Just found this channel and you are such an educational individual. Never seen a video that seems to answer all of my questions before- but yours always does!! Thank you for covering everything
Thanks so much for the feedback! We actually have another video that's a combo, it shows out 4x2x2 cage and shows in depth a thermostat and how to hook up!
Thank you! I wish we could still make them, unfortunately the $ of the PVC has gone up so much that we had to put a stop to building until it comes down one day
All depends on the thermostat, and how many watts per foot the heat tape ud you purchase. Each heat tape will tell you wattage when you order, and every thermostat will tell you on their website how many watts they can handle
I'm not sure if you answered this in the vdeo but how do you get the heat tape to stick? Is there already a sticky side when you buy online or do you use something external like heat resistant tape to stick the heat tape onto the enclosure?
Hello! You can either staple it like I do (you can only staple in the clear sections, not the black or copper) Or you can buy a foil tape to put over it and stick it down!
Fantastic Video,Sub’d after 1st minute Very well spoken & to the point. Few questions if you have the time To what depth do you route out the cavity for heat tape Does heat tape work better having a surface (besides the enclosure) directly under to bounce the heat off.. like for my pvc4x6x18” I’m setting up, I was going to make a base but didn’t know if it’s safer to have a large air gape or just a small one with rubber spacers to basically trap and transfer most of the heat I’m also setting up 3 new pvc4x2x12” which will have decorative foam on the 3 interior sides. I purchased 3 sheets of 12” heat tape, each 24” in length .. after watching I obviously have to much , what’s your opinion on how much I need? Is there a general formula? Thank you so much!!!
Thanks! So heat tape needs room the breath, so when we were making cages we would allow for 1/4" or more to let the heat tape get air flow. When routering out for the heat tape you can only go a tiny bit or if you add staples it will loke through. So all depends on the thickness of the material you are using. The species, room temperature and cage material all determine how muxh heat tape to use. Whichever heat tape manufacture you use, you would have to research them specifically to get a better idea on what they recommend for how much based on the species you keep 🙂
Thank you for this video. What size and type of rivet do you use? Also, how do you attach the heat tape to what is being heated? Does it have a stick side I assume? Thanks again!
Thanks for info. Can you connect the heat tape in a chained fashion so you only need one plug? Can you use connectors/grommets on both ends of the wire connecting two or more heat tapes? Then the plug connects into last heat tape. Thanks
I have a 4'x2'x18" tall pvc enclosure for my ball python. What size heat tape would you recommend for this size and how much length wise? I am looking to get some as a supplemental heating because I'm currently using a 100 watt deep heat projector on a thermostat and it isn't warming up the hot side of the enclosure past 78-79°F on the ground. Thanks in advance!
Im wondering how you would heat and regulate multiple set ups. Would each line of tape need its own thermostat? Or do the thermostats have multiple outlets and you can probe one enclosure?

I would also love another in depth video about the thermostat you use and how to hook it up to multiple heat tape lines!

This was so helpful. 👏 Thank you
Glad to help!
Love it thank you i had no idea what heat tape actually was
No problem 😊
@@obscurereptiles Can you put heat tape inside a pvc enclosure safely? If so do you have to drill a additional hole for the wiring?

Sure!
Love the video
Thanks! We appreciate it
Good informative video for people that have questions about heat tape for sure 👏🏻
Thanks!!

All heat tape is different, when you buy it from different places they have different recommendations.

Do you make these enclosures to sell? I dont see them on the website..
We did, but are taking g a break currently. Everything we do is posted to our Facebook page
What is the power cord called you clamped on the heat tape with the rivets?
They are pre made cords found on reptile basics!
Where did you get the rivets?
They come with the plug set up
Thank you for this video. What size and type of rivet do you use? Also, how do you attach the heat tape to what is being heated? Does it have a stick side I assume? Thanks again!
We use staples which can go in the clear section but not the copper or black. You can also use foil tape as well to attach!
How much the enclosures?
We are no longer making them at this time due to material piece being so high but hopefully we will be back to making them one day
Where did you get those enclosures
I built them!

Hello! It all depends on what you are going to use. Whichever manufacturer your going through will say how much they recommend
Can you put heat tape inside a pvc enclosure safely? If so do you have to drill a additional hole for the wiring?
Your reptile shouldn't be able to touch the heat tape so would have to be on the outside of the enclosures
What kind of cord did you use
They can be purchased from reptile basics which is also a place you can get the heat tape
Can you use this with wood or glass enclosures? And should you do it only on the bottom or would the back work?
I wouldn't recommend anything but pvc
Hi! Since the heat tape has no back or front why doesn’t all the heat escape from the open side and instead heat up the inside of the enclosure.
Since heat rises and is staple directly to the pvc it goes right up through. You also set the cage on things so it naturally wants to go up
@@obscurereptiles ah so that’s why you would want to put it on the bottom and not the back
