This has to be one of the most time consuming punishments. Not that it's super complicated, but someone actually had to write that short musical, build the props, find actors, etc. Plus, scheduling all those firefighters to get in the same room at the same time couldn't have been easy.
Any competent writer would have written that in under and hour. It's all very formulaic broadway songwriting with pretty clumsy lyrics. I imagine the biggest part was just coordinating the hiring because I'm sure the dancers could the learn the simple coreo within an hours practice.
I can’t remember which season it was so it was either before or obviously after this, but there’s one episode where Q’s fireman buddies come back again. It’s the episode where the jokers try to make each other laugh while one joker is interviewing a stranger and the other jokers are in the background with their mirror that shuts off and turns on behind the stranger so a joker can’t laugh at what the other jokers are doing in the back.
This is one of my favorite punishments, because while it's certainly embarrassing, it also somewhat honors Q's time as a firefighter and shows a lot of love.
"boy, it's a shame that guy died in that fire" has the same energy as "wow, those people just died, and you guys are clapping? really getting comfortable with the whole being dead thing."
I think it depends on the station, but they need to know they can rely on you. Where I work they did a deal with a fireman. He only worked 3 shifts a week the rest was the fire department. So it would probably just conflict a fulltime show risk/reward type deal. I don't blame him at all.
Q worked the 166 Engine/ 86 Truck on Richmond Ave for 8 years, he loves the guys he worked with & still is in touch with them! Alot of people have prior jobs that they loved before making it big. Steve Buschemi worked in the 55 Engine in Little Italy for 4 years until he got big into acting, he says to this day leaving the job was one of the hardest things he ever did
HumorVortex Mosco The FDNY has over 10,000 firefighters and those guys here were most likely off duty, them being there didn't put a dent in resources.
That's what I came here for. Was hoping someone would know the names of the actors. I was watching the inside jokes edition of this episode and one of the pop ups said one of the guys was a Broadway star. Forgot what show. And I wondered if the rest were anyone from Broadway or just extras. There's no information anywhere though about who they are
Yeah, it's worse. I could handle spiders on me but starring in a play that makes a mockery of my entire life, including the serious parts? I couldn't handle something like that.
Came back to this after watching a Q interview at 1:12 he said was crying because he was genuinely moved at seeing everyone but it looks like he's laughing so they kept it in.
Wow...Alex sounds good with rock songs and this type of music...that's impressive. He also looks so different when they don't try to make him look like a mess
i've seen this punishment before but i still can't get over my favorite broadway actor and my favorite tv show having a collaboration episode i'm just fangirling so hard
Omg is that Alex Brightman 2 time Tony nominee, star of school of rock and current star of Beetlejuice playing in the winter garden theatre until June 6th?

"Q the (former) Fireman" Plot:A fireman named Brian Quinn "Q" quits his job of being a heroic fireman and turns to tv with his three best friends in a juvenile and outrageous program where they compete to embarrass each other. He thinks he became such a big shot now that he returns to his hometown where he brags about it to everyone, but when the Beef Gristle Mill gets caught on fire and the only (former) fireman around is Q, he can't do anything about it and is shamed by the people and the little girl who he saved and looked up to him. Q laments to himself about it when suddenly, his guardian angel, Alex Brightman, shows up and help him understand everything and we find out Q only quit to be with his life long friends to have fun and all is forgiven.
