the masses have yet to have cross their ears.
Dude that is sick..! Set It Off indeed damn man I’m loving this 45 King talk major props Dante represent straight up, never heard any talk on this guy very interesting man & I agree he’s extremely obscure and doesn’t get reconized enough if at all.
Also a bugged out coincidence about Dante Ross being a major factor in putting Brand Nubian on considering the fact that they label White People as the Devil.
Pete was and is to this day my favorite part of that group and the album he did with Daddy Rich Dust to Dust is ill and you.could tell he learned something from his earlier struggles in the studio pre 3rd Bass.. I listen to it all the time. The contention was they were solo, Serch would have never been signed as a solo rapper, his schtick with wanting to overcompensate being down and highlighting he had a Black girl was like pandering to me, like whatever good for you, now just rap. Pete had the swag and his vocabulary was ill, he had English Lit degree from Columbia, he knew his shhh and his voice I liked. His verse on Derelict of dialect on the second album to.start that shh off was dope. Serch, IMO didn't want to be in a group, he did it because he had no choice and when he got some shine, that was gonna be the end. His solo record sucked though, Pete's was much better. LOL

These interviews with Dante are like documentaries. This man describes things so vividly. I feel like I experienced it, the way he paints pictures
Dante is a walking book of knowledge as far as Hip Hop. I remember seeing his name on a lot of Hip Hop recordings from way back.

45 king def underrated and had been slighted out of hip hop historical songs
He's produced for countless legends, and he made arguably 2 of the biggest hip hop / pop songs of all time, and so many people have no idea who he is.

His set in '86 is classic. Paved the way.

No Red Alert Played It Fri Or Sat Nite !!! Wrath of My Madness !!! SALUTE !!!
Would love to hear the third base story… truly enjoying all of the episodes!
These videos should have way more views.

Another interesting video! And I see those X-Men omnibuses behind you😉
You haven’t had a miss in three seasons…..🙏🏼

#RIP DJ Mark The 45 King 👑🙏🏾♥️
Another great episode 👏
I was raised off of Stony Island... 69th Street. South Shore/Jackson Park Highlands all day! 60649 💯
Good man, Shakim.. schooled me on alot of knowledge.
I don't know if you asked Dante if how in the hell did Tommy Boy end up with Brand Nubian's catalog.
Yeah at the end of the kmd or ODB because Tom Silverman had a hedge fund investor buy the license to all those albums lol
Also a bugged out coincidence about Dante Ross being a major factor in putting Brand Nubian on considering the fact that they label White People as the Devil.
@BigHomieDJVIP hmph. I thought it was all just in the general Warner Music bin when they killed Elektra, and they just assigned it to Tommy Boy.
The first SD-50'S joint Dante did with 3rd Bass was "3 Strikes 5000"
THE LINE 'BLACK MEDALLIONS NO GOLD' IS JUNGLE BROTHERS NOT DE LA, THO IT'S THEIR RECORD..
Where's the episode 2 of De la Soul's creation of 3 feet high and rising ?
Shazzy was yet ANOTHER Dante/SD-50'S dope project. Shazzy was dope as was H20 (Hard 2 Obtain) another Dante Ross/SD-50'S production.
Dante should have signed Lakim instead of Aaron Fuchs
I believe Fuchs had already snatched Lak by the time Dante was going to sign Latifah.
This my forth episode in 24 Hours your shit is I'll get Diamond Shell Biz Markie lil brother his shit was Funky
3rd Bass was Hip Hop's Sam & Dave... They didn't like each other either LOL
