Any human being would marvel at the athleticism and strength of these performers, especially, in my view, the young woman who not only had to show strength, but poise after all the displacement. Bravo.
What amazing lifts. Such a shame I will never share this link with anyone because of the gratuitous snide attitude - jerk treating Turkish culture like it's some laughable, cartoonish joke. Some of the earliest traces of human civilization - real civilization, little things like houses, towns, art, agriculture - have been shown to first exist in Anatolia (Turkey). Benny also had a pretty condescending attitude towards his Black sidekick.
Not saying you're wrong, because casual racism was certainly pretty common back then, and I certainly don't question the tremendous contributions of ancient Near Eastern culture, but I do think the dance is pretty amazing and worth watching, regardless of Jack Benny's jokes at its expense. And to be fair to him, Benny was pretty much snide to everybody, regardless of race; that was part of his shtick, much like Don Rickles' shtick was insult humor. With regard to Benny's attitudes towards race, they apparently evolved in a positive direction over time, as is detailed here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_%22Rochester%22_Anderson#Progression_of_race_relations
@@Mostoller People of this specific time can't seem to understand ( or won't ) that there is context in time ! Was it a good thing that people once lived in caves and may have captured and ate each other ? Probably not ! ( Humor attempt ) But, it happened maybe, when we were starving and knew no better !🙄🤔😳

The hosts hands creep me out
Was Jack Benny queer?
He makes them look like a bunch of nancies.
Michael McNeil Jack Benny was a notorious womanizer...
