After spending the last four months in Palmer (and flying in the exact same spots you did) I have to say this was my favorite episode of FlightChops so far! Thank you Steve for documenting this! Brought back memories of the world’s best kind of flying!

My back yard. I'm fortunate to live within minutes of flying time to the Knik glacier area. I fly it often with my 172 Taildragger.

Another great video. I've lived in Alaska 37 years and finally decided to start learning to fly. Can't wait to see the views from a new perspective.
10:49 that TFR was broken many times. I was part of the search and recovery team on that glacier for the C-124 remains. We would radio the Air Force SERE team on the west side of Lake George and they would call up the aircraft. Very rewarding mission as I met a surviving family who never had anyone to burry, and they were able to close that door, or even better sometimes recover items like wedding bands, photos, and other items.
As a sailor I love that they're talking about sailing their plane across the lake.
You get to fly the coolest stuff man. floats, fighters, acro, jets, bush planes, DCs, and so much more! It’s only a matter of time before Boeing calls you and offers you a check ride on an 777.

My first flight on floats was out of Kenai in a 180. Absolutely spectacular...going to get my SES rating next summer. Love this series.
That looks like an incredible place to fly. It was great to see Wasilla from the air, where my wife grew up. Very cool, well constructed video. A lot different than the views I see from my office window in Papua New Guinea.

I always take first time passengers to Knik Glacier. It's a real crowd-pleaser. Wish I could go as low as FlightChops, but I'm not on floats. :)

I fly that Skymaster now, must have shot this last year. Too bad he didn't take you to more exciting places, knik is fun but there are so many cooler places within the same flying time.
Flew a C152 through that same gorge at knik glacier! That was one of the coolest flights I’ve been on

That was very interesting, the views and the context of flying off the water. What better place then Alaska. I was hoping to see a Bear doing some fishing. Looks like a good place to carry a firearm in case you were to get stranded out there for a while!!!
Where I live in Alaska, there's been so many accidents that the aerial tour service here, Taquan Air, had to shut down because of liabilities. The Misty Fjords by Revillagigedo Island isn't the best area to fly around due to the shear winds that come off of the mountains, which is what has caused most if not all the accidents here.
By the Divines, I am familiar with southeast Alaska flying, flown with one of the best out of Ketchikan who does misty fjords daily for yrs in a beaver on floats. Most of the recent crashes were pilot error! Many of the crashes are pilots new to Alaska flying! Not all, but most!😉

Thanks! And yeah, sorry about pausing the series for July - a bunch of time sensitive stuff related to “not Oshkosh” came up that I was a part of... helping EAA and others try to keep the spirit alive as well as we could, despite the event being canceled.

I like how you are always thinking of an out. Low flying always reduces your options. The necessity to do low flying other than sight seeing also should play into ones decisions. When I saw the opening footage low over that glacier I thought your options were zero or close to.

For your takeoff question Steve, if you get 70% of your rotation speed by 50% of your takeoff run you will get off without an obstacle.
Yes, I am familiar with that in the context of a runway with known qualities - but the reason I asked was because out there on a spot Clint had not necessarily landed on before I was wondering how he gauged it.

Those are the normal Bose QuietComfort Headphones with an aviation microphone added. Don't know if it's still called the uflymike but that's what it used to be called.

For those that are flying in from the East, Neodesha, KS 2K7 has 91 Ethanol Free gas. Then it's only 84 miles to 1K1 Stearman Field.

Nice vid. You should and a disclaimer: Don't try this at home. I flew (past tense) as a CAP SAR pilot for forty years, but flying over those mini icebergs made me nervous. More use to box canyons at 10k...
