Just the best song ever and a fun video. Besides being an awesome gecko Tokay is also the name of the grape variety from which the fine vintage wine Ripple is made from.
I'm not sure how accurate this translation is. But for anyone trying to learn Khmer through song: no no no no no, the tokay’s cry is making me look for my love the tokay cries ou ou ou, making me look for love, where is my love? i try looking every day, day after day i hear the tokay cry, where is my love, the tokay cries cries three times a day, tokay [interlude] every night every night i sleep alone hugging my pillow and worries, if someone comes and play with me, there’s no more worries in my body, tokay i’ve wished for many days now wishing for luck, luck, following the tokay’s cry, tokay where is my love, the tokay cries cries three times a day, tokay wishing, following , looking , the tokay cries, x2 [interlude] tokay i try looking every day, day after day i hear the tokay cry, tokay where is my love, the tokay cries cries three times a day, wishing, following , looking , the tokay cries, x2 the tokay cries (repeat)
I've heard this song at work, and RUclips it up and found one. Thihihi... We have them in Thailand (the tokay lizard that is). These lizards make that noise during the day and night, most likely at night, they are at their most fullest and creepiest. I heard that their bite is painful, I find them more scarier at night than by day. Anyway, sorry went off track. I like the song and the melody reminds me that of what you would hear in a Thai traditional music. :) Thank you for sharing! :D
When i lived in thailand they called them "tokay". In the Philippines they were called "tuko". They kinda creeped me out, but they're bug-eating machines. You won't find roaches and tokays in the same space, so we always kept one of the little beasts on our property.
Man, that song is SOOOOOO addictive! Too bad you guys weren't able to feature a real live "tokay" in this video (lol), but completely understandable given Nimol's apparent phobia of such critters. 14 years since you all came together to form this very special group, eh? It's an incredible thing to have that kind of staying power in today's music industry, but even more amazing to re-introduce what was almost surely an extinct part of latter 20th century Cambodian pop culture (due to the Khmer Rouge, no doubt:::sigh:::) to its native homeland as well as spread it to the rest of the world at long last. There's just not enough accolades to throw your way for what you've all managed to accomplish together, but believe me when I say that they are all well worth it! ;-) Btw, new album is SLAMMIN'! Historically speaking, an artist or group's 5th studio album is usually the one that ends up being among the best or even career-defining in their entire catalog. That's really what 'The Deepest Lake' sounds like to these ears, anyway. Don't look now, but we're only 6 years away from celebrating the group's 20th anniversary, my how time just flies in this century...
In Khmer culture elderly people told me that when they hear tokay cries out they start to say one time widow another time they say virgin so on and so forth if tokay stops at virgin then they believe that they will marry virgin. I tried many times when I heard tokay cried but it always stopped at widow. This is song is very good one I love it.
hmmmmm. there are people in Buri Ram Thailand that speak a language the is like.... lost. It is a pre Khmer lingo called sawaii. My ex wifes mom aleaks it and her older sister. Very few people on Earth speak this pre Khmer language called sawaii. strange fruit.
It's a gecko, a lizard that climbs walls and can even walk upside down on the ceiling or on glass windows. only, a tokay can grow up to 40 - 50 cm in length.
+DENGUE FEVER I am very grateful for that! lol! I was scared that you would show one at the end of the clip! I don't like the smaller lizards either...

1:08 My stride when leaving work on Friday evening
I can't enough, I listen to Dengue Fever almost everyday.
I'm not sure how accurate this translation is. But for anyone trying to learn Khmer through song:
no no no no no,
the tokay’s cry is making me look for my love
the tokay cries ou ou ou, making me look for love, where is my love?
i try looking every day, day after day i hear the tokay cry,
where is my love, the tokay cries cries three times a day,
tokay
[interlude]
every night every night i sleep alone hugging my pillow and worries,
if someone comes and play with me, there’s no more worries in my body,
tokay
i’ve wished for many days now
wishing for luck, luck, following the tokay’s cry,
tokay
where is my love, the tokay cries cries three times a day,
tokay
wishing, following , looking , the tokay cries, x2
[interlude]
tokay
i try looking every day, day after day i hear the tokay cry,
tokay
where is my love, the tokay cries cries three times a day,
wishing, following , looking , the tokay cries, x2
the tokay cries (repeat)
Thanks for the lyrics. It's very accurate except the intro. It's actually not "no no no no" it's "look, look"
what is "tokay"?
Is it possible to obtain the original Khmer lyrics?
@@VadimAndreyev gekko???😅😅

I just got dengue and found this
What does the word Tokay mean?
It's the sound the Tokay lizard makes.
It's a gecko, a lizard that climbs walls and can even walk upside down on the ceiling or on glass windows. only, a tokay can grow up to 40 - 50 cm in length.
like honey in my milk*
Fun video!! But I don't like tokays or geckos...
+Saravann Neither does Nimol, she's terrified of them, which is one of the reasons we decided not to use geckos in the video :)
+DENGUE FEVER I am very grateful for that! lol! I was scared that you would show one at the end of the clip! I don't like the smaller lizards either...
