    Pete, I just want to say that I have been watching your videos for years. You have been the most influential youtuber in my life because you got me into collecting. I never lost faith or unsubscribed during your hiatuses because the content you gave us was great. I just want to say thank you for inspiring me to collect. I was always striving to get a collection like yours (still am to this day). So, thanks again for being so awesome.

    Really enjoyed this. I started collecting Japanese Sega Saturn games about 15 years ago as near where I worked there was an independent game store and I was spending loads of my cash in there. I had a UK version in the 90's but once I had my own cash flow I delved into the realm of Japanese stuff. I have also been learning Japanese since I was a teenager partly due to import games! It has been one of the best hobbies ever. I am also a NEO GEO CD fanatic because I like the underdog stuff :D

    You should go to Japan. Used game stores are so saturated with Saturn that no one wants and you can get then for a buck or 2....100 to 300 yen. Had a friend go to Super Potatoe in Japan, brought back a suitcase full of games, at least 60, for 135 bucks.

    I love collecting for the Saturn. I'm pretty strict about getting US games though. The only times I get import games for it is if a US version doesn't exist. It's more expensive than importing for sure, but it isn't too crazy if you watch prices close enough that you know what a game typically goes for and can recognize a good deal. For instance when I bought Shining Force III (complete) I got it for $100 vs the $150+ it usually goes for. While the same game you can get a Japanese copy for $30, I like having the US versions more.

    In all honesty Pete I think its a great series because with the price of the north American getting more and more ridiculous with each passing year, people are generally looking for other alternatives and I can see you doing this series with a variety of other systems. If you can do it for more systems, I say all the power to you. I'm not an import collector myself so there is really nothing in this video I would personally find useful since I don't collect imports but a lot of people can get a lot of use out of this video. With my Sega Saturn collecting days finished, I'm perfectly fine with what I own for my north American Saturn collection. I already have my set collection rules and with the little space I do have I need to respect the space for other things that I want and its for that reason why I don't collect imports, but if imports give other gamers the chance to play the games they've always wanted to play for a cheaper price; all the power to them.

    @TheLiquidusnake 9 лет назад

    Hey Pete I'm liking the video and now I'm interested to see if you're ever gonna cover other systems like import gaming for the DS, PSP, Gameboy, PS3 and so on. The only imports in terms of gaming I own are the Hatsune Miku Project Diva games on PSP, since we never got those in English as America got the PS3 titles and soon one of the 3DS titles, and I also have imported amiibos but we know how bad the amiibo collecting scene is lol. I figured some systems are region free so it would be neat to see what else you can find out there without having to spend extra on buying an imported system, do any sort of modding or relying on some import gaming software or hardware (unless you really have to depending specifically on the console in question).

    Now a days I just burn everything on a CD-r and play it through my modded Saturn. I have like one or 2 imports, but there just of really cheap games that were localized anyway, like Virtua Fighter. Don't get me wrong, a game like Hyper Duel is absolutely fantastic, definitely one of the must play games, but I can't fathom dropping $500+ on it. There are much better things I can buy with $500.

    I've found some good deals on ebay from some of the big Japanese game sellers. Even shipping is pretty reasonable as long as you buy several items. I also found some great deals on Saturn games in Tokyo last year. Akihabara is of course packed but check out the Book Offs for better prices. I picked up a ton of stuff for 50-90% off of the equivalent US game prices, not to mention the Japanese exclusive which are numerous. Also, used Japanese games are almost always in perfect condition.

    Man I would have loved to be a guest in this because I am a die hard import sega saturn collector. I am literally only missing one game in my personal collection, but I would have done some things a little differently. I would have done something for each genre. For example, for people who are fans of shooters and want to try it out first before really going for the big buck ones I would recommend gunbird(has yoko/tate mode) detana twinbee, and standard shooter that is still easily attainable, and will help introduce you to fighters. For the fighting game fans I would recommend vampire saviour(darkstalkers 3), xmen vs street fighter, for VS 15-25 dollar range(except xmen vs street fighter which is about 35-50 big box w/ ram cart). I think xmen is a good way to start because that way you have a game and a 4mb ram cart as well, so its definitely worth it because finding the game by itself is actually much harder, and actually rarer than the big box. Platformers I believe you really nailed on your video. I also would have talked about a different subject which some people it is either for you or not and that is spine card collecting for imports. All in all, definitely a nice introduction video about import saturn collecting, and I highly recommend it to people. While it is quite niche, but if you guys really want some of that arcade experience at home definitely go with the import saturn.

    nice Pete I got most of these games I lack hyper duel and psychic killer but I have other expensive ones not listed like final fight revenge xmultiply image fight mizubaku adventure oh just to let you know ninpen manmaru is 40$ on one website people on eBay are now getting between 80-200$ which is insane for that one great collection I admire your tempo as well.

    ahhhhh, Japanese Astal has gone up to anywhere from 60 to 150, it sucks to see the game skyrocket after I had set my sights on it when it was much cheaper before I could get a system.

