Of all the TV shows I haven’t followed for years, I found the portrayal of Guo Huangqi and the Seven Elders quite endearing, bringing back memories of my youth while watching this version of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes." The visual appeal remains charming. However, every time the show ends, that effeminate, rhythm-less, and meaningless ending song starts breathlessly rising out of nowhere, and I immediately understand the term "gou wei xu diao" (dog's tail attached to a sable fur). It reminds me of the powerful and evocative melody and atmosphere of "Iron Blood, Loyal Heart" written by Wong Jim and Joseph Koo. Sigh! Surface-level works can never compare to those that are richly textured and soulfully enhanced by music. The beautiful hues of a sunset ultimately amount to nothing more than a wave of the hand, leaving no trace of emotional engagement
