I used CRC Freeze Off and had the seized valve and freed up in less than a half hour. I have installed a plexiglass window above the valve in the cover so I can see when it starts to bind. When it does I will remove the muffler and valve cover and get some more Freeze Off into the wick reservoir at the bottom of the valve shaft. I believe BMW has a wick in the area outside the muffler that supports the bottom of the valve shaft. The last time I did the Freeze Off I kept adding it even after it was free. I am confident that the Freeze Off found it's way down into the void where I believe is populated with lubricating wick. I usually have to attend to this valve once a year. I live in the northeast and the bike is a 2016 BMW R1200GSA

DON'T DO IT! Mine was totally seized too. I left it dipped in washing-up liquid (I used undiluted 'mild' green 'Fairy Liquid', to be precise) for a few days - hard carbon deposits turns to sludge, clean away the sludge, repeat, and the valve will, with a bit of coaxing, eventually, free itself. I expected the servo to be knackered, but no, it's all working a treat. (2010 R1200GS) (Dealer quoted £450 to sort it)

Interesting... before you started I had a feeling the net gain would be zero. Oh, it was worth a shot! BTW how many miles were on the Beemer? What made you think that it needed to be checked?

Hi, David, the bike had only covered 20K miles. While doing a basic service an error code came up on the GS 911 error code reader, after a quick google of the code which related to the control solenoid, I first checked the cables attached to the control solenoid, all OK, both the solenoid and cables moving freely when removed from the control flapper mechanism , I removed the stock silencer to gain access and found the valve had seized, fortunately for me the seized value was stuck open position.
