It's funny how a lot of Williams' art was informed by the cartoony style that Gottlieb was using when Gordon Morison was their primary artist. Bally was just starting to use Dave Christensen at that time.
Please don't slap me down for asking but how, how, how did you perform the initial cleaning so nicely Ron? (revealed @ 5:37). Not asking for you to change how you do your vids at all, just an informative reply? I understand the hyper sensitivity to prior episodes of feedback.
You put a lot of TLC into that back glass nice job! I bet someone has figured out a way to make reprints or reproductions on vinyl to adhere to glass or plexiglass??? Like a window decal???? If there is money to be made someone has figured out a way lol.
There are two issues. Art is under a copyright. The art may be owned by somebody and finding that person is a challenge (until you copy it, then they sue you). Second the demand is low. So unless you have some of the original silkcreens, it is a lot of work for not much return, especially on a machine like this that is not popular.
@@LyonsArcade - But Joe... aren't those usually original back glass pieces? With Modern technology, maybe sometime in the not too distant future you can scan a nice original and make a new digital reprint somehow (like 3D print!). Still, that is a lot of work for a game like this that is not in demand.
couldn't you thin the paints to help reduce the brush marks and apply the paint more evenly? i remember adding a few drops of acetone into some paint in a cup to do model kits and added a bit more every so often as the acetone evaporated.
Maybe you could screen print the match numbers back in?. I used to cut numbers out on paper then get the spray paint worked ok as long as there was no runs in the paint. The color then a light white screen printed on top.
hay mate good job on the restoration next time you should think about sanding down the paint with some wet and dry sand paper to get rid of the brush strokes. its a tricky process but it can be done. I hafto do the same for my 1964 bally skydiver :/ good job
@@LyonsArcade Haha same here. no I'm talking about the paint. you can sand all the high spots down so the paint layer is all the same thickness so when light shines through it you don't see dark spots. love the videos also hello from Australia
Have you thought about getting a painting easel? That way you can paint the backglass standing it up. Instead of having it lay on something to paint it. Just a suggestion.
Love these pinball videos. Any chance you could show how to align the score reels so they show up properly in the windows. I have a Williams em game and I do not want to start fiddling around with them until I know you have tried it and of course done it. Thanks.
They should line up when installed correctly. They usually have a slot on the bottom that a wire slides into and moves to one side. To remove, you slide it over and pull the reel out. Be careful cleaning the reels though. Some of the numbers rub off really easily
If you have an issue with them lining up shoot me a picture of it, usually they line right up because the bracket will only hold them in the original place if they're snapped in right. If they're all slightly off, you can slide the backglass to the left or right almost a quarter inch.
Nutin like waiting for sun to come up, sippin coffee and Ron working 😋 You said silver covers up the no light areas but What is the whitish color on top of the paint in light up areas? Or am I seeing things? A 👍 cause you did done did the vid Comment cause because I care enough ta do it. Keep them coming just not today still got a stove to finish and video to put out......why does it take 3 times longer to video and work?
The white paint layer over the colored sections that have light pass through are for color saturation and light diffusion. They do the same thing for playfield plastics
A thought, would a light wet-sanding help with the paint texture and it's effect on the light, to maybe even it out a bit. Obviously won't do nothing for your color matching.
Hi Ron, the toga guy is a messy eater if anyone asks. At the end of the day your running a business and trying to make money (time vs return) - I think people still seem to miss that point. Cheers.
Maybe there is someone nearby that is good with an airbrush that you can get to make it a little more realistic. I know that you are trying to save money while making it look good
I don't know..... She reminded more of Miss Elizabeth. Back glass looks great!, but ever think of hiring a "starving" artist throw him or her a couple of bucks and a few burgers and fries and have at it.
Looks better than it was. Good job, Ron. Thanks as always for taking us along with the video.
We appreciate you hanging out and watching with us!
It looks much better than before.Good job.
Thank you Domino 81!
great job and 10 Internet Points awarded for the Danny Kaye "The Court Jester" reference!
I’m still a little off and can’t remember what was in the flagon with the dragon
Wow, saved from certain destruction by Ron’s magic brushes! The center girl looks especially better!
Thanks David, we appreciate you hanging out with us!
The neon yellow was a good choice for the sort of pop-art stained-glass vibe that this backglass evokes.
Thanks Pcachu we think it came out pretty decent all things considered....
Joe you are doing a good job touching up the messed up paint on the back glass
Thank you Donald I appreciate that!
Amazing and I will say restoration of the glass!!!
Like watching your vids, what did you use to clean the back of the backglass?
I use a little paint brush to brush dirt off the loose parts and windex on the sturdy parts.

There’s nothing wrong with asking a question 😀
@@LyonsArcade ...but something wrong with not in any way answering a question asked? So coy Ron. So coy. :)
Unbelievable restore. Congrats for saving her.

You can buy them from some places, they're fairly expensive though.

The white paint behind the jubilee lettering is super clever

That would probably work!

@@LyonsArcade You might try it one day?
Love the Randy Travis reference. ;)
He's the man!

You do!

Imagine if every back glass came triple-thicked right out of the factory?
Some seem to hold up a lot better than others, I believe they had several ways of doing them....
Wow! That came out pretty good..
Thanks Roy, we appreciate that!

Instead of having it lay on something to paint it.

That is a way to paint on one side and be able to see the other side
And see how the work is going without having to pick it up.
On the third day of christmas Ron gave to me, a new blue bottom and some yellow knees.
On the 50th day of Christmas, Ronnie brought to me, the last video about the schematics and the chimes, please
My Royal Guard back glass is worse. Looks good Ron.
I've seen some with much more missing, it's a shame they disintegrate like this!

That glass looks good from my house. It looks like factory if I take my glass off.
Thanks Hopper, we appreciate that!

Possibly!
Much better
Thank you!
36:00, she DOES look a lot like Laura Dennis, aka " allie" "the bunny" lol
It's pretty much exact in my opinion, lol.
I can just picture Ron and Donny watching the Friday night smackdown! LOL!
You've got a lot more painting to do now! Better call Donnie... 🤔
Donnie's going to come by with his spray gun!
Get rid of the incandescents in the back box. The heat from the bulbs cooks the painted glass. LEDs will save the paint from further damage.
No thanks
Have you ever had a back glass break on ya Ron?
I’ve never had a backglass break but have broke some play field glasses

Yeah I have to balance time and quality unfortunately! Thanks for watching as always!
Had to google Allie and they do look alike
She's near the end of the video here too!
Imagine some unexperimenced guy take the Glas and Brush / Vacuum it for cleaning and after that its a clear glass window ha :D :D :D
Yeah I think another 10% would come off of it pretty easy, lol
Persian!
Looks kind of Egyptian too though...
"walk like an Egyptian"
I'm thinkin this is how they party in Alabama.
I know you had to order a back glass for a previous machine, for a glass this worn couldn't you just order another one if it's possible?
You could but it would cost $350 or so

Could be!
Definitely some Persian flavour with the curled beards
Why not just paint a tiny section let it dry see what it looks like do it again until you get the right color
do white on those faces with those cracks and we all know what it would look like

You know it!
No offence but the early to mid 70's Williams And some Bally machines were blah boring
It's a shame you can't enjoy them, the rest of us are having a lot of fun with them :)
