Finally a great video to find potential causes without forking out $1000s right off the bat. Many blame the cat right away and resort to the unnecessary and illegal adapters
Got this on an LX470, i ended up clearing the code and it hasn’t popped again so here’s to hoping. Now, a little while later I’m looking for videos on it in case it comes back and i stumble upon this, definitely subscribed and super informative.
Hey there, I'm getting this code (no other codes with it) - I put a catalytic converter cleaner in my car and after some days my car becomes randomly sluggish as I drive, as mentioned in your video I step on the gas and the car doesn't go, feels like its losing power, and it shoots a bunch of gray smoke out of the tail pipe as this happens, it's a 01 nissan sentra gxe 1.8 with a lot of miles on it, any help
Good video -a presentation that is straight forward! I have a 2013 Edge, V6. P0430 code sets frequently when driving. Mainly if I step on it to accelerate uphill or maybe pass another vehicle. Have ran a 5* rated converter cleaner through the system but problem still occurs. Does the fact it sets under load narrow the cause or increase the possibilities? The local Ford dealer could not find a problem.
Gm, i have 2007 INFINITI fx35 and my check engine light came on and i have the fixed it device and i plugged it up and the code read catalyst system threshold bank 1 po420 engine code, what should i do ?
When you say check for holes are cracks in the exhaust pipes would any holes after the catalytic converters cause this code or would it be before the catalytic converter or before the sensor? Thanks bud
If a hole is close to sensor 2, it can throw things off. It needs to be diagnosed; I would test the sensors and CAT. If they test good, then it may be an exhaust leak.
I have a 08 Saturn Vue about 121k miles and I got a P0430 code and P1133. CEL came on after getting the oil changed. The ride isn’t necessarily rough but it GUZZLES gas like crazy. Any advice?
I had lean codes both banks from a cold thermostat I put in along. With p430. I put the stock thermostat back in and lean codes are gone and p430 just doesn't want to say goodbye yet...think I am screwed.😮😮 UPDATE it was not the thermostat it turned out to be the secondary air check vale gasket had a leak .
I recently bought a 2013 ford explorer and two days later P0420 & P0430 at once.. it had a huge hole in the flex pipe like 89 % missing but the hole was after the 02 Sensors i still had a new flex pipe put on. When I get down to a 1/4 of a tank I have some cataclean I’m going to try out.. the gas mileage is so good it is taking forever to get it to 1/4 tank. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get it to 1/4.. but the 2013 Ford Explorer Xlt is clean and super nice and drives smooth.. just the damn check engine light is on for those 2 codes.. someone told me maybe the sensors and there is 4 of them 2 upstream 2 downstream at 80 bucks or more a piece smh I would think it would throw an 02 sensor code not both Catalytic 0:39 codes and the catalytic converters are 500 and there is 2 bank 1 and bank 2.. sucks for it to have a check engine light on the next day I buy it as is.. I drove it around for like an hour and a half pulled over in a private parking lot let it run and checked all fluids. Accelerated fast and brakes hard stayed running good. Still runs fine the exhaust is quiet now that the flex pipe has been replaced I wonder when Someone back up on to something it broke anywhere else I didn’t see any more damage.
Getting this code again. A year ago I got the code, then added Cataclean & the codes went away. It's back, and I guess I'll try cataclean again. Any other tips? The 2010 4 runner drives great and I hope this clears up the issue.
Thanks for the insight - in my case I got P0302 Code 1st - changed the spark plugs & boots, a few weeks later I get the P0430 code. What’s the best course of action?
Thanks for the video. I have a 2008 GMC Sierra. I had both of the catalytic converters replaced about a year ago. About a month ago I had all of my lifters replaced on the passenger side due to a failed (collapsed) lifter. My engine light has been on right around the same time. I used a catalyst cleaner and had the code cleared. I have driven it for about 150 miles since clearing the code. The engine light is not on but the code is still stored in the memory and I cannot pass inspection until it totally clears. How long does it take to do that and are there any tricks? to help it along?
I notice that everytime I used gas from a certain gas station, soon after I get this code. When I ran almos out of fuel I go to a different gas station after a few minutes driving, the engine light is no longer on.
I changed my both a 02 sensors, with no luck, no holes or leaks, i noticed a misfire at idle, with no codes, i changed sparkplugs and wires no luck, i then changed fuel inyectors and all codes clear, usually chevys inyectors goes bad at 150,000+ miles
20093 tahoe- 154000 miles. Engine developed p03000 random misfire a few months ago. Interestingly, I had a new catalytic converter and 02 sensors put on about 4 months before the random misfire started. Engine only misfires when truck is under a heavy load. In Alabama in 95 degrees weather running 85 down the highway with the ac on full blast. We tried to pull a small uhaul trailer and the weight of the trailer and the ac would cause misfire. Tuneup done. New Coil packs etc etc. Didn't fix. Now It's throwing this code also. Last Mechanic seemed to think it was related to emissions/evap. He didn't have time to dig into it, and at the time no codes. Just the random p0300. Then it would clear. Thoughts? I'd be so grateful
The only component in the EVAP system that may cause a problem is if the purge valve stuck open. This usually only causes issues when the engine is starting and not under load since it would be open. The fuel pump may be starting to fail and not able to deliver during a load. I would test the fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
Hey boss, I have a 2015 altima 3.5 sl. I have this code and c1155 (front left wheel speed sensor imput circuit failure) I replaced the front left wheel s. Sensor. But car is still going into limp mode. (Car stays on but doesn't receive power or rev) but it does when I put it in park. Rpm jumps up like it's burning up whatever leftover gas. Turning the car off, resting, then back on solves the problem long enough to drive home from the gas station. Hoping you had some insight
This is just a guess, but it sounds like an engine problem, like a leaky injector or similar. A leaky injector will clog up the catalytic converter and give false Cat codes. Also, many vehicle computers will shut down ABS brake systems when the engine has issues.
Hi I have 2015 yukon with p0171 p0174 p0430 p0420. Replaced maf and 171 and 174 code is gone. However 430 and 420 remained. Cat was clogged as there was slow response and gas milwas poor.Replced cat(magnaflow oem, all 4 o2 sensors oem), car runs great, gas mileage back to factory specs. But 420 and 430 codes are back On freeze frame I see that o2 bank 2 is at 0.2 milivolts(i know it should be steady 0.6-0.7. Is it that new oem o2 sensor is not good, or I am missing something. Appreciate any help
If all the components are good, I would check the wiring and be sure there is no exhaust leaks. Since the sensors are OEM, they are likely good. Also, sometimes, when replacing all the components, if the vehicle is driven a bit and the codes cleared again, they stay off for some reason.
Code were on and off for few months of driving, and then last 3 months always on. Cat is magnaflof OE specs, not oem chevy. And I heard people had issues when putting non oem cats. Being that car runs great, how can I figure if non oem cat is throwing the code. Oem cat is 5k and I fell a waste on a car with 200k. Also i only need to visually inspect wires? Is there something that will show in scanner? Thank you
Good day to all. I have a car Honda Odyssey 2013 3.5 v6. A few months ago the error code p0430 came up. I replaced the sensor with a new one. and So I drove 7000 miles when it caught fire again. (p0430). There is no loss of power when driving. and there is no feeling. The engine oil is clean. Thanks in advance for anyone who thinks about this.
I just replaced my catalytic converters and sensors on my f150 3.5 ecoboost. Also replaced my spark plugs and coils. I was having power issues when I would get up to 70mph. After all of that, I am still having issues at 30-40mph and 70mph. The truck loses it power and sputters. I took it to Oriellys, and the P0430 came up. I'm starting to think that maybe the new catalytic converter or sensors are bad from the manufacturer? The only code that shows up is the P0430. 😢
I have a 2019 f150, had my catylitic converter replaced under warranty around 68,000 miles. Less than a year later, Ford is saying it needs to be replaced again. Replacement parts were on back order. Seems to be a larger issue impacting lots of folks, surprised there's not a recall yet