  • @TriforceRich
    @TriforceRich 9 лет назад

    I'm a Saturn collector as well, import and USA, and it's definitely a system you should be careful with. Tons of expensive titles and to be honest most aren't worth the asking price. If you are going after these games purely for wanting to play them, then I don't see the Sega Saturn as the best system. You have to appreciate the games and the collector value (very low print runs).
    Great video Pete and a great video title at that. The Saturn certainly isn't for everyone.

  • @altrogeruvah
    @altrogeruvah 9 лет назад

    I have a relatively big Saturn & Dreamcast import collection (I'm not a collector, I buy only what I want to play) as well as region modded Saturn & Dreamcast. I gotta be honest, my collection consists mostly of arcade game ports and obscure games, or how Japanese people call it: 糞ゲー = "sh*t game". However, these games are as popular as your average shmup in Japan, the funny genre title only refers to the production quality. Some are crazy fun, some are not (some aren't even games) but they all range from $5 to $45 and serve as a good history lesson on how the Saturn did in Japan; totally different market than ours. For most of these though, some intermediate Japanese is necessary.
    Also, I'd like to point out that if you don't own any Saturn games and want to start playing, I do encourage checking out reasonably priced big lots. Usually, 25% of any Saturn game lot includes the "big" ones, like the Virtua games, Sonic games etc. It's cheaper than getting them in single copies.

  • @zborgerd
    @zborgerd 9 лет назад +1

    Pete - What did you play Shienryu / Gekioh PS1 on? An emulator? The music doesn't work on the PS3 according to some sources. It does have music so you possibly didn't play it on real PS1 / PS2 hardware.
    The PS1 version is actually a pretty good conversion, but I have read that it's missing some sort of transparency effect that is present in the Saturn release. It's really cheap on PS1 too. The audio differences are debatable. I kinda prefer the PS1 version to the Saturn due to the enhanced music and extra features.

      SegaCDUniverse Well most of the SNK fighters only used 1mb and I just know of one KOF game that used a ROM Cart and I think that is KOF '95 you can't play it on a US system unless you have a region modded Saturn because you can't use the Action Replay cart since that spot is taken up by the KOF '95 ROM Cart.

    Hey Pete. I'd love to see another Ebay Hunting video if you're ever up to it. Those are the best!

    Saturn, Megadrive & PC Engine are the best import collecting systems imo.
    Especially if you're into shooters.

    The action replay has the 4meg expansion ram and backup memory built in so the whole Saturn Library should work without issue

      sneskegagama That's not true. Some games actually require their original RAM carts, mostly the ones requiring 1 MB RAM. KOF 94 (or 95) is one I recall off the top of my head. There are others.

      That's good to know. I don't own any games that take advantage of the extra ram yet.

    What version of Hyper Duel is better Arcade or Saturn? Thinking about pulling the trigger on the Saturn version for around 400 usd.. but if the arcade version is better I might just play it on a PC/Mame. I however don't have a PC ATM so I'd have to buy one lol, but I need a PC anyways. Hmm any thoughts?

    Which King Of Fighters / SNK games work with the Action Replay Plus 4M on a US Saturn ? ( or do you need a special ram cart to play those ? )

    I just bought my first Sega Saturn (The Japanese olive/gray version) and was wondering if all action replay cartridges are universal. I got the Japanese version because of its immense game library, but I would also like to play Engish/American games.

    I would buy it for RPGs / Strategy games and looking on ebay a PAL version is quite cheap £50 - £65 on ebay + shipping costs. BUT for example Shining Force III is £120 (sealed) so it makes me think twice. Anyone got any comments on the following RPGs strategy games on the Saturn ?
    AZEL: Panzer Dragoon RPG
    Shining: The Holy Ark
    Dark Savior
    Albert Odyssey Gaiden
    The Story of Thor

    Hey Pete where would you categorize the import version of Radiant Silvergun? I am keeping an out for the game but at the same time I have a budget to maintain.

      Juggernaut Try DLing it on XBLA if you want first, that deterred me from buying a real copy because I didn;t find it worth the price personally.

    I only have Virtua Cop with the gun (that doesn't work on a PC VGA monitor), Grandia 1, Night Christmas edition and some turn based military game for my japanese Saturn. I hope I can get Panzer Dragoon, Metal Slug, some Capcom fighting games and shmups from Treasure and Cave.
    God bless, Proverbs 31

    I'd really like to get a Saturn, but the only thing keeping me is the space... unfortunetly where I live right now space is a really limiting factor :( If only they had made a slim Saturn the same way they made slim PS1 and PS2s...

    First time M1 Saturn owner reporting! Dawh dang, was hoping to hear about the NTSC-U vs NTSC-Js. So only covering those exclusives, not a problem, it's just those fucking longboxes not to mention the prices!
