If you are going to give Cora solid cubes I would suggest soaking them in some hot water first. Horses can eat very quickly, get the dry cubes stuck and choke. Which can be life threatening. The extra water never hurts and horses love the wet squishy cubes.
As a medical professional, I want to suggest to you Dusty to before withdrawing any injectable medication that you first inject that same amount of air into the vial that you want to retrieve. The vials are vacuum packed for longevity. Example, a five cc infection then insert five cc’s of air first. Retrieval is so much easier of the meds. Cora is such a unique and beautiful buckskin and new puppy Bullet is adorable. You Dusty are a very responsible Bison Rancher. Keep Bison ranching!!!
When you're going to withdraw the med from the bottle-- inject air to equal the amount you want to draw out and it comes out a lot easier. I learned that when I had to give my son shots into his IV line. If you want to withdraw 7 cc's put 7 cc's of air into the bottle and the med will flow right into the needle.
Need to have a wish list with the darts you use. This way maybe others have a connection to be able to get them for you. We know you want to keep them all healthy and maybe others would want to help. It takes a team ❤❤
Dusty When you are going to take medication out of a bottle with a syringe draw up air in the syringe for the amount of medicine you will be taking out. Put the needle in the bottle and push the air in the syringe into the bottle. Example if you are drawing up 7 CCs pull the plunger back on the syringe to the 7 CC mark. Put the needle into the top of the medication bottle and push the plunger to put the air in the syringe into the bottle.
Just a little advice for new wiener dog, get health insurance. They are notorious for needing back surgery due to disk disease. Don’t let them jump off bed or couch, get a step for them.
Dusty and all his kids. Good on ya for lookin' after 'em the way you do. Congrats on the new little shaver, Bullet. He'll keep Brookes well entertained at home.
Hey Dusty to make drawing medicine easy out of a vile. Draw the needle back to 7 cc before you inserted into the vile slowly press the plunger in once needle is in vile and then draw the medicine to 7 cc.
Just a hint to make it easier to get your doses out of the multi-dose bottle. If you need 7 ccs, put 7 ccs of air in the bottle first. The air displaces the liquid and makes it easier to draw. Otherwise, you're fighting with the syringe.
Dusty we have 2 vet techs and a vet in the family in 3 different states and I ask about darts. They use them once in a while, but would need your gun make and model and size of dart before they could see if their supplier has them.
Love to see you both taking care of the Buff's together!!! I see that Marissa has been talking to or went to see CJ and their new baby & now you have a new cutie!! Brooks is really growing and looking more like her momma all the time❣️❣️❣️. Dusty you have the dream & God's Blessings with you!!! All Best with getting those females well!
Doxies are the best ….but they like their snoozes … you should check into a sleep sack for him . They love to burrow and the sacks are like a snuggle in a bag, they’re available through several places
Bullet is a cutie. I just lost my Dachshund a couple weeks ago. First time I have been without a dog in 40 years. Looking for a pup this time as my last two were rescues.
Get Cora a friend. Horses, like bison are herd animals. Perhaps 2x donkeys as guardians to protect against coyotes and other preditors and company for Cora.
Bullet is a cutie! Looks like puppy training is progressing. I appreciate your care to detail for the herd. You and Marisa make a good team and the herd shows it. ❤
That was perfect placement Dusty, you want the needle right in the meaty triangle, so you don't hit a bone and have it fall off before the dart finishes
Hey Marisa as a Nebraska Girl did you see the Pioneer Park in Lincoln just added 9 Bison to their 668 park? Have you ever been to Pioneer Park? My husband and I were born in Geneva, NE 25 south of York on 81
I love that all the animals are visiting each other: chickens, horse, cat, dog. Just hanging out together. 😊 And again, I find myself batting my eyelashes at Big Joe.😅
Dusty have you tried an online Vet Supply to find those darts. No they would take a minute to get there but you would have them. There is also an Organization called FBN that is for farmers and ranchers and they have an online med area that you can order from. Don't know if they carry them or not, but it might be worth a look.
🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸 I so love to see you ALL together making decisions working together raising Brooks to know/love /respect the Bison and enrich your lives with the diversity of animals. ❤️🇺🇸 they are SO important to our lives blessing 🌹🙏🏼
3 days max in paddock, 21 day minimum rest/recovery for leaves and roots to regrow and to break the paracite cycle and avoid the need of wormer. Wormers kill worms in your soil as well as dung beetles. Dung beetles decompose dung and incorporate it into the soil. Worms aerate the soil allowing better water infitration and root penetration. Worms and dung beetles will create healthier soil and grow better forages for the herd.
The Midwest and Plains have had a horrible time with parasites due to the drought. The animals are eating the grass down further than usual and parasites live on the lower 25% of the grasses as well as in the soil so they are ingesting more of them regardless of where they are.
@@coleengogerty3852 that is why proper grazing management and culling strategies must be employed. If the pre-ranching herd was stressed by drought, more ruminants would have been culled by predators. Biomimicry is best for a healthy herd. Chemicals are artificial props that allow the weaker animals to propogate. Allowing the weak to propogate creates an even weaker herd.
Puppy is very cute. We adopted a yorkie who came from a hoarding situation we had his teeth did yesterday lost 15 teeth due to lack of care Next is getting nails in shape have a great week
You need a long set of pinchers so you can pull up in your truck close to the side of the buffalo and pull the dart out. 😂 Kinda like those things you use to reach things on a high shelf. 🤷🏻♀️
Hi Dusty, I just watched you dart some Bison with.dewormer and wanted to share a tip with you as I am a Nurse. Before you draw up the actual medication in the syringe, pull up that much cc of air in syringe and inject it in vial and then turn vial up and pull out the cc amt of medication. You will find it easier to pull out med. You will find, it pulls out in one pull.. We do that on all vials we draw up from . Love your Channel ❤
Good afternoon; I wanted to mention to prep your syringe with air (with the cap on) with the amount if air to match the amount you plan to withdraw from the med bottle.that way your draw will flow easily into the syringe. Just inject the bottke with air before you try to withdraw your meds/fluids. Then there is no suction.
Dusty, it will be easier to draw out the liquid into a syringe if you push in the amount of air in cc's into your bottle of medication first. For instance, if you want to draw out 7 cc's into your syringe, infuse 7 cc's of air first. Your fill will be much easier. When you try it, you'll like it!
Love the Dachshund! Best little dogs ever! Brooks will have a great friend for years!🐾💜 Oh Cora,Jackie, and Charlie!🥰 Why is there a shortage on Darts? 🤔 Cute "Gatekeeper", and Dart coordinator!😊,Dusty you have a Great Partner in Marisa!🙏💜🌸 Hey Brooks 😍🌸 Take #3 🤣 Hope the meds work!🙏🦬💜 Hey Dusty, was that Hoss laying in the hay? I'm trying to recognize some of the Bison 🤦♀️😊🦬💜 Animals absolutely do know when they need help, 138😊 Looks pretty muddy, you must have gotten some good rain, hopefully the ponds are looking good around the Ponderosa! Great video Dusty and Marisa! 🙏🦬💜🥰🌸🐾
🐴 what a cute addition to the family, Bullit is adorable. I found out that there is a bison ranch here in Nebraska. Plus, Lincoln got some new bison out at Pioneers Park. Great too see you all.
Inject air (the amount of medication you need) into the bottle then draw it up. It will keep the plunger from pulling back up making it easier and likely more accurate cause ure not fighting againt the pull
Another good video. Cute little puppy. People making comments about gambling as a sponsor. Any of you have any idea how much it costs to raise, feed bison or any livestock to be making negative comments? Cost of everything in this country is terrible. I praise Dusy and Marissa for the great care they give their animals.
Both them shot were bang on right place being you giving a med the go under the hide your needle should be 3/4" lone with 2 side holes for med to come out. Not needles with hole in the end. That would be intermuscular you want it subq
Good on ya 👍 Part of having animals whether large herds or just 1 is good "husbandry" or management and you have that dialed in 😊 Big Joe: hey where's my cubes 🤣🤣
I LOVE ❤❤ Bullet I had a little short hair red Dachshund , he was so loveable as so sweet he slept under the covers with my husband ❤❤ He lived to be 15 yrs old and pass away in his sleep . 😢
I’m curious what did bison in the wild do about parasites? If their worm load became too much, did they succumb to it or was there something in their diet that controlled it?