Sorry but bad news after 10 to 12,000 miles exact same code will come back and you will clear it 2 to 3 days and then a week later it will come back all this really does is clear the code out so you can get through omissions and shut the light out you’re going to have to deal with a cat situation fix the problem Find out why is common on find cars I know because I’ve done it. I went over everything on my vehicle that would cause this code I know what the problem is I just wanted a quick fix so I can get through omissions after 10 to 12,000 miles that coded come back instead of a P430 it was a P 20 I know I have to pull the cat replace it get it pulled out and get the cat cleaned out, because I know it’s not broke it is starting to plug up. I feel it because I am getting pinging on acceleration when your cat system starts. Plugging up yoga pinging, loss of power and EGR codes O2 sensor staying at center. You will have to go aftermarket do not go cheap. This is just a fix that’s it you’re going to have to deal with troubleshooting this system. I know this is bad words to people, but it Hass to be done.

I have both po420 and po430 on my ford and noticed there’s a exhaust leak but in the resonator far from the cats could that possible be it?

It's says on the bottle to use atleast a couple bottles of cataclean a year. Did u loose a lil power? Did it the power come back after u cleaned it
Use 99 Octane fuel

I forgot to say, the code was for low efficiency catalytic converter bank 2.
It may be clogged from the engine issues, and it is hard to say when it will burn out.
@@HVAC_Mechanic Okay, thanks for responding.
Where would I buy some good catalytic converters
Amazon. I just bought 2 from the Eastern Catalytic brand
I know a few tweekers they can give you a real good deal 😂😂😂
Rockauto
Flowmaster
Putting Cataclean in the gas tank at a half tank and drive it for 30 miles first is also a good thing to do before changing 02 sensors
