YES.....it is sad but idk why to me it also feels like a 'reassurance after conflict' when akitoya sings it maybe because in the end they got back together again;;__;;
And this goes with the same feeling when you realized that Suisei actually covered the song in her early days (as well as Hololive’s) back in 2019, and now that A-chan had left the agency, the song’s figurative meaning now comes into play and could also relate to the fans/other Holomem’s relations with A-chan.
okay but here me out its honestly interesting how akitoya sung this, like how it paralleled on the main story where !!!!SPOILERS!!!!! At one point in the vbs main story Toya quitted street music for a moment and like broke up with Akito for a while (until anhane brought them back together), and this is a song about separation which is like jkdhajkshgs pretty interesting how toya sung the "watashi" part too
To me, the wispy misty stuff around the other person says to me that it's like a memory or a regret, something not real but to other person it still affects them.
Just some nuance in the Japanese that might help understand. Boku is definitely masculine and watashi is definitely feminine, it's true that watashi is used gender neutrally but usually only in formal settings. Men wouldn't use watashi casually, it's very feminine sounding. Boku is already the polite-sounding masculine 1st person pronoun to use in casual speech. These things don't matter in songs though, watashi can be sung by boys and boku can be sung by girls. Sometimes both are used in a song for no reason other than lyrics. "ima kara" has the nuance of right after the current moment with no wait time in between. "kore kara" can have some time in between depending on what "kore" signifies. The "noni" part was correct in a roundabout way, but "noni" at the end of a sentence just means the sentence didn't happen and the person regrets and wishes it did.
I have very healthy amount of feelings with this song and Akitoya I swear- I really enjoy your interpretation! You explain things in a very pleasing way :D It really does give you feelings of sadness yet comfort especially with sekai ver
Omg I totally missed the fact that MDZS (Mo Dao Zu Shi) fits nicely for this song (especially because I originally didn’t know the meaning of this song). SPOILERS: This feels so fitting especially because Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian got separated from each other, and this song is about separation (WWX died during the First Siege, therefore he got separated from LWJ, but then 13 years later WWX gets reborn into Mo Xuanyu’s body). I’m a huge fan of MDZS and vocaloid, so seeing this analysis put a smile on my face, thank you Udin! ♥️✨
Woooow I love this! I have only one year back to the vocaloid fandom after getting off since 2014 haha It's so nice to find videos like this. I was studying japanese in 2021-2023 but due to economic problems I stopped. I'm happy to being able to understand lyrics and context more.
this song is so good and amazing and i cried to the kailen vers because they just sound so SAD... whenever kaito sings "donmai donmai" he sounds like he's about to cry (tbh all kailen covers slap their voices harmonize so well anyways i'm getting off topic) i just wanted to express my love for ur videos as a person who doesn't even know a modicum of japanese w/out subtitles or some form of translation i think it's so interesting how each vocaloid song has their own cool interpretations and your videos are interesting as all heck in the way u take u through the theories so thoroughly in a short amount of time........ i just love learning new things aa and i was looking at the vocaloid lyrics wiki and i noticed the part where the watashi is like "for who's sake are the things you told me? would it be bad of me to search for the answer inside of myself?" like they're leaving to try and find their own answers and then the next line is the boku themselves actually taking the watashi's question into account like "oh, actually, why do i want to enlighten you" and then the last line in that verse is "the rain falls and our love has left" which kind of reads as likemaybe the boku was kind of controlling to the watashi but by the time they realized it and regretted it it was too late AND THERE'S TH ELINE THAT GOES "my indecisive 'follow me'" which is like. a command! and also the part where the boku goes "i held my heart up to you, give it back someday, be gentle, okay?" so that hints at the boku being cautious in love so maybe the reason they were being controlling in the first place was just that they didn't want thier heart to be broken oh my god and then the part where the boku went "why do i want to be loved?" and also went "my irony is due to clarity"........... they want to be loved but they are so caught up in the fear of being hurt that they refuse to let themselves fall and then the "stay here so you don't disappear" they really wanted to love them unconditionally and that entire verse is the watashi doing their best to comfort them and also of course the "giving and recieving too much" it's giving codependency tbh this part is the one making me sad now...... who knew unhealthy relationships could hurt worse than mcd /j amd i'm so insane over this song it invokes such a deep feeling inside my gut (maybe i am just hungry though) i'm sorry if this makes no sense or if it was already a relatively widespread theory and i just 2am brain-ed my way into commonality in ur comments AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KAILEN COVER OF THIS SONG IT'S SO GOOD I NEED MORE PEOPLE TO TALK ABOUT IT WITH ME ok i hope you have a good rest of your day
i loooove the kailen ver sm because of their voice tone?? difference??? i don't know how to describe it but this song being covered by two person with a different type of voice is just...perfect!!! oh i just noticed the "follow me" part this makes it even sadder.... and i'm glad you liked my video!! tysm!!

