The most stunning fugue ever written.

I've played all the Beethoven piano sonatas for years. but the last movement of this one, though I've sort of played it, have never really mastered it.

Pollini plays it just about as slow. Not painful at all. There's a whole other music in there which Gilels brings out. Wonderful.

@Ahmahzahn don't be silly - Richter plays Richter, Gilels plays Beethoven!

The first fugue of the fourth movement of Hammerklaviersonate op.106 played in 5' 49 minutes is much too slow. 144 Mälzel for a crotchet is Beethoven's prescripted speed. Please listen HJ Lim (4'46 minutes) , Laetitia Hahn (4'34 minutes) or Stephen Beus (4'31 minutes) to get the real musical experience!!

I'm using the Richter version for inspiration. . . this is definitely beautiful. . . but painfully slow at times
