Summer Solstice & a mid-year check-in! | Vlog 39 2024

- OPEN ME!: It's summer solstice! The longest day of the year. I started with a morning walk to enjoy a little bit of sun and blue sky before the day got super hot. Then I settled down to do some editing and finally finished Draft 3 and all the developmental edits. Yippee! Once done with book project work I took some time out of the afternoon to do some reflective writing/journaling and did a mid-year check-in. It got a bit emotional but I'm so glad I took the time to do this. I hope you enjoy! :) xx

Andrea, I have watched your channel for a few years now. I don’t comment much but always feel comforted when I see a new upload from you. The last few years have contained a lot of loss, health issues and extreme stress for me. I look forward to your vlogs because it’s like an escape for me. You welcome us into your life with so much warmth, and we get to vicariously hike, write, and cook with mum (my personal favourites to name a few) through you. My husband and I were married on the summer solstice so it's always a fun day around here. :)
I really like your idea of taking times for reflection quarterly. I need to start doing this. Perhaps it will keep me from feeling like life is simply sweeping me away and the whole year is flying by.
I love that the solstice is your anniversary! That's so cool. :) I think quarterly reflections is something I need to add to my schedule. I want to be marking the time passing more and not let the years run away with me. I can't believe we're already more than halfway through 2024.

Ack! In trying to explain flight anxiety with statistics she nearly talks herself into having driving anxiety.😬 I can relate. Logic does not apply to anxiety-as much as we want it to. Good for you for being brave!
Lol, I definitely have driving anxiety as well. But living in Phoenix I practically live in my car, so I have no choice but to deal with that anxiety.
I love the idea of writing down moments of magic. Our whole lives are filled with little beautiful moments. I love my small life too. it definitely could use more adventures but it's pretty great.
Getting myself to focus on the little beautiful moments has been such a game changer for me this year. :)
I relate to flight anxiety so much! It’s been stopping me from visiting my son and daughter-in-law in England. Ugh. I need to overcome it, but like you said, it’s such a primal fear for me.
Flight anxiety is so hard. I totally understand.
✔ Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about your flight anxiety, Andrea! Did you always have it (I know you're a military kid) or is it more as an adult? Maybe a preflight ritual might help. Play music, drink a Pimms, eat a Percy Pig, call Moms, etc. It might get the brain excited for the trip. I'm so proud you got on the plane anyway. Go you :)
I LOVE flying... actually, I LOVE travelling; flying is just a part of the process. But I'm so hyped to get to my destination that the flying part is a blur. And I've had some pretty bad experiences (turbulence, lost at an airport terminal while flying solo, creepy seat mate) but the trip was so great, I didn't mind.
I love the mid-year check-in, moments of magic, things I'm grateful for practice. I'll try to replicate that myself! As for my updates, I'm grateful for my remote job, my family (my sister had my niece 8 days ago), and my writing :) Oh, and being 43 is AMAZING, isn't it?
I didn't always have flight anxiety. I always loved flying as a kid. But over the last several years it's gotten worse. Especially after 4+ years of not flying during the pandemic. There's part of me that still loves flying but another part is totally scared of it. And I don't enjoy traveling. Airports stress me out and being around so many people makes me anxious. So I wish I could just teleport lol. I'm going to try to save up to splurge on business class next time, I think if I'm flying solo that's going to be the way to go for me.
