Joe this thumbnail is so good. Ur low key one of the best budding artists in combat sports. I loved that logo design concept from the podcast and this is such a good graphic.
One strategy I thought was really interesting that I've seen in the old school American kickboxers from the '60s and '70s that they would just pick up the leg and move forward with the back. I've seen clips of both Benny the Jet and bill Wallace doing this. As the low kick comes in they simply lift the front leg skip with the back and counter with a hook or jab.
I don't think you take any calf damage if the toes rotate outwards sufficiently and the contact point is the upper blade of the shin. Conor was not sufficiently rotated and the impact still partially hit the soft side calf tissue. If he had rotated out another 15 degrees, Dustin would have taken almost all of the damage. The thicker upper shin always beats the smaller lower shin, and can easily break the foot if the foot hits the blade of the upper shin.
I’m not wanting to use the calf kick that much. If I do, it’s going to be going to the opponent when his legs are turned, like if he misses a kick or something. I’m not wanting to risk breaking my shin, so I just try to go for thigh kicks with the top of my foot
Love that thumbnail lol

Awesome video as always Joe. I swear to God if I hear one more person bring up calf kicks at my gym I'm gonna scream lmao.
