The Gary Jules version is played on piano while the camera pans out to the world 4 stories below from the top of a building and back again "as the world goes by". Gary's version is haunting and introspective, this is a slight step in the other direction back towards the original.
Sometimes people forget, how besides all the memes, and the "cliche subjects and stories" connected to it, that this is probably one of the saddest songs ever written. No physical battle of war is as strong and devistating as a battle in someone's head. A different reality portrayed in front of a pair of eyes struggling to focus on an actual reality. I travel alot by train, (for my studies), and the amount of cancelled rides home cause of a human accident, (suicide), seriously scares me more then anything else. People dont even care anymore. They just get mad at the person ending his life cause they get home a little later then they would have liked... It burns me up everytime I hear people calling the poor soul names cause of it. "Ignorant bitch", "hypocrytical ego" and "pathetic attention whore" just anger me the most. I just want people to look beyond only the fact their trains dont go cause of someone committing suicide. Cause that person, was someone just like any one else. If you would have been at a state like him/her, you wouldnt think of that anymore, friends, family and maybe even their partner, actually learn alot of the person they lost really fast. People within a battle like this dont even have the courage anymore to step out and talk to people. Cause the only look you get is usually a look of dis-interest, and there is a huge chance people will never be able to take you as serious as you feel. Maybe only if that feeling is shared with the person you speak about it to. Didnt intend of typing out a whole paragraph like this, but I just wanted to say to people who dont take these battles serious, There is nothing comparable to someone fighting with him or herself. Suicide, or if you will, "Depression", is just not something you "just get". It is something you shouldnt take as a joke. Cause the only joke here in people like me, and others their minds are ourselves. And 9 out of 10 times, it really truly is depression if your head has no more realistic controll. So you could almost call it a "Sickness", or a "disorder". Cause getting back ever into a better state, is as long and difficult as recovering from cancer, or any other major mental or physical damage.

Mad world gives this alternate world vibe that you are in a very strange world where everything is different. The customs and culture of those people are so weird and bizarre. You question how you got here and eventually you learn how this specific world works and you can do nothing but comment: Damn this is a mad world.
