That would be awesome also as a FMQ ruler foot. . If it was thick enough! Also what if I cut a long strip of butcher wax paper. Folded it in half. . Keep doubling...then cut with template..then press it on and cut out!!. .be so very handy!
Great ruler. I approach scalloped borders a little differently. I quilt my entire quilt first. I stabilize my borders with in the ditch quilting. I make my scallop templates out of freezer paper. I then line them up like you did. I iron them down. With the sewing machine I stay stitch and follow the line of the freezer paper. This way I get a perfect scallop and my quilt edge is stitched. I remove the freezer paper. Finish quilting the borders. Then I cut a quarter inch past the stay stitch line. And finish off with bias binding. *The only part I don't like is making bias binding. I can do it, I just don't like it But it's part of the process to get pretty scalloped borders. 😊
Thank you for demonstrating your new Template. Gorgeous Quilt! I've been searching for an easy way to correctly do scalloped borders. Ah ha just found it!!! Thank you, Krista!
I love new “ruler”. Lol, that ending was hilarious!!!! I feel your pain. Every time I walk outside or get out of the car here in Alabama my glasses fog up in the heat and humidity, not fun when you are having hot flashes on top of that. 😳 thanks for all your inspiration and information.
Thanks Krista, for taking the time to design this fantastic ruler for us. I also appreciate the demonstration. Great instructions. You are the best! I will order ASAP! I can do this😁
I just ordered the ruler. I’ve wanted to do scallops (waves? What’s the difference??) on a quilt for some time but just put it off. This will make it much neater and easier. Thanks for your great videos. You do a super job of explaining clearly, and not rushing through.
Love your videos and templates! Enjoy watching you cut fabric with such ease and hope someday I will be as confident in my cutting as you are. Keep up the great work and if you put together a kit, let us know. Thanks.
I love this tutorial! I have always loved the scalloped border but was intimated in the process. You have made this so easy! It just makes sense! Thank you!
Thank you so much Carol!! I usually bring everything if it's a driving trip and I just pack my car... But I can bring a few things when I fly, or we can ship stuff too!
Wow! It’s just fantastic! Thanks a lot for the great tutorial, it’s very helpful. You explain really well and the camera job is excellent! And your design of this ruler is great! 🌺🌸
Ma’am, After arranging the papers for the first side you decide to work on, scotch tape them in position so you can use them exactly as you arranged them on the opposite side. You just need to turn the taped-together papers upside down for the opposite side. If you did left and right, use the same idea to do the up and down sides. It will go much faster doing the work of arranging and positioning those papers only 2 times instead of 4 times.
Love the tutorial and the panel is adorable! Can you share where the panel is found? Thank you so much for another wonderfully explanation of your 📏! Love all of them!!!
Great job Krista, and looks like a great product. I have been quilting for a long time and always hesitated doing a scalloped border, but you make it look soooo easy. Thank you! Looking for more inspiring videos....PS, what is the pattern for the quilt behind you?
Thank you Susan! That is my Vintage Windmill quilt pattern! I just added a border to it to cut into the scallop. www.kristamoser.com/product-page/vintage-windmill-1
Thanks, Krista for sharing with us how to use your amazing ruler! I'm going to get the ruler from you as soon as possible. I have a question. Where did you get the beautiful panel you used in your tutorial. I know exactly who I would gift that quilt to for sure. Thanks again, Hugs and blessings, Joann
Hi Joann! That panel is called Safari So Goodie by Hello Angel, for Wilmington prints. You can find them online, I got mine at Yoder's department store and I'm sure they have quite a few!
What are “ inside points” and do you have a tutorial on them? I am making a quilt w/ scallops that has deep scallops-- applying the binding has been tortuous?
This is the first time that I have seen your video! I was s o excited to see you doing a scalloped edge. I just bought my binding fabric today to do a scalloped edge. Thank you so much, n o w I can do it with confidence. Question: what width of fabric for the binding did you use?
If you wanted to avoid having your quilting stitches coming out when you cut, could you stay stitch 1/8th in inside the cutting line before you cut? Thanks for the video!
You can do it either way. If you quilt to the edge of the batting and then trim the curves you will want to bind it right away so your stitches do not come unravelled at the edge.
Sorry, late to the party with this question lol Can you tell me why you only want to quilt up to the line? Is it because you're doing something directional/decorative, because you can make sure you tie off inside your line or neither of the above? Is there a reason you couldn't throw it on the frame, do edge to edge, and then take it off and cut out your drawn line through the quilting (if you bound it quickly, of course)? Thanks in advance!
Love! Love the animal print quilt and the color combination is beautifully striking ❤ Is that a pre- print fabric ? Where to find it Is that quilt a wall hanging or baby quilt
Love this video! I’ve always wanted to try scalloped borders and now I may be able to. Thank you. Oh and I love, love the border fabric you used and cut on. Can you tell me the name of it?
I so wish that all these templates that everyone sells weren't so expensive. Love the work it does but my wallet isn't growing money for me as I am retiring from my wonderful job of taking care of people as a CNA Certified Nurses Aid which should make good money but doesn't.
I'm sorry Doreen! The manufacturer sets the price for these and that is based on how much they are to make.... It's a little more of an expensive process because of the grip being manufactured into the template rather than being an after market add on. You could probably replicate my idea with paper and get pretty close!
I love this! I’ll be ordering one of these this week for sure. Great video tutorial. Thank you ☺️
Oh good Karen!! Thank you :)
The Bible says 'don't covet' but I covet that curve maker 😍 Ingenious
Hahaha!! That made me laugh out loud Rhonnie!
Thank you for this video- learned the importance of depth of a scallop.
Oh yes! That makes a big difference.
I love a scalloped border! This ruler makes it so easy!
Yes it does!! So much easier than the old fashion way!
Another good video very interesting, I have never done scallops, but I love the way they look, keep up the good videos
Thank you Pat! I'm glad this peaked your interest!

