As an owner I have to say some things. This is a beautiful car FWD and you can mostly find it with a 4AFE (with is the economical engine). There is little to no body kits market for this car plus if you want to change the engine to a 4AGE or 3SGTE you are looking at a 2-4k swap for a stock engine. Also if you want to convert it in AWD (which is possible) it's difficult for even shops to do it and it's not really recommended. That's it all in all I LOVE IT
Oh my, my first car as a young man, I bought my 1990 Celica for 5000$ back in 2002, it was such a nice car for lil' 20 years old me, put on 100 000 KM in 4 years, I really loved it, I actually would like to own another one again.
Have this same car but the GT version here in Argentina, also 5SFE 2.2liters. Just a tip, you have to use your thumb for the power window switches, they are the best in my opinion. Great review!
Got myself a 97 Celica st 1.8 Limited Edition 5spd manual with 227k miles for the last 10 years and it's been my pride and joy , best car i ever had , if Toyota could bring it back without GDI'S and the CVT'S , would be a global success.
Ahhh my first sports car! I was 23 and I was obsessed with getting this car & I did! Loved it! Only thing that was frustrating was well as much as I loved the pop up headlights, they would get stuck! Not sure how but they did..so I manually popped them up myself haha I had the same red one as you drove in this video..Brings back all kinds of memories of good times! Life was so simple then(I just didn’t know it lol) Great video! My next dream sports car that I bought(new) was the all wheel drive eclipse 96 or 97 I think, the one with the big awesome looking wing not the crap they put out after… God I loved that car! Keep up the awesome videos! ❤️
Holy crap, you reviewed my first car: Olds Cutlass convertible, mine was a black 92 and now you are reviewing my second car 5th gen Celica! Mine was a red 92 gt-s manual btw. Such a great car. I currently am the owner of a 94 Supra Turbo 6 speed that I've owned since 1998. I'm subscribed now! Great job.
Those adjustable bolsters are wonderful, I had the same thing in my 4th generation Celica ST notchback Coupé that I swapped into it from a wrecked GT-Four/Alltrac that I got years ago. They hold you nice and tight, they adjust wonderfully quick, and makes a arseload of difference compared to the normal celica seats.
Scotty Kilmer would approve, though he'd probably prefer a 1994 Celica. John Davis from Motorweek would still not be happy. This Celica has a volt gage but no oil pressure gage.
Very cool video, I recently picked up a 91 Celica GT, it is the hatch model too. The shift knob is different in mine, i'm pretty sure it is OEM and it does feel very nice.
My first car was a black 1991 Celica convertible. With all the extra weight they added to keep the body stable, it was very slow on the takeoff. Nevertheless, I absolutely adored that car and still regret selling it. Thanks for making this video. It was fun to reminisce.
So glad I get to own one of these! I love it! Drives better than my 2018 Mazda 3! I really want to repaint and body repair it, engine wise it’s pretty sound. It has some weird wiring done by previous owners so I’m gonna take it to Toyota dealer to have them quote how much it’d be to bring it back to stock
My second car was a 1992 Celica GT hatchback in Medium Turquoise Metallic. My grandfather bought it around 1994 because he wanted something sporty to drive. It had the 5S-FE with an automatic. He sold it to me when they moved from Minneapolis to Florida in 2000, and I kept it until I became a father and needed a vehicle that could actually fit a child car seat in the back. It's still in the family, though! I sold it to my great aunt, who later sold it to my uncle, who's still driving it today. It's probably got not quite 150,000 miles on it now -- I took a photo a few years ago when it had 123,456 on the odometer. If I had the money, garage space, and time, I'd buy it from my uncle and restore it like this owner did.
I'm about to pic up my first Celica here probably next week, I'm hoping I got some crazy stuff, that I'm already planning for this car 1990 red celica 150k miles 1 owner and never driven hard, my dads friend is the only owner. I word at a body shop finally, so some work will be done to this car and boy I'm excited, Second manual car ever. At 31. Lets go.
