    In this video we take a new Performance Center Shield out for a test drive. This so far has been a great carry piece, accurate, dependable and a smooth shooter with the ported barrel feature of this particular model. We took a little time in this video to compare it to the Glock 43, however we will be revisiting that concept in the future after both guns come back from Robar.

    Great review! I've got this exact gun and it is my primary cc. I absolutely love it! Ported barrel definitely seems to reduce the muzzle rise which makes for faster follow up shots. I've never had and issue with the ported barrel as far as residue spraying out the side and potentially getting on you. I have never noticed more flash even shooting indoors. The trigger definitely seems like an upgrade on the performance center model. Just my opinion, I would definitely recommend this pistol!

      I love mine too, so you guys run the fiberoptics that came with it? I swapped it for Truglo’s but I’m prolly gonna switch back to the fiberoptics now that I’m running a flashlight on it, im not as concerned about having night sights. If you guys haven’t found it by now, crimson trace makes a light/ laser combo called laser gaurd pro, it activates on the grip the same way a lot of their lasers do but it’s also got a 200 lumen light with strobe. Also it’s got the green laser which is nice to have but probably not to rely on

    I purchased an M&P 9 mm PC Shield from our local police supply store a few weeks ago and was shocked how well the gun performed. I think I shoot better with it then my full size M&P. No recoil at all in my opinion, sights never left the target. Good video!

    I just bought the Performance Center Shield 2.0 Friday to use as my carry. I am also dumping 120 into my appendix holster. I am normally a what will get the job done cheapest kind of guy, but with all the violence anymore I am getting good stuff for my ccw, and building a better AR than my standard M4 that I have that is like the one I had in the Army. Got a 18" heavy barrel upper with 16" MLoc hand guards.

    Heat causes things to expand. Losing the fiber in the sight was more likely caused by the metal holder expanding and loosening its grip on the fiber.

      It's there because the California compliant model can not fire without the magazine in the mag well. But don't complain about that slight lettering... Our California compliant model has a huge idiot indicator mentioning it's loaded. I started calling mine a middle sight.

    • @BrassBashers
      @BrassBashers 8 лет назад +1

      +That_Guy 1: If it's California compliant, it should have the letting on it saying "Will not fire without magazine". If not, it shouldn't have a billboard saying so.
      2: I own a few pistols that don't have to plaster all these ugly warnings all over them. I like them that way.
      3: I like a loaded chamber indicator... unless it has writing on it. Ruger does not help my lettering OCD in these cases, with their giant "LOADED WHEN UP" engravings.
      It felt awesome when I first handled their lightweight commander 1911 and it didn't have stupid warnings and lettering plastered all over it. Made me love it even more.

    • @Rhin0sAreUnic0rns
      @Rhin0sAreUnic0rns 8 лет назад

      +BrassBashers my Shield doesn't have the lettering. but the load indicator does have big engraved writing saying, "LOADED WHEN UP" with white filling of the lettering, on the black huge load indicator. And the walls of the load indicator are red. I don't mind the load indicators on some pistols, but this one is a little too much. Try searching for an image online.

    I found the shield was more accurate than the g43. I've had both but the shield produced surprise accuracy at 25 yards in hostage drills. Before anyone gets all uptight about practicing hostage shots with a sub compact, just chill. I'm a FCLEO and would hopefully never actually try that shot, with either gun. However if I did have to, the shield would be my go to. Great vid IV8888. Lookin to come to you all shop one day.

    I generally love S&W M&P pistols. I had a Shield 40 and if was a very nice carry pistol with good groupings and a smooth trigger out of the box. When my daughter got her carry permit, I gave her the pistol because I wanted her to have a quality made, reliable firearm I could trust if she needed to use it. To replace it, I bought the S&W Shield Performance Center 40. I bought it for the optic sights and the supposedly better trigger and that these were suppose to be hand built and checked. It turned out to be one of the worse pistols I have ever bought. The trigger was rough and often hung up in the gun. The sights were off center, while on a short barrel gun might not make much difference, it is a problem if aiming for distance. The porting looks tacticool, but really does little for grouping or accuracy and can be an issue if shooting at night. I sent the gun back to Smith and Wesson and it was more or less repaired and corrected, but the trigger is still is not as smooth shooting as the standard Shield 40 I gave to my daughter. Bottom line is; buy the standard version and if you want the optic sights add them afterward. I did not feel the performance center model was worth the additional $120 cost.

      The shield was my first pistol. I bought it just before my ccw class and shot it for the first time there. I did a lot of research on various different handguns and found that the shield had the best reviews. Since then, I've shot a 43, a XDS and some other common handguns people use for concealed carry. I would still choose the shield over all of them.

    Erik.. I for one believe that Smith & Wesson is the best "Mass produced" Handgun Company in the world. Their Pistol's are Made with Top craftsmanship, elegant in aesthetics, World Renown accuracy, Engineered Right seized "gun smith able" parts and Dynamic handling Quality,,, that Is the reason All the Top shooters that make a living competing use them. Now Glock is a good Pistol, But they only make one Pistol. Their Auto Pistols. The only thing I wish that Smith & Wesson would do is go Back and Make their Revolvers like the design before the Key lock trigger device. Good shooting to you Guys and God Bless.. Thorsaxe777

    • @evandaire1449
      @evandaire1449 8 лет назад +1

      Agreed. Korth may "debatably" make a better revolver. But they run 3+ grand and they really don't seem to be all that much better than a smith. Smith makes the best all around revolvers and excellent quality semi auto pistols.

