12? It came out in 2008, not 2006. That’s the 2006 trailer which is 12 years old. Game development started in 2006. It was completed in late 2007 and released in January-March 2008. January 31st for Japan and March 9th for North America.

Sonic’s intro was by far my favorite. As I played through the game, I was constantly wondering when the heck he would show up. As I played, I was slowly losing hope that he would show up in the story mode at all. Then, when I reached the final boss, I figured, “Eh, he must not be in the story mode after all”
Then, suddenly, something came out of nowhere and attacked Tabuu’s wings. I saw it was was all like, “Oh that was cool. I wonder who’s attack that was.” Then it turned around and attacked again. “Oh, that was interesting. That must be somebody’s Final Smash... but whose?” Then, without warning, the camera showed that red shoe plant itself on that rock and MY BRAIN FREAKING EXPLODED!!!
Yeah, all at the cost of delaying the game and borrowing animations of existing characters. No big deal.

In each of the character introductions there are variations.
All heroes and secret characters share the same or a very similar intro chime (Excluding King Dedede and Zero Suit Samus.)
While all villains share a heavier, more forceful chime. Like a judge's gabble. (Excluding Wolf because he was a secret character.)
Maybe Wolf is not neccesarily that much of a bad guy compared to other characters who scream "I'm evil" like Ganon. If Andross or Pigma were in Smash over Wolf (thank god they didn't and hopefully it stays that way) then they would have gotten that heavier chime.
Still, good eye! Or... ear, in this case.
Dedede had both the hero and villain chime. Plus his own theme

Ps: If I had to guess where Wolf would be if he was in the actual story, he would be a spy for the Subspace Army.
I know people didn't care for the Subspace Emisarry, but I enjoyed it, if only for the cool cutscenes. Kinda makes me sad Smash 4 didn't have any kind of story mode.

Well, specifically, people tend to harp on the endgame of Subspace. I hear lots of complaints about how frustrated people got with the Great Maze, and a lot of people think Tabuu is a crappy villain because he has no real backstory and comes out of nowhere.
Gold Wade well the great maze is awful but as far as I know most people liked tabuu

On the official site it says that Tabuu was created IN the Subspace and kidnapped Mr G&W for the Shadow Bugs, Stole Meta Knights Ship, attacked the Ancient Isle where the R.O.B. Species lived peacefully until they surrendered to Tabuu, captured Pikachu for electrical currents, and finally hired Petey, Ganon, Bowser, Wario, and their minions to attack the heroes

The ike from smash 4 uses the design of Radiant Dawn, the sequel of Path of Radiance

I remember finally getting through the Great Maze and getting so hype at seeing Sonic's intro! Best one, IMO. Too bad that Mr. Game & Watch didn't get one, though. At least, not a formal one like everyone else.
Holy shit the Ness and Lucas part is sooooo nostalgic. I don’t really remember playing brawl that much as a kid (too much Wii Sports and Mario Party’s lol) but that scene in the creepy playground sequence area just stood out to me as a kid. Looked so cool at the time, and still does today.
This was so over the top😂 but definitely the best part of the game. I really hope they change their views on making another story mode

Back in the day, I thought Sonic’s appearance was soooo badass saving all of the characters. I just wish that if there really is going to be a successor to Subspace in Smash 5, Sonic needs more involvement.

I agree. Too bad he, Falco and Fox don’t get much time together. I mean… None. They don’t spend a single second together. Let’s hope a future story mode (World of Light doesn’t count as 1: there’s almost no cutscenes and 2: Wolf isn’t in the intro, but both Falco and, of course, Fox do) showcases at least one cutscene with the three Spacies.

Too bad. This one was the best I’ve ever seen, even though I never played this amazing game! If in Smash 6 (If we have one), we get a Story Mode like that, I would run in a store to buy it THE VERY FIRST DAY!!!
the last three characters had a minor part in the story. toon link was sailing the entire time. wolf was in space (for a lack of better words lol), jigglypuff is performing after all the subspace bullcrap and the world was restored. until you battle all of them and you get everyone on your team
If you think about it if it weren't for Luigi Ness Kirby and Sonic everyone would be screwed

The Lucas intro is too emotinal even the whole thing that he almost got crushed and ness sacrificed himself to save Lucas and that's what made it even more emotional that I almost cried

They aren’t in the story, because they got added too late. However, both Jigglypuff and Wolf were supposed to appear, with Jigglypuff getting introduced in the Ruins before Ivysaur, while Wolf was supposed to first appear in the Swamp, before Falco. I currently don’t know how those cutscenes would have happened nor where Toon Link would have been introduced in.

Given what happened with the previous installment of Smash, you and everyone else should be grateful that there even is a story mode in ultimate.
Mary D didn’t say I wasn’t grateful. Still enjoyed what little story mode they had. How they did it in Brawl, was the best.