That puppy is adorable. I have been thinking about getting a long haired Dachshund . I would love to have a Merle, Dapple, etc. They are all really cute.
Just asking a question about the darts that you need,,,,,,did you talk to the manager about ordering the type and amount of darts for you rather than to just await and see if they come in? Perhaps you did,,,,,yet just asking anyway.
Oh, shucks. We farmed for years and had days like that. Equipment, locate meds in another county, find those needing injections, new puppy, kids schedules. What happened to lunch? Hang in there. 🥰 Hang in there. You’re
When/why did youll get puppy bullet? Big Joe was very casual as you in his space and checking on his girl assuring her this crazy 2leg thing does take care of us 😊 why are the darts in short supply?
It looked like you were struggling to withdraw the meds from their bottles. To avoid that , inject the the same amount of air into the bottle before trying to withdraw the meds. In this case, it would be 7 cc air in, 7cc of liquid out. So much easier. From experience
A fecal sample of different piles may help in finding out exactly what your dealing with plus when you handle them that’s when you do all medical treatment at once you vaccinate ; deworm ; pour for lice etc; body check , weight eyes, ears hooves : it would save you time and grief , and stock up on all supplies for god sake ,
... from far away that your the best for the herd ... was great to see Big Joe too...Darts are tough to find right now ? hope the shortage is over soon for both you and the Bison...
If you are going to give Cora solid cubes I would suggest soaking them in some hot water first. Horses can eat very quickly, get the dry cubes stuck and choke. Which can be life threatening. The extra water never hurts and horses love the wet squishy cubes.
I soak the large cubes for both my horses. I don't want an accidental choking ussue.
As a diabetic of 20+ years, I can confirm this!
You do not want to inject air into those babies. It'll kill them it causes embolism..look it up on web🫤
You are correct. The bottle builds up a suction with each dose you take out and the air equalizes the pressure. I'm a retired nurse.
Do this only on the first entry into the vial. After that, if you inject air into the vial the solution will come out of the first hole.
Need to have a wish list with the darts you use. This way maybe others have a connection to be able to get them for you. We know you want to keep them all healthy and maybe others would want to help. It takes a team ❤❤
I agree and was going to say the same thing!
Just put a link to a wish list them everyone can chip in.
I did some googling, theres supply chain issues, a wish list won’t work because its sold out everywhere.
Brooks sure looks like her momma. Sweet family.
I see Aunty DeJay…😁
I have 2 miniature dachshunds! 1 male who is chocolate and white dapple, and 1 female who is black and brown. "Bullet, the weiner dog" is adorable!! ❤
My BFF had a minature red long-haired Doxie. She looked like a minature, short-legged Irish Setter!
Bullet is friggin adorable!💗🐾💗🐾💗

Ouch, that hurt!
Meanwhile, Big Joe wondering what's going on...
Just a little advice for new wiener dog, get health insurance. They are notorious for needing back surgery due to disk disease. Don’t let them jump off bed or couch, get a step for them.
Pup is so sweet, great dogs. I have a red sable long hair Weiner, and a 15 year old black and tan female. Lots of company.
Excellent method! 👍
Yes…that’s how we teach it!
In other words, inject one dose of air before withdrawing the medicine.
That's the medical way to do it. Works great !!
Always required when using multi-dose vials.
Bullet is so cute! I had a red long haired dachsund and I sure would love another!!!
Adorable puppy❤️⭐️
There is always something to do on a farm. Missed seeing a new video on Sunday. Glad you posted today.
Just a hint to make it easier to get your doses out of the multi-dose bottle. If you need 7 ccs, put 7 ccs of air in the bottle first. The air displaces the liquid and makes it easier to draw. Otherwise, you're fighting with the syringe.

Thanks for taking care of your bison. Cute puppy and of course Brooke.

Have you searched around?
