This film in my view is the 'best' western of all time. And this theme song is a timeless classic. I am glad in my lifetime I have the opportunity to be exposed to both.

This movie is a work of art. At times the "action" is at a snail's pace but it gives you time to drink in all the beauty....phenomenal.....almost like a visit to an art museum....each scene is a masterpiece...and Ennio"s music is like the presence of God and brings life to the camera's paintings in a way that will stay with you throughout your life.
Yeah, every scene from Leone's Films is like an artwork, a beautiful painting.

Just two weeks ago the movie was again in full length without advertisement in German TV. The close ups to Claudias face at every scene. Goosebumps for me about her natural beauty and expression and this also for me for decades now. Had seen the movie several times now, first in the beginning 70ties as a young twen, not because of Claudia being in real more than ten years older than me, but later when you (and me) get another look on woman as a womon not a girl I got another understanding of her role and character here. An outstanding actress, not so too much of „styled beauty“ as other actresses of her generation like Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot or Raquel Welch, who in my opinion never could play this role here.
There is only one other actress with gives me smile in my face and memories to those times.
Lt. Dish, respective Jo Ann Pflug in Mash, here face and look when she is arriving at M.A.S.H in the helicopter is similar to Claudias look, leaving the train as the start up in her role here.
And not to forget, the movie himself, the other characters, the music, have the soundtrack on CD and the DVD, is for me one of the best movies all the time (in my life and what I have seen up to now);and the best western at all. Second western „Dance with wolves“ and by the way J. Barry as composer of movie music is respective was meanwhile also great, and on third place „Little big man“ from 1970.
All three movies by the way have overlength playtime of more than 2,5 hours.
There is nothing better western ever made. Respect to all those who make this legendary movie.

Exactly. And knowing this is the bride the now-dead family was waiting for...one of the most heart-rendering scenes ever in cinema...and it wasn't Hollywood. This was a spaghetti western. The best westerns were Italian. By the way, she is concerned that nobody was waiting for her at the station.
Am with ya 100%. I got goosebumps with this scene. Everytime i see it. Leone lifted cinema to another level. At the time his spaghetti's were received as being "nice" while he made pure art. Being a teenager in the begin 80's these movies knocked me out but people didn't know what i was talking about. Since then people know that i find these movies (incl The Good the bad and the ugly) state of art being one of the best movies ever made. You can see that these movies has "grown" in the meantime. Back then it was impossible to find such a movie in the top 10 (see IMDB top 250) of best movies ever made. Movies like the Hateful 8 are very nice but it never comes close to the Leone movies. Sergio Leone managed that by playing the music directly on set during scene shooting so they could coordinate the camera, acting..

This scene is one of the most impressive in all of cinema (the camera rising above the train station to first show us the town is breathtaking, especially with Morricone's music). But, then again, the same can be said of several scenes in this movie. Leone was a genius and this may be the best film he made.

Feb. 2023. Sehe gerade zum X-ten male gerne wieder im deutschen TV BR3 diesen Film und diese Anfangssequenz von Jills Ankunft und Fahrt bis zum Stop an der „Raststätte“. Die beste Zusammenstellung der Filmgeschichte aus Filmsequenz, dessen Handlung bzw. Filmschnitt am Bahnhof, die Fahrt durchs Monument Valley, Claudia Cardinales „ungeschminkte“ natürliche Schönheit und dieser unbeschreiblichen Musik für die Ewigkeit ever.

This one scene encapsulates the magnificence of this film-masterful direction by Leone -Claudia Cardinals eyes say so much,the watch ,the station clock ,its the little things set against the majestic landscape and the beautiful shot taken overhead in one take and the masterly shot of the horse carriage going into the distance.I could watch this scene over and over never tire of its sheer beauty and melancholic spirit.

An epic western to say the least. It's in my top ten westerns of all time. Claudia Cardinale is stunning.
Perhaps many people recognize in some soul-walking way when they see this sequence of the masterpiece. With the power of music, this sequence of film history's unattainable peak has been reached. I can imagine and feel what my ancestors felt when they came from Sweden in 1869 to Kansas City.

"Once Upon a Time in the West". The music was written by the composing GOD, Ennio Morrconne. I just had to watch the movie it was really cool. Visually stunning even if it was a little slow in today's standards. I feel that the "slowness" causes those visual images to stick in ones head more though. Loved IT!

Originally it was Dell"orso, but has been changed to the Riggacci sound track for copyright reasons.

My favourite Western of all time. I would have been the perfect Cowboy for this film but I was only age 7 at the time. Even Clint Eastwood would have been envious about me but on reflection he would have been proud of me.

In my country this kind of movies was taken as a B class in absent of the great actors from hollywood. When I was a kid saw this movies and can't realize this. Was just another movies with cowboys beauty girls and many, many shootguns. Now when the times goes on and I coming to my end I remember it like a most beauty age of my life and can't avoid cry hearing this songs. Thank Mr Morricone to fix in my mind this great movies through unforgettable songs. Thanks to my town's cinema for gift me eternal noons dreaming me on between the dusty mans in a unknown places.

Vos musiques "Ennio Morricone" peuvent s'accompagner de films ou pas ! Elles peuvent se sufir a elles même ..... En revanche tous les films accompagnés des musiques d'Ennio Morricone sont des chefs d'oeuvres. Tous ces films auraient pu être muet sans ne rien changer à l"histoire et de garder l'émotion intacte..... Une harmonie sans faille et avec ce sentiment d'immensité et d'éternel recouvert d'aventures humaines soupoudrées de poésie sur l'ensemble de son oeuvre sublime. Merci Monsieur !
