    Hi Kirk,
    I'm a plasterer/drywallbuilder in the Principality of Liechtenstein and I find it fascinating to see how other plasterers work all around the world. The basics are the same here but there are a lot of differences especially the tools and products. I enjoy watching your videos and keep up the good work.

    Morning Todd Forfreedom, your question does not have the normal reply link under it so hopefully you get this answer to your interior brick question.
    Anyone know why 1 out of 25 don't have this reply link?
    With an interior brick or cinder block surface the rules change a bit, they are simpler.
    First prep your brick wall properly, apply bonder if necessary, then If it were me I would apply either a Struct-light base coat or a diamond base coat, and follow up with a finish coat of whichever material you choose for your basecoat. There are more options, but I wish to simplify as best as possible.
    All the necessary material's can be found at either of your monster hardware stores such as Home Depot or Lowes if you know what to look for.

    hi kirk and jay great job as usual. man that chimney was high .one question in most of you videos you use a pool trowel now here in ireland its nearly all square end trowels .i personally use a 16x5 or 18x5 now we use alot of sand and cement here most houses are sand and cement finish out side ,and a sand and cement scratch float inside before skim coating ..all houses are block built .what i want to ask is could you recommend a good pool trowel for both skim and sand and cement work, size and material ie. stainless. carbon steel or blue steel i see pool trowles have short shanks so they should be very flexible thank guys love the videos happy holidays

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  10 лет назад +2

      Morning johnzo70, I generally use a 16X5 stainless steel trowel, when I started this video I was using a 20X5, but most folks find this too big and awkward as it's mainly used for concrete finishing.
      Note the ends are not a complete radius, they have a straight edge, just the top corners have the curve.
      I would recommend the 16X5 as we as plasterers need to be able to flex the trowel in order to muscle it where we need the plaster, if it's 4 inches wide or less it won't have the flex and is usually only good for concrete finishes,
      I tell my guy's an 18 or 16 X 5 rectangular trowel are the best for experienced plasterers, while the standard 12X5 is for the beginner.
      I just happen to prefer my 16X5 as I'm shown later in this video using.

    If they really wanted to add more strength to chimney spray fiber concrete would be best option instead that 2 inch stucco.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 лет назад

      Evening Mr. Wizard, this seems ;logical, however concrete for foundations or walkways have a PSI strength of say 2,000 to about 3,5000 psi.
      This product with just sand as an aggregate not rocks mind you, when full cured set at an incredible 4,700 PSI.
      Rapid set manufacturers it for our bridges and man is it expensive.
      That crazy strength plus the rebar and two inches think
      Google Eisenwall cement plaster as the technical stuff I know but takes to long to share accurately y in this small space.
      Cheers,
      Kirk and Jason giordano’s rendering videos

    • @mr.wizeguy8995

      Your link provided info that after 28 days Eisenwall cement plaster is 3500 PSI.
      Didn't knew that you use so weak concrete in US as you stated. We usually pour footings, slabs etc. with concrete that has 4300 PSI it's premixed and delivered by concrete mixer truck and it's still quite low end concrete as strenght wise.

    Why didn’t they decide to use the chicken wire type first then the rebar type after to make it easier for the stucco to stick.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 лет назад

      Good evening Steve, there are many ways to skin a cat.
      Although we didn't attach the rebar, I support its application. The general contractor, who is also an engineer, pressure washed this chimney, we sprayed Weld Creat, 'A stucco bonding agent" through the rebar so that the stucco would adhere even to the substrate.

      When you remove old render the thicker parts are allways the easiest for a reason

      Structural and restoration engineer here. This is very interesting. I would have never considered plastering the wall to enlarge/stiffen. I would have defaulted to a form and pour method with self-consolidating concrete, and finish accordingly. But as long as enough area of steel is provided in the mesh and the anchoring to the wall is sufficient, this should be fine. Very cool, Kirk.

    Nice job guys. Mud that thick is a pain. Try's to work you instead of you working it. On to the next guys.

      Howdy Dave Dude, I wouldn't go that far, but we do get paid to stay in decent physical conditioning without having to pay gym dues.
      Cheers, live long and plaster
