How do you differentiate normal 2 from a brisk/hyperreflexive 3+ through observation. Is it how quick the response is or how high? There are lots of conflicting examples. Thanks.

Does the reflex increase if the knee is hit hard? I did the reflex test on my own knee at home. When I hit slowly, the reflex was slow. It increased when I hit hard. I'm worried it's hyperreflexia. Please answer.

Is there anything alternative position that you can put patient apart from the sitting up position when checking for the knee reflex test?

When my knee was tested one knee was normal and one was hyper reflexive. The Dr was testing for C5 problems and said I have the beginnings of myelopathy but is this normal with only 1 side?

Hi Victoria 😊 Classic textbook answer is No, in that Myelopathy would present as double sided. However, I would suggest seeing the Dr again or Different Dr if you are unsure 😊
