We have always gone back to school at the end of August or early September, but this year in Arizona 🌵 it’s back to school early! It’s back to school early here in Louisiana. I’m rushing to get things done
The children in the area go back next week. Seems early here too.
My youngest starts August 9 and my oldest starts college on August 23 😊I start teaching on August 25!

In Belgium the summer holidays are always July and August. So the new schoolyear always starts September 1st. But 8 weeks is a long time. And I also can't wait to have the structure back. Having to arrange 8 weeks of camps or grandparents or other babysitting options is a lot. Because my husband and I only have 2-3 weeks vacation :-) I'm just glad now that the summer holidays are half way through. I hope your boys have a good start of the new schoolyear!
When my kids were that age I folded their clothes in a set for each day of the week. Each set had pants (or shorts) Tshirt, sweater, underwear and socks (with variations on that for the weather).
I had five sets in their 'school' drawer.
Then in the mornings they didn't have to waste time selecting each item of clothing for the day, they could just choose a pile with everything ready to go. At the end of the week, there's just one set left for Friday.
Saves so much time digging around and keeps the drawers tidy! Like a meal plan for their clothes.
The fact that you’re cleaning so peacefully with your shirt on backwards is a true definition of “this crazy life” lol 😂😂😂😂😂
I say have Kyle do the shelf, then push the shoe organizer to one side and have him build in a two cube organizer on the other side for the sock thing! 😍
I was thinking the same thing moving the shelf all the way to side. Buy wood to make longer tabletop and stain it to match the wood. Use the existing tabletop and cut to make cubby shelves.

The "template" method of going through clothes is GENIUS!
I love the idea of having Kyle build a shelf over the top and then I would also have him build a couple on either side of the shoe storage for bins (dirty 🧦). I would probably just end up taking the whole thing out and putting up a storage bench with hooks for backpacks, coats and shoes
I can totally relate with the whole backwards shirt ordeal!! This is why I love watching you!! The realness is awesome!!
We do “fancy” grilled cheese nights. Some nights it’s mozzarella with pepperoni and I sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the buttered outside of the bread. We dip them in pizza sauce. 🤤 we also make ones like yours and ones with avocado, bacon and Turkey. Sooo good.
We've also done them with provolone, turkey, and pesto! Delicioso!!

I used to do the same with my kids clothes when they were little and it always worked so much easier than having them try on every piece of clothing.

That clothing hack is so smart! It also solves the problem of different brands having different sizing measurements so it weeds out clothes in their size that still may be too small or too big.

Just a thought….if Kyle builds the shelf (love that!) maybe make it a charging station as well on top? My kids bring Chrome books back and forth to school even before Covid so we had a little place for them to charge and be put away for the night!

Oh Amanda your shirt being on backwards was a pure moment lol I do agree with you about Kyle adding a shelf over your shoe organizer then your lamp will look perfect with it! The lighting over the dinning room table was perfect for your overall look of the house! You know how to blend and thats where I run into issues is blending all my husband's and I looks together! My daughter is 4.5 and starting school this fall, however I'm new to the school life and don't really know what to pack lunch wise without it being always the same.. she gets bored easily but loves to eat haha!! Love your videos and can't wait for that laundry room make over!!

Hi Amanda love your channel! Suggestion for your shoe storage. Push it to the wall and put your lamp on it with the decor you put on first time round. Then you can put a blanket basket or umbrella stand in the other corner. It doesn’t always have to be central sometimes a little offset can look good too. Just a thought 😊

For the shoe cabinet you could mover the cabinet all the way to the left of the right and gave Kyle install a counter/shelf all the way across the top and then put floating white shelves to fill the void on the side. You could put baskets in them to hold the socks or hats/gloves when winter comes.

It’s so exciting to see the house coming together. I can’t believe how big the boys are getting...it’s definitely bittersweet when they’re all in school. I love the idea that you and Kyle are planning for the shoe cabinet, and it’ll make it look really custom. We’re thinking about getting one to put by the door, because our shoes end up EVERYWHERE. Definitely one of those “real life moments” lol! 😉
That’s the one thing about Arizona is that school starts so early. It used to be after Labor Day. It’s so hot in August. And to have to deal with masks on top of that. My family is full of teachers. Good luck to your guys.

I also am in Arizona and I love the “shorter” summer break because it’s way too hot for the kids to actually enjoy outside time. This way we have 2 full weeks in October and again in March when the weather is perfect for the kids to play outside!

I love the idea of adding a longer board on top of the shoe organizer to customize it.
A floating built-in shelf would be cool for that little nook, easy vacuum access lol. A wax warmer or diffuser that gives off a pretty design on the walls could be an idea also instead of a lamp! Maybe it would also help with feet smell. 😂
We are living the same life…I have 3 boys too Amanda & feel ur pain. They all grow soooo fast!! I start w my oldest tho bc he needs new stuff first & can’t borrow anyone’s else’s!;) then I pass down to my middle one what I can & inventory his next. And so on & so forth. Then compile a master list to fill in gaps for each son. :) can’t believe school starts now in Arizona? Ur boys are so so cute💙💙💙

I like the idea at the shoe station to make a new top and then make shelves on both sides so it looks more like a built in. This way it goes from the wall to wall. If not shelves make a false front on either side to make it looks like it goes from wall to wall.

Totally did the socks at the front door with my girls, too. I’m in bare feet in the house and so are they…easy to have them just at the door! And I was going to suggest a shelf above the cabinet that goes from one wall to the other!! Perfect!!

Two options for the shoe cabinet are 1) move the cabinet to your right into the corner instead of centering in the space or 2) make a new top for the cabinet that fits over the existing one that is wider than the cabinet to completely fill the space.

You could buy a pre-finished board that matches in the size you need & put it over the top of the shoe unit. Then you can have the lamp & more area to style the top

Today was my oldest sons first day of preschool, momma cried a little when he got on the bus, but he’s so excited, so we’re going to make it through! My husband always started school in September in Virginia and I always started the last week of August in Kansas, so this was really early for both of us, we’re in Georgia!
Amanda... here's to a suggestion for you sock/shoe station... put a hook on that wall above the dirty sock container for one of the boy's school back packs the on the other side of the cabinet put 2 more hooks one above the other for the other 2 boy's back packs... then you could still do like you said with the shelf for decoration... therefore giving you all an "Afterschool Station"... too cute... like I said... just a suggestion : ) : ) : )
