  • In this video we explain in step-by-step instructions how to sharpen your blades on an electric shaver. All we are using in this video is some vinegar and toothpaste, which makes this procedure really affordable, as opposed to purchasing expensive replacement blades, which may not even be as good as the original blades.

Would this technique, with the toothpaste, work on the type of razor that has straight blades that move back and forth?

It works with some toothpastes particularly old fashion ones (ones containing aluminium oxide are the best for the job). However, many new toothpastes have little or no abrasive ingredients in them. In this case the sharpening will not work.

Or the EXTRA Whitening style can be used.. I use it on the plastic headlights as well..cleans the haze off of them and then wash it off and do a little waxing..works great.@@alanreid250

Tooth paste is meant to be gentle to your teeth including plastic fillings, not to be abrasive on metal. I recommend using a sharpening stone for knives. Mine has two sides: 600 and 1000. A finer grain will result in an even finer edge, which then will become dull sooner. Just put the blades onto the stone and sharpen them in a circular motion.

If you want to understand this better this really isn’t sharpening… It is more akin to stropping (An important technique and blade maintenance!)