It's freeking magic! Thank you --- you make it perfectly clear.
I am so glad to hear that!!

You will have so much fun with this tool! I am glad you are going to give it a try :)
Waited to buy this template and eagerly waited for your demonstration of it; the wait was worth it and my anticipation satisfied. Thank you Krista!
Awesome ruler! I may actually try a scalloped boarder with this!
Thank you Krista now to use my ruler
You got this Melanie!
Well that's a fun ruler. We finally got a reprieve from the heat here today and can give our AC a break LOL.
Awesome template, I will add it to my wish list! Question, being you flip it when you cut, does it have the non slip grippers on both sides?
Thanks Krista, for taking the time to design this fantastic ruler for us. I also appreciate the demonstration. Great instructions.
You are the best! I will order ASAP!
I can do this😁
You can do this Frances!!
Oh my goodness EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY!!!
Thank you so much Debbie!
Oh my goodness! This is so cool and I can't wait to use it. :-)
I love the ruler and it’s on my shopping list. Can’t wait to try this technique.
Such a beautiful finish to a quilt! Thank you for sharing this video!
I am so glad you like it Brenda!!
Love the little blooper at the end there

Omg I LOVE this! Another template I MUST have!
:) I am so glad you love this Rhonda! It really is fun to use!
Thank you for showing us. This is a great tool I’ll be ordering this asap
Thank you so much Scout!
I love this tutorial! I have always loved the scalloped border but was intimated in the process. You have made this so easy! It just makes sense! Thank you!
I am so happy to hear that Rebecca!!
Suggestion: Tape prepinned templates to use on opposite side; template strip could also be used for duplicate-sized quilts. Great video!
She could also cut that side, then fold end to end, trace it, cut it and bind.
So cool! thanks Krista I look forward to now trying a scallop boarder, I've always stayed clear of them, but your ruler looks magic 😉
You will love how it comes out Tess!
I like this ruler but then again…I like all your rulers! I hope you bring them to your trunk show and classes you will be teaching!
Thank you so much Carol!! I usually bring everything if it's a driving trip and I just pack my car... But I can bring a few things when I fly, or we can ship stuff too!

