- "When it comes to creativity, working with control is totally ok but there comes a point when you need to have freedom. Control should not be the master, everything must move away so that the real master - the source - can come to you." - International DJ/producer/composer/LIVE act Anthony Rother talks about his approach to music making and performance.
Anthony Rother (Nextdata, Datapunk) is a true electronic music pioneer best known for his uncompromising sound and seamless 'one-man band' LIVE performances featuring an extensive equipment package. Over the years he has collaborated with artists such as Ex-Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos, Nena, Sven Vath, Tiefschwarz and many more. It was an honour and pleasure to have Anthony deliver a Masterclass at SAE Institute.

Artist? No. Legend of live electronic music!
I was at this class. Such an amazing memory. Thank you SAE
Never knew that Heiko Laux was a kind of mentor to him. Both legends
Thanks a huge lot for the upload ... not only is this a brilliant excerpt from the masterclass itself, it's also the explanation what Anthony has been up to lately = preparing for these classes and arranging stuff to present in front of the audience... Really cool. Keep it up!
Very insightful, thanks Anthony!
Brilliant, man. I remember hanging out with him at an Electro Alliance party in FL back in the day. He's still just as fuckin cool.
he's also describing Enlightenment. Only when the mind is clear of thought does the light really shine.
Wow he is making really dark side music which I really like especially those early works but he is so different here. Thanks for that :) inspiring... I really like use vocoder on my music as well and I feel like I will make vocoder like Anthony Rother. Real legend too me:)
Thanx for these 30 minutes anthony ;)
Ja hier die Baseline ist hier von deinem Live-Set hier von dem Titel look to the future und dann der eine sample war von Schubdüse also der Sound der den hast von diesen normal gehört einwandfrei total
Great Class & great Artist thx !
Why is the video quality so bad? You offer a masterclass for video production don't you?
Great!!! Happy new year!!
" The only thing i dont read is novels " he doesnt want to read stories. He is choosing to write story. Not read.
Also he is in love with the "producing moment". Making tracks is a side effect of this love.
Maestro de maestros!
Such an inspiring shwanz. Loved it
boah geil zu sehen dass die tracks zu so einem großen teil am G2 produziert wurden.
live is life
Top guy
its allways the man behind the maschine ...the man is the maschine :D
After the performence 23.13 till the end of the video is the best advice I ever found. This is why someone can finish a song instead saving loop nr 57899 and start a new one the next day because you tired of hearing it and it became boring to polish the turd.
oh captain, my captain!
total
what midi/synth is that he's using?
Oh man what a blessing, i could definitely use some outboard gear. I am putting my energy and light out there with some synths. Let me come jam oneday - even if its a micro org i love those things, i'll murder that soup dish. i wish i still had all those track of his. what an inspiration, i definitely create better music when i have been not thinking and preparing the jam for hours. I also feel that spiel on it being our connection to our higher self or archetypal image, like Jimi Hendrix being quoted saying, music is my religion. What was that gear? SfX move your phat head, down in front. i check the comments now. and the white synth he began with was the Followed 1? When was this?
it's the ear, not the gear
the video in the class recorded with an pocket calculator?
solid
