  • These are "Call Out's for the Charleston WV Greyhound Bus Terminal sometime in the 50s and 60s. These announcements were pre recorded on 45 rpm records.

This is awesome to hear this.
I rode the bus quiet often to Spencer where I lived.
MR McCoy was the driver such a wonederful man.
I also remember a Older Gentleman who loaded and unloaded bus cargo and baggage at Spencer, Dennis Batten Jr he later became my Uncle by Marriage. He was a super man for sure.

My dad drove out of this station in the 60s and 70s. I spent a lot of time there. I remember this voice giving the call outs. Thanks for this.

The same voice at the Greyhound bus station at Roanoke, Va. The recordings were on a jukebox only the drivers had access to.

What a find these recordings are! Thanks for sharing.
In the seventies, I frequently traveled back and forth via Greyhound bus between Broward County, Florida and the Florida Keys.
My trip included a bus change at the Miami Greyhound terminal, where most announcements were pre-recorded by this same announcer.
My bus to Broward had an ultimate destination of Los Angeles. I’ll spare you that, but the announcement of my bus to the Keys went like this:
“Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please? Your Greyhound Scenicruiser service to Key West is now boarding at gate four.
Atención. Atención, por favor. Su servicio Scenicruiser de Greyhound a Key West ahora está abordando en la salida cuatro.
Now boarding at gate four for:
Coral Gables, South Miami, Kendall, Perrine, Naranja Junction, Homestead, Florida City, Key Largo, Tavernier, Islamorada, Upper Matecumbe, Lower Matecumbe, Layton, Marathon, Bahia Honda, Big Pine Key, Summerland Key, Sugarloaf Key, Boca Chica, and Key West.
All aboard, please-and thanks for going Greyhound.
We remind you that federal regulations permit cigarette smoking only on board, and then, only in the rear of the bus. “
Then, a gruff-voiced live announcer would say:
“No smoking on buses in Dade County.”

I have several of these records. My dad drove for Greyhound out of Des Moines, from 1969 until 1990. When he passed away in 1995 all of those records became mine. Same voice on them as on these records, too!

That is awesome! I worked for Greyhound for many years and would love to have a copy of the boarding announcements in your possession and will gladly pay you for a copy or digital unload.

Let me do some searching for them. I have a pretty good idea where they might be. I'd be more than happy to do that for you after I dig them out. Stay tuned!

God, how I remember these types of announcements in the Baton Rouge depot back in the 1960s, especially for the east or westbound schedules. I distinctly remember New Orleans being pronounced as "New Or-lee-unz" with extra emphasis on "unz." Those were the days.

Just a wild shot in the dark. I was looking for the announcements on West Coast Greyhound's from Seattle to Los Angeles which we did every year in the sixties. These certainly are close. My mother worked at Greyhound so I guess we heard them more than most.

I swear that announcer HAD to be the template for the 1980s Chrysler synthesized speech voice! "Your engine oil pressure is above normal..."

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing these recordings. I used to be the Assistant Terminal Manager at the Charleston, WV terminal on Reynolds Street back in 1995. Even during my time there, we still used the same jukebox system. My favorite recording was the outbound call of Greyhound's thru coach for St. Petersburg, FL. Do you have anymore recordings to post? I would love to hear more! Thank you for sharing!