Love this template and method ,can't wait to get to work

Thank you so much Mariette!! I am so glad it was helpful!
Am i correct in saying that this is a wavy border?
A scalloped border has sharp valleys.
No, scalloped border is just a bucket term that means curved. There are subcategories for the different styles of scallops though.
I agree, your blooper was funny!,
Awesome ruler 😃
Oh, love the ruler!
Thank you so much Stephanie!
I just bought your scallop template and I cant wait to use it!!! Thank you so much!

Great idea if you don't mind peeling the tape off for the next use!
I thought the same thing! I was worried I wouldn’t get the opposite side exactly like the other.
I love it. I also love the zoo panel-would like to get one!
@@kristamoser thank you😊
I have always wanted to try a scalloped border and you have made me brave! I bought your template. Many thanks for your great video.
Yay!!! I am so thrilled you are going to try it!

when you quilt the edge after cutting it, are you free motion quilting?
Yes, I do all my quilting free motion!
You are the best
Wow I saw this ruler and it was so confusing, wish I had seen this before, now I have to go get one.
It looks like the craziest ruler! I can see how you wouldn't know where to start with it! Haha!
Brilliant!
What are “ inside points” and do you have a tutorial on them? I am making a quilt w/ scallops that has deep scallops-- applying the binding has been tortuous?
I sure do! This one should really help ruclips.net/video/pTo4w-CpGus/видео.html
This is the first time that I have seen your video! I was s o excited to see you doing a scalloped edge. I just bought my binding fabric today to do a scalloped edge. Thank you so much, n o w I can do it with confidence.
Question: what width of fabric for the binding did you use?
I almost always do 2.25" binding... if you have a thicker quilt you might want to do 2 1/2" though.
I just found her too! I think she's a keeper 🤗
Going to follow now.
If you wanted to avoid having your quilting stitches coming out when you cut, could you stay stitch 1/8th in inside the cutting line before you cut? Thanks for the video!
I thought the exact same thing.
Do you have a video of the quilt pattern?
I like the scallops.
Vintage Windmill is the quilt behind Krista. Here's a video introducing that pattern: ruclips.net/video/Y8vYTXaApuY/видео.html
Would bias binding be needed For a narrow curve Not deep) ?
Yes, I think you'll regret it if you try to use just straight of grain binding :-/
Why do you quilt only to the curved line? Why can’t it be quilted to edge of batting?
You can do it either way. If you quilt to the edge of the batting and then trim the curves you will want to bind it right away so your stitches do not come unravelled at the edge.
What a fun video! The outtakes were hilarious 😂😂 Love the new ruler! I didn’t check the description box, but where did you get the zoo panel??
Hahaha! we laughed all day about that. Thank you so much! That panel is called Safari So Goodie by Hello Angel for Wilmington prints
How do I know how big to make the paper template. I think the paper is square. If your border is 4” your paper is 4” square. Right?
That part is in the ruler instructions that come with the ruler!
Great video and tool. You could make your own templates out of Mylar or heavy paper stock, for them it would last longer.
It's true, but it's hard to get pins through the heavier paper so I just use the flimsy stuff :)
Is the quilt behind you one of your patterns? I can't find it on your website.
It sure is! That is my Vintage Windmill pattern www.kristamoser.com/product-page/vintage-windmill
@@kristamoser thankyou

What fabrics did you use for the quilt behind you in this video? I absolutely love it with the scallop edges.
That is Anna Maria Horner's fabric. I think it's a combination of a couple of her recent collections.

Beautiful 😍 😘
Thank you so much!
What fun!!! So neat :) Didn't you have another video showing how to do these? Prior to the template? I can't seem to find it.
Yes! this video replaced that video so we took it down.
@@kristamoser Oh, ok! Thanks :)
Wow! You always have such helpful rulers and videos! 🪡🧵💖
I do have a question, did you use card stock for template's? Or regular paper? 🌹😍
Do the paper templates need to be a certain size?
They just need to be about the same size as the ruler, or at least as wide as the hill/valley sides.
Love! Love the animal print quilt and the color combination is beautifully striking ❤ Is that a pre- print fabric ? Where to find it
Is that quilt a wall hanging or baby quilt
