Looks awesome Derek. Something I've started doing lately is to seal the back and sides prior to staining the top, it really helps to prevent the stain soaking down at the very edge and pulling through to the binding. I just thin down some sealer and wipe it on, then I can apply a dark grain filler on the back and side and it just wipes straight off the maple edge with spirits too. That's my goto method now. Cheers Ash

Thanks for this. I was wondering where is a good place to get the Angulis dyes. And a few have asked my channel. I've told them angelius. But. I don't really know how to even spell it off hand. Lol. So having a link is Excellent !
TOTALLY ITS 1 OFF THE BEST YOU HAVE DONE! THE DIFFERING GRAIN AND PATTERNS IN THE MAPLE LOOK STUNNING IN BITS AND NOT IN OTHERS BUT WHAT YOU DID! THE YELLOW WENT ON AND IT TOTALLY CHANGED IT! THEN THE CLEAR JUST INTENSIFIED EVERYTHING! STUNNING D! WELL DONE!!!
Derek, I am doing this one on the bass, tested it tonight, love the way the red lights might Sycamore grain up, the fleck take on the yellows and oranges really good!! Wait till I put a picture of it as a Big Red Special, LOL I guess whole guitar at once, putting a hook in the strap button to hang it while it drys in my shop Bathroom, on the Right!!
That chevron grain pattern in the grain .. just below the bridge. Is Awesome. It has massive depth. But. You're an expert at staining Maple. Looks Great !
Great looking piece! From watching a PRS video, they use some sort of sealer on the area they're trying to do a natural binding on. I'll bet tape and the spray on vinyl sealer would probably do the trick. Being an experiment, I'd be happy to buy it off of you at a discount ;-)
Living north of Atlanta I sympathize with you being in the Chicago area. I am moving to Maine soon to get away from the N words. You should do something similar.
You inspired me to use angelus dye to paint a top on my custom project, look great, just red and yellow, but now I have to seal color before finish, in my country there is no sealer in spray, what else can I use? Please help
@@bigdguitars well, I was planing to put a schellac finish on this one, because it is winter and, no, nothing in spray for sealer ..... I can only wipe a one poind cut schellac as sealer with a cotton rag, but I don' t know if it affect this burst effect I have made.... maybe will affect discoliring ....

That’s one of the nicest stains I’ve seen you do, not really complex but with such a dramatic end result. Very very nice 👍
thanks!

Until you sanded it back, I really wasn't sold on the color. But then, damn, dude. Maple with orange/yellow is nuts.

I’m wondering why you didn’t put the yellow before you applied the orange?
I wanted orange base
That and the nuclear burst are my favorites

@@bigdguitars cool, thank you!
Minwax wood conditioner used first will stop blotches. I know it's for softer wood but it stops blotches on maple. Just saying.
Hey Big D could you tell me what brand of sandpaper you're talking about that sands without clogging?

do you steel wool in between sanding sealer coats?

It's crazy how easy you make this look, and I know it's just...not.