I live in the UK so we got the 3SGE engine 160bhp GTI version. It drives like an old ladies car until you drop it down a gear and floor the peddle. 😂. Holds the road with confidence. Love it.
I had a bright red 1990 Celica ST. Paid 14k. Best car I ever owned. the radiator developed leaks and because the air conditioning requirements had changed, the entire cooling system would have to be retrofitted. My husband made me junk it and I never forgave him.
When I was 19 I bought a black 92 ST that the previous owner did an engine swap with this. Apparently because the ST was so much lighter. Scary fast. The engine sounded like it was in the Cabin with you. I absolutely destroyed the engine because I was a stupid kid and blew all the seals. And I was too broke to fix it. As an older man I can’t believe what an idiot i was because I’d kill to drive it again. Pop-up headlights were my favorite part. That shifter knob would come loose so easily.
@@Deschain-um7jz lucky you! Back in 2000 I almost bought one for 1700. Stick and leather. I didn't buy it because I couldn't deal with the color. It was like a Easter m&m green. Decided to get a 79 firebird instead. Wrong choice lol.
Youll have to review mine next! It's a 92 Celica ST coupe in the same red, currently swapping in a cammed 4age Silvertop with a c60 6spd! I'll email you when it's ready for a review
I have nearly the same car, year/color/condition but in alltrac form, would love to see how ud think it would compare to the gts. Its almost 100% stock but i have a few small tasteful mods planned.
I got one like this, left handed. Also with 5s fe engine, but it was coupe, not liftback. You know, with trunk. Very rare bird, especially in Russia. Now lookin for a gt four(alltrack), st185.
I have the exact car 1990 unfortunately automatic version but still all out the auto is still amazing and very fun car. Yes it is fun the rev it up and listen to it my block knows when I come home
Those cup holders are okay if it has an automatic transmission. With a manual, I keep punching my drink and it gets all over the place. So I got those cup holders that stay in between the seat and center console.
Poor 7th gen gets hated on. I’ve owned many Celicas, my first car being an 86 ST, I’ve had every trim of 4th & 5th gen (including All-Tracs), one 6th gen (my least favorite) and 2 7th gens (both 6-speed GT-S). The 2zzge is more fun to rev out than the 5s-fe. The 7th gen is lighter and handles better than the 5th gen. But yeah, looks wise, 7th isn’t the best (or worst) and the interior isn’t great. But they’re still fun/good cars. 4th gen is my favorite though. Hope to eventually own a 1st and/or 3rd gen…maybe a 2nd too. 😂
since the whole point of a celica was to make a cheaper sporty car off a common chassis, and since we have the camry as a hydrogen car, i think it would be cool to do a sports car based off the camry hydrogen chassis and badge it as a celica.
Hey bro. I had an automatic one years ago and want to buy another. It’s a 5 speed. Are they really that much better in manual. Just a little concerned cause i do a lot of long distance driving and never drove a manual before.
I really love the 91 with those lights unfortunately I could only afford the 91 Tercel my first car I owned was bright red unfortunately after 8 years the paint faded to a milky white:) got 129k miles though:)
Funny how you say the solara you drove is slow and you don’t like the shifter but in the Celica, it’s plenty of power and shifts nicely even though they have the same power train lol. Does 1000 pounds make that much of a difference? Probably does honestly. Always wanted a Celica with my solaras engine. What exhaust is on this car, it sounds sick
I feel like the 5s was kind of a weird engine to pair with the celica. Its a good relaible engine dont get me wrong, but its just not that impressive in a sports car, maybe if it had differnt tuning on it or a more free flowing factory intake and exhaust than the camry it might work but idk how i feel about a regular camry motor in a sports car
I don’t think Toyota will ever make the Celica again. The FWD coupe segment is pretty much dead, at least in North America. Technically the tC was the spiritual successor until 2016 but the Camry engine in it wasn’t exactly rev happy or very tunable.
I have owned mine since 1991 brand new, still love it to this day. Still in close to mint condition for 31 years old. Here it is: ruclips.net/video/PuxH5btfFXg/видео.html
