Tom, tested your windsurfer antenna and on test without I got weak signal at 970.72M On test with I got up to 1301.49M and still got no weak signal message. I brought her back as wind direction switched on me. It definitely works. looking forward to a next no wind day to push it to the limit... over the North Atlantic Ocean.
Holy Crap! I took my P2V out the other day with my new fancy schmancy paper & foil range extender - and it worked! I've been having distance issues lately where I couldn't get out beyond 400 or so feet. I slapped this baby on and got out 950 feet. To be fair, I didn't have a second battery charged up so I could try it sans extender but that will be my next test. So far, I'm Impressed!
Thank you Tom for this tip! One of the best tips ever! I could at least double the range, in distance and altitude with the antenna. In a safe location i could reach 1,1km distance and 500m high. If you dont mind I could show my 2 test flights link.

Furthest flight before was 1008 meters and started losing signal a bit at this distance. With the wind surfer, I just flew 1751 meters, so over a mile. I did lose signal however, but it came back on within 5 seconds. I decided to bring it back home at that point and it went on and off until about 1500 meters.
It is now the Wi-Fi boost antenna add-on in my mother-in-law’s house. Showing off my wisdom really impressed her and which also covering up my lack of ability to make more money for her daughter.

The first Range Extender I put together was a little tough getting the six Tabs to stay in place before taping them down. I left about 1/8 of an Inch more on the Tabs on the second Extender and found it a lot easier to get them to stay in place when attaching them, and they stayed in place much easier when taping them in place. I'm finding your Tips very useful, keep up the great work.
Concept of a reflector is fine, but actual spacing and radiation pattern will rely a lot on the quality of your construction. Note that getting gain in one direction means that you may lose signal in others. So caveat emptor and check before you try extremes of range.
i made this wind surfer and i worked great. it added 200 meters to my range. now im going to make them just a bit bigger. thanks for this video. it worked for my holy stone 700d drone.
Tom why don't you just put the PDF file of the windsurfer instead of going to the hustle of installing the tool bar and all that crap. I know NOTHING IS FOR FREE ANYMORE.....
Hi Tom, Just wondering why you didn't cover the center piece also in aluminum foil so the whole piece facing out was aluminum? Would have thought it would work better. Maybe you just wanted to have Tom's Tech Time written on it ;-) Cheers

questions, my Drone has a wifi range for the cellphone wifi but the remote is a difference frequency, i want to extend the wifi part, how can i do that? the wifi antena is on the drone..

My only thought on this is - make the six little tabs about twice as long so you can avoid some of the "slip out hassle".

So does this work by reflecting the signal the antenas send backwards forwards? If so, does it reduce range when the drone isn't in front of you?