This song is one of the best songs in this fandom. And to be honest, I’m a shipper myself. You should talk about the Ruisaka national anthem if you haven’t already~ *references KING-*
this analysis was AMAZING, you explained everything so clearly and let me see the song from a new perspective !! but now its 4am and im tearing up because of how heartbreaking it is like you said, even if you don't know the lyrics you can tell that it's a sad song, but it's so beautiful that you get addicted ! also i could totally link this to soukoku in some way if i thought hard enough thank you so much for the vid ♡
Dunno why, but first time hearing and listening to the lyrics my first thought was the love story of the Cowherd and the Weaver, or the origin story for Valentines day in Chinese culture. In the story a weaver from heaven decides to have a family with an ordinary cowherd, but she is then spirited back to the heavens. The cowherd then tries to bring her back, but he is unable to cross the milky way. But the heavens are touched by the guy's gesture of love, that once every year they send all the magpies from around the world to make a bridge so that the lovers can meet. Just something I was reminded of when watching.
o my gosh,, this is one of my favorite songs, but ive always wondered what the title meant,,, knowing what it means now, its so melancholic and beautiful that i cant help but love it even more thank you for enlightening me
AAA THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! I was wondering about the meaning of the song (and of its title) and this explains it so so well and in so much depth, thank you!!
I always want to know the meaning of vocaloid songs but translations don't capture all detail. This was so helpful. I will now lock myself in a shed and cry this is so sad lol. but also sweet
I don’t know Japanese but I am Chinese, and many Japanese kanji have the same meaning as Chinese, so I can provide an answer if you’re interested: 呼吸 is a verb, it means “to breathe.” 息 on its own acts can act as a noun and a verb. As a noun it refers to the air exhaled/inhaled while one is breathing. As a verb it means to stop/rest. Hope this was helpful :)
With Akito and Toya singingthis song and knowing the main story it's even more sad when hearing or singing this song.

and i was looking at the vocaloid lyrics wiki and i noticed the part where the watashi is like "for who's sake are the things you told me? would it be bad of me to search for the answer inside of myself?" like they're leaving to try and find their own answers and then the next line is the boku themselves actually taking the watashi's question into account like "oh, actually, why do i want to enlighten you" and then the last line in that verse is "the rain falls and our love has left" which kind of reads as likemaybe the boku was kind of controlling to the watashi but by the time they realized it and regretted it it was too late
AND THERE'S TH ELINE THAT GOES "my indecisive 'follow me'" which is like. a command! and also the part where the boku goes "i held my heart up to you, give it back someday, be gentle, okay?" so that hints at the boku being cautious in love so maybe the reason they were being controlling in the first place was just that they didn't want thier heart to be broken
oh my god and then the part where the boku went "why do i want to be loved?" and also went "my irony is due to clarity"........... they want to be loved but they are so caught up in the fear of being hurt that they refuse to let themselves fall
and then the "stay here so you don't disappear" they really wanted to love them unconditionally and that entire verse is the watashi doing their best to comfort them and also of course the "giving and recieving too much" it's giving codependency
tbh this part is the one making me sad now...... who knew unhealthy relationships could hurt worse than mcd /j
amd i'm so insane over this song it invokes such a deep feeling inside my gut (maybe i am just hungry though) i'm sorry if this makes no sense or if it was already a relatively widespread theory and i just 2am brain-ed my way into commonality in ur comments AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KAILEN COVER OF THIS SONG IT'S SO GOOD I NEED MORE PEOPLE TO TALK ABOUT IT WITH ME ok i hope you have a good rest of your day

what's the difference between 呼吸 and 息?