      You should look into the M&P R8 it's a performance center revolver that has a standard cylinder that holds 8 rounds of .357 magnum. Smith & Wesson is my favorite American gun manufacturer. All time favorite gun manufacturer is Heckler & Koch.

      Jesse Simmons H&K has been around for a long time, and I agree, Innovative in design. However made in a simple way and user friendly, Typical Northern European quality and well engineered for durability and Maintenance. Engineered to go the 300.000 mile run, Just like their Automobiles.

    Promag makes 10 rounders for this which makes plinking a lot more enjoyable. They're also way easier to load. I wouldn't carry with them though, the spring isn't as strong so occasionally you get a round that nosedives, but for practice they're awesome for not having to reload as often.

    7:04 I'm just not a ported-defensive-gun guy anymore. I love them for what they do, but 9 times out of 10 I will not have eye protection on if a defensive situation arises. To me it isn't about the flash it could produce as much as the un-burnt propellant, and other debris (could be minor bullet casing shavings, etc.) that then become eye hazards. At the 7:04 mark you see some debris in the slow-motion, and that amount of debris varies with each shot and with each brand's loads. I'm sure they shoot nice, but I'd rather have a Performance Center shield without the porting (and a lower bore axis for all Shields). Not sure what it is about bore axes (plural) where so many manufacturers still want to sell us high ones, but S&W isn't one known to move tha bar easily. It took a company like Glock to get Smith to wake the hell up years ago (and by 'wake up,' that was only in directly copying Glock and getting sued over it).

    Fiber optic inserts get soft when the gun warms up, stretch with use, and then "battering ram" themselves to death once they can move around in the sight. Fortunately, the replacement fiber optic sections are cheap and super easy to install. Best to keep replacement sections on hand.

  • @peterdelgado1223
    @peterdelgado1223 8 лет назад

    Nice Firearms!! But in my honest opinion the G42 with its caliber and size combo trump both the shield and the G43. Due to the low recoil of the 9mm browning (.380acp) and the low speed of the typical 9mm browning, allows the G42 to be a super awesome supressor host when or if they make the threaded barrel for it. and with the ghost M.E.D. (mag extention device) and magguts mag followers you can make the G42 a sweet hi cap single stack with 8rd capacity even on the reload! magguts on the flushy and M.E.D.'s for the reload mags you'll have so much fun shooting a G42 because its so accurate for the gun that it is. :)

    I have several ported handguns and yes you can see the flash in darker conditions but I have to say if flash messes with a persons night vision then they have superhuman ability to see in extreme slow motion. The flash only lasts milliseconds and the flash myth has been dispelled many, many times.

    it doesn't look like you guys have taken the Walther ccp out for a video... I would love to see how you guys stack it up against these other two pistols... seems like a neat unique kind of design...

    Im glad you said it, it does take a while to get used to. First few times out i was struggling with it. But after about 300 rounds it just seemed to lock in for me, what sucks is i dont really know what i changed to tighten up my groups. I think it comes down to 6 pound trigger on a 1.5 pound gun.

    I carry this weapon everyday, I love it, but as you said about the safety, it's good trigger control, always use that index finger, it's your 1st safety

    I like the compact better. I have the 9mm C. Without safety,12 shot. Packs a good Everyday carry for me. Great range or leave at home defense gun during the winter. Perfect first gun imo. And the shield is smaller and thinner ,better for the summer. Using a black point IWB

    Performance trigger isn't near as crisp as an Apex, but it still is a lot better than the regular factory trigger. What deterred me from getting the PC for my wife is the ports at the muzzle. Didn't want to risk a big flash on a personal defense gun.

    Lots of sweat caused rusting on slide and mag release . But nonetheless a great carry gun

    The first time I used a Shield I really didn't like it. I have massive hands so a pocket gun doesn't fit comfortably even with the 8rd mag. The trigger is also too squishy for my liking. I haven't tried the apex drop in trigger but it's definitely something I'm considering if I ever get a shield of my own. As for the grip if I wrap my pinky under the floorplate of an 8rd mag the grip feels a lot better. I've also seen some after market 9rd mags that look interesting.

    How about a side by side shoot with your favorite revolver, semi auto, and shotgun. 3 of the most common home defensive responsive weapons. Be nice to see you both shooting and discussing likes dislikes. handiness of each for home defense. The types of ammo safest for home use.

    I seem to find that most of these shield shot a fuzz to the left,i moved my sights just a hair to compensate for this.they are pretty accurate for a small pistol.they seem to shot best with 124gr also.

    Wondered about the ported barrel. Wife's Shield 9mm will throw fireballs using Blazer plinkers, haven't seen with the Critical Defense yet, but that's going to be switched out soon anyway.

    I wish smith would chamber this in something like 5.7x28. You would get a great capacity increase in a smaller and cheaper package than five sevens.
